Right-o, Gill your challenge if you choose to accept it it to get Tim to laugh audibly loud to one of your jokes in the course of the next 1,000,000 downloads. Personal request of a video of some of your podcast production. A double on trail recording when you are walking separately. A recording of singing in a cold camp shower & some recordings of on trail meal preparation to get a sense of real outdoor vibe. Great milestone, well done. Keep putting one foot in front of the other! 🥇

When this dropped into my feed the first thing I thought was "Tim, you've gotta mention the .....". So I listened intently, until almost the very end when you did. I won't spoil the episode only adding, "Don't wear shorts!". As far as I'm concerned you covered the title topic very well. All I would say is that transport options to much of the areas are limited & you need to be rather resourceful. Give this one a listen folk, Tim & Gill give a very comprehensive rundown about Hiking in the Australian Alps. Be warned, it does get a bit stomach churning in parts.

I just can’t rate this podcast highly enough, and usually have it on repeat as it’s so relaxing to listen to. The material is well researched and put together, their knowledge about hiking is second to none, there are no screaming ads to make you jump for the volume button, I could go on and on…. But best of all is that they seem like two genuinely likeable people who simply want to share their love of hiking. THANK YOU Tim & Jill. (Oh and please consider bringing back the original opening theme in its long form, everyone loved it and we all miss it).

fantastic discussion!! Just landed here on this one, looking forward to going back and listening to more episodes, and future ones too. Im just starting out on my journey and already have a spreadsheet and track notes from my limited trips, great knowledge shared here. Vote 1: Pack the inflating bag for Gill. Added benefits less moisture, less damage to the insulation and risk of mould.

Also +1 for sitpad, I use a 3mm three quarter length (45g~) foam mat from orange-brown and it's great to protect under the inflatable mat / last resort.

I use my heavy leather boots in very wet conditions, particularly walking through soaking mud. I also find them very satisfactory walking through heavy undergrowth, especially during summer in snake season. I find if I regularly rub Dubbin into them. they are quite waterproof except of course as you said, there’s a big hole in the top! As Jill said, even the more expensive boots will deteriorate in storage, I’ve had many where the sole has cracked. In one case I had it repaired, and a new sole attached. Still have those boots from the 90s. You could also perhaps mention foot care in terms of keeping toenails short and using bandaids as that’s almost important as the choice of shoe. Also, replacing with a good quality innersoles can extend the life of a boot. Thanks for the podcast.

Good episode. I converted to trail runners some years ago and love not dragging the extra boot weight up mountains anymore. I was hoping you would address wether pack weight is a factor in footwear choice and also the gortex or no gortex trail runner decision. Perhaps that is a different topic for another day. Thanks for your work.
