Nice video! Kid is really smart!
great step by step, life saver the ebrake reset
link?
I did this job today on a Volvo s80 and should of watched a video on it first because I've always wound the pistons in at the back on every car I have worked on but winding these pistons was a pointless exercise. I took the motor off the back in the end and realised the piston just pushed back with large horse pliers, just as I did on the front calipers, never seen that before. Anyway it worked just fine and went back together with the new pads and electronic hand brake worked fine too, which was a relief. Definitely pays to do ur homework though, caught me out thinking all brake calipers are the same. Good video.
Thank you share clip
Nice to see dad working with the son or visa versa. Thanks.
Instead of taking the module off, just disconnect the plug and hook a 12v power source to it. Reverse the polarity and it will back right in. If you're hooked up wrong you'll see the piston go out further, just reverse it. I used a spare car battery with a wire clamped to each terminal. Much easier and less potential for undue damage. Then press it in with your clamp or brake tool. Great video nonetheless!
You really struggling to take the motor apart .....what you need is 9v batery and 2 wires .....apply voltage on terminals and will retract as a dream .....
Thanks for this. Saved me 400 buckurooos
You say turn counterclockwise in the video but you’re actually supposed to turn it clockwise (and I know that’s how you did it). I broke the seal trying to put the piston back in, so ended up having to go buy a new piston. The other side went alright. Also, for anybody else doing this job, when putting the electric motor on make sure you press it in so it’s flush with the motor. I ended up braking the plastic because of this. I put a little oil around the rubber ring and pressed it, as well as putting washers to hold it in place because of the broke plastic. While I do appreciate your help, you should make people aware of these things here if possible. It ended up causing a big problem for me, and looks like somebody else on here as well.
Sorry about that. Really old video. Thanks for the heads up on this. I was not able to add annotations to the video but I did add that info to the description.
@@driversgarage7964 sorry about the late reply, thanks for adding that to the description. For others who haven't done this yet, I think it'd also help them if you add *read the description* to the caption of your video so they don't miss that.
Do NOT listen to his instructions for the epb, he says spin it counter clockwise, which is absolutely wrong. Spinning it counter clockwise opens that up and explodes brake fluid and is difficult to put back on
Wish I would’ve read your comment before I did it.
He says counter clockwise but he actually goes clockwise 😂
Smart kid. He's gonna be a good mechanic someday.
Thank you and your Son 👌
No need to remove the motor. 9v battery on the terminals to rewind it. Easy. That and the torx bolts are sometimes hard to remove.
I just do my brakes on volvo xc60 2015....9v batery works like a dream......I struggle to get the big bolts out ....in rest it was OK
Hej hej... first thank you for taking time to do this, both of you. I’m hoping you have a video for the front brakes and rotors. If not is there one out there for the r design? I have the exact same model as you and I’ve got the parts. I would love a tutorial with some tips and tricks as well as the correct process. I appreciate the tools needed and he detailed full process. Great camera work Ethan.
Awesome video it's Shakey but so worth watching. It's not like most of RUclips that cuts out all the hard parts. It's one video with everything. My only problem is that after u squeezed the caliper u didn't turn that piece with the t40 back to its original position and the car gave me a "parking break not fully engaged" pop-up"
Name of song
Did you know that you could have actually removed the electronic park brake cover and turned the actuator while still attached and placed back on, then proceeded to do the rest of the job.
Thanks for video and your son is new Steven Spielberg
Hello! I am just about to start this job. How should be the handbrake before changing the pads, activated or deactivated? Do you have to reset something in the computer after changing the pads? Thanks a lot for video!
Deactivated
Lol just seen u posted ur question 3 years ago, a long time to wait for an answer eh 😂
OK, confessional time: Bless me father for I hath sinned! I broke my wife's volvo S60 😟. It's been one week since I replaced her front brakes w/o any major SNAFU's. This is my first time replacing rear brakes on a European car w/ an electric E-Brake (I've done American rear drum and disk brakes no problems) I couldn't get the piston back into the cylinder, so I searched on RUclips and found your video. When you backed off that screw I didn't hear you say which way to turn it (that's my story and I'm sticking to it!). I thought I was suppose to be loosening the screw and then all the sudden SPLOOSH!! All of the magic liquid escaped (Crap) 😩! Now I'll have to replace the rear cylinder! Dammit!! 😔
I searched on RUclips and found a video about reassembling the caliper. Basically, I pulled the dust boot down around the piston (almost to the bottom) then was able to get the lip of the boot back into lip of the caliper; once in, just push the piston in & bleed the system. Her car was down for a few days.
Ron Easley samething just happened to me, how did you fix it?
Link?
BlueApeMedia looks great man let me know if you can find the link to the page u bought it on ebay. Cant find it anywhere.
I dont see the link anywhere? Sorry to bother.
No need to remove motor, 12v across the motor and reverse to replace
Hello, Where to place the (+) and (-) of the battery please ?
@@alexm2075 Yes. One way moves it in, one way moves it out.
@@gregmoser2086 To risky! If you use the wrong polarity piston will pop out and a 30' job will become an entire afternoon :-/
@@alexm2075 The EPB motor's plastic harness receptical is round on one end, and square on the other. Using alligator-clip wires, connect (+) to round-end contact, (-) to square-end contact. It will take ~60 sec. to spool out the piston -- it stops on its own. There is no need reverse this process when done. The first time you set the EPB, hold the flip switch down until the motor stops. Easy peasy.
Have to unplug the electrical harness to the EPB motor as the first step, to access the motor contacts where the 9-1V dc is applied
Next time put some brake pads lube, you will avoid noises and you will have longer life for your pads. Bosch pads usually comes with the lube.
Since he put new pads on a scored rotor that had metal to metal contact, it wont really matter anyway. That pig is gonna squeal like a New York taxi.
When I was resetting the electronic brake where you said turn "counterwise", well ... I turned counter(clock)wise, which would make sense with the word "counter" being in your directions. What resulted was that the brake electronic engine separated and brake fluid poured out all over my garage floor. I then went to another video and saw the fellow say turn clockwise. So what now?
He actually winding it clockwise. If you watch that tiny ring you can see it. He obviously has a digital watch so he gets confused.
Now you clean brake fluid off your floor. and then take it to the dealer
great video dealer told me it had to be reset on a computer,i am a mechanic it took me hour and half to do both sides, thanks man a1.
i think you are good father ^^
Good idea to clean everthing before installing
Johan Schröder exactly, it is kind of painfull to see you did not take chance to clean guidepins, exchange pad hardware or even grease new pads...
Hello, thank you very much for your video, please let me know what the process for the right caliper would look like, where should the electric motor be turned? thank you very much for your help. Greetings from Chile
thank you very much for your help.
Is that just a paint for the trim?
I painted all the interior parts that were grey from factory. Sorry about the 3 year old reply lol
