Joy To The World/Jesu Joy Of Man's Desiring Mashup
A good friend and wonderful player showed me the structure for Joy To The World. Hope I didn't ruin it by squeezing in the Jesu!

A bare bones representation of the basic parts of Scott Joplin's famous rag.
The Last Steam Engine Train written by John Fahey

I have a clear memory from my teenage years of hearing Leo Kottke on the Greenhouse album covering this John Fahey classic and thinking that someday I wanted to be able to play that song on my guitar.

Looking back, it's often easy to see the events that steered our course in one direction or the other. For me, one of those things was the fact that my older sister acquired a guitar and took lessons. I wasn't yet ten years old, but Kathy allowed my to bang around on her guitar and taught me a few chords. It was the 60s and folk music was all the rage. Kathy was pretty keen on Peter, Paul, and ...

Very nice, Mark. This helps put me in the mood for a peaceful Christmas. 🎄
Nice playing! Love the tone, can I ask what guitar you’re using?
Thanks for the kind words. The instrument is a Larivée L-10 CE that I've had for almost 20 years now. It came with B-Band electronics that developed a bit of a noise issue along the line. That system has since been replaced (by Evan @ Rosewood) with an L.R. Baggs Stagepro Anthem setup that includes blendable under-saddle and soundboard pickups.
Oh damn that sounds great on a ukulele
Thanks. When I first started putting this together I was thinking, oh, wow... this actually works!
That's now my favorite version of that great song.
Nicest compliment I've had in a long time. Thanks, Bruce!
sublime!
Thank you!
Amazing cover love this song this version is amazing 🤩
Thank you! I love playing this on guitar and when I started thinking about it on ukulele I was pleasantly surprised at how elegantly it lays on the fretboard.
@@mnkrice Even if it's a passing relationship that I've never seen offline and don't know the name of, I'm so glad to meet you through your videos in the world of RUclips. Your videos put my mind at ease and make me happy. I'm thankful that I finally found what I was looking for. After watching your video, I feel a little at ease, feel better, and feel comforted. thank you for the good video I opened a RUclips window, whether it was a coincidence or it was due to an unknown unknown algorithm. I'm immersed in your video that shines the most in my RUclips window right now. Your video is the best video. It's a very good video that makes me feel like I saw it in a dream someday. Please upload more great videos in the future. Even if the road to RUclips is rough and windy and windy and everything in this world goes away from me, I will always keep your video in my memory. Thank you for the algorithm that made it possible to watch a good video, and I hope you succeed as much as you worked hard for your dream.
The resemblance between father and son is uncanny.
Unfortunately for Nomnomsammieboy!

Marry Christmas 🎄
Beautiful 🤩
Thank you!
Love this!!
Thank you! Found this little used ukulele a couple of months back. It needed a little TLC, but it’s been a lot of fun.
Your music is a wonderful accompaniment to the season. Thanks!
Thanks, Bruce. Merry Christmas!
You've got crazy skills. I love this!
You’re too kind!
nice job🙂
I love Scott Joplin!
Thank you Mark.

Well done.
Thank you! I really enjoyed your video of Tennessee Waltz. That’s such a great tune and you treat it with such respect.
@@mnkrice thanks much. I remember I saw Allen Shad give a tutorial on that one. He’s an awesome picker.
This is fire.
Wow! Thank you for sharing this lovely music.
You are most welcome. Thanks for listening. M
love this!!!!!!
Thank you!
Wow. Absolutely perfect. Makes miss my dad so much. He tried so hard to teach me guitar but I couldn't get the callouses built up to stay with piano.
One of the great things about music is the memories it can evoke. And hey, it's never too late! Over the years I've had several students who started when they were in their 60s.
@@mnkrice that's true. I still have dad's guitars and I did learn enough to start back up if I practice. I even took a classical guitar course in college just for the credit hours. The memories are just powerful this time of year since he passed 12-28-20.
Nice!
Thank you... and loved the travelogue!
That's so cool!!! I love it! Uve been playing piano since I was 6, majored in piano pedagogy as well as vocal performance. I never could get the callous up for guitar though I tried. As far as I got was playing the Harp.
This was wonderful. I admire the talent so much.
As a pianist, I'm amazed. So much classical detail. You've got yourself a fan!
Wow... a compliment from a piano player kind of makes your day. Thank you!
Is there a tab of this adaptation by chance? Sounds amazing. Thanks for sharing!
I’ve not yet written a tab for this, but here’s a link to the video that was a great place to start. You’ll notice I made some changes from this version, like adapting it to dropped D tuning and a few other things to take advantage of the acoustic vs electric guitar. I also changed the approach to the final section to make it easier to accomplish! ruclips.net/video/VUZSGBe1wgY/видео.html
Thank you Reddit for sending me over! Wonderful!
🤗😮🎵 wow 👍 this is so beautiful and it's your daddy 😍❤🎵🥁
Your guitar has a beautiful tone. Also, fantastic rendition!!!!! Keep them coming :D
Is this in regular tuning?
Good ear! I decided to put this in Dm and use dropped-D tuning. This guitar has a lot of bass sustain when plugged in, so it lets that open low D string ring and support what’s happening with the melody line.
Awesome
Thank you!
You sir are a treasure that the world doesn’t deserve
You're too kind. If everyone tried to create a little beauty each day...
hey Old Guy! sounds great! I wish you would record a slightly louder version of this. Subscribed. Keep it up!
You’re so correct. Most of these videos were made using just an iPhone and the internal mic. As you note, volume is an issue. Recently, however, I picked up a little Blackstar 30 watt acoustic amp with a livestream connection that allows me to take the signal straight from the amp into the phone. There’s a LITTLE bit of noise in the signal, but the resulting increase in volume is worth it. That’s how I recorded the Dance Of The Sugar Plum Fairy video a couple of days ago and I think it’s a lot better.
Such a beautiful version of this song!
Thank you. Vince Guaraldi's original tune and pretty short and to the point, but there's lots of room for improvising!
Beautifully played, Mark! Very dreamy!
Beautiful! Well done, Mark!
Faster! ... FASTER!!! :-)
Yeah… I have a problem with that!
Very nice
Just beautiful! Just subscribed. 😊🎸
Thanks! I need to get some more material posted.
Very well done! Beautiful!
Thank you!
Sounds great, perhaps the Uke would have been favoured by George also. Do you have the picking pattern, I have the chords?
Here Comes The Sun lays so elegantly on the uke fretboard that I'm convinced George wrote it on his ukulele! Approaching Gently Weeps as a melodic exercise, I don't really use a specific pattern.
It’s very calm and relaxing, love it! :)
Thanks!
It's always been easier for me to arrange a piece of music by listening to it rather than start with sheet music. In this case, I'd been listening to the song and thinking about it a couple of days, then I had a dream about how to play it. Woke up, got out of bed and grabbed a guitar, and in about 15 minutes had it mostly worked out. Wish is was always that easy.
Very good music😌
Thanks for the listen!
Lovely!
Stop playing with yourself! (Sorry, too easy.) Love this!
Hey... if I'm gonna lob 'em right over the plate, swing for the fences!
You've got a great gift! Thanks for sharing.
nice melodies uncle you look content and happy cheers!!
this was so mesmerizing... definitely needed this <3 even tho i don't celebrate, merry christmas to you.
Thank you. Thinking it's time to post a Leo Kottke tune or two.
