Three phase plugs have multiple color codes and configurations, as there are 3 phases , 1 neutral and one ground. these plugs have 5 wires. the color code is Phase lines: "Black, Red, Bue" Neutral: "White" Ground: "Green. And thats in the US and canada. In three-phase power, the voltage on each wire is 120 degrees phase shifted relative to each of the other wires. Because it is an AC system, it allows the voltages to be easily stepped up using transformers to high voltage for transmission and back down for distribution, giving high efficiency. As compared to a single-phase AC power supply that uses two current-carrying conductors (phase and neutral), a three-phase supply with no neutral and the same phase-to-ground voltage and current capacity per phase can transmit three times as much power using just 1.5 times as many wires (i.e., three instead of two). Thus, the ratio of capacity to conductor material is doubled.
