Story & Art time: The Tell-Tale Heart
It's time for some chills! Yes, August is over, but it's still just as hot (at least here), so a little chill down your spine might feel good...
Or - just think of it as a very early Halloween video 😇🎃
If you're new to my August Chills videos - welcome! This is my take of a Japanese tradition of telling ghost stories in the summer to cool down. I choose ghost/horror stories and make some art inspired by them. The videos share the story and the making process.
This year I ended up only doing one story, because it inspire 3 collage works - whoops? lol. I took up a true classic: Edgar Allan Poe's The Tell-Tale Heart, first published in 1843. I love this story, it's beautifully written and uns...

I am making the Village and this helps😊😊
Absolutely love this ❤. What did you use on the room?
Very beautiful where do you get the box for the moss
What products are you using?
There's no specific products for this, not really. For the covers I either print photos of old book covers that I reduced to the size I want, or just use textured paper. For the inside pages I like brown paper because I want a vintage look, and often use strips I cut from paper bags. For the glue I think it's best to just use the brand you like and are used to. I know it's not a very specific answer, but hope it's somehow helpful :)
I've seen all the seven parts. Your work is absolutely gorgeous and, as a beginner and a Tim-Holtz-house-building fan, I found these videos very useful. I hope you will post again on this subject. Thank you
check this printer WorkForce WF-7830DTWF it has 2800dpix2400dpi i think with this a huge library can be printed in little space and build magnifier lense readers, maybe reading the books in folded paper strips
during a painting class (oils), years back, the instructor came over to me and told me NEVER use fingers. I was doing some very fine detail and had my "pinky" finger on the canvas to "balance" my brush hand. I refrained from saying anything back. But really!? As a master artist (have sculpted, all mediums of paint, pen & ink, you name it, I've done or tried it). Long/short: God gave us 10 of the most wonderful, free art implements called "fingers". USE them folks!! It is amazing what a finger used in artwork CAN do. Go with your heart and not necessarily your head :) Beautiful job darlin - thank you.
LOL - exactly! I use my fingers in everything, they're the most useful tool we have! When people worry about using fingers in painting I always wonder if it's some weird remnant of times they used lead and other not-so-good-for-you materials in them... 😂 In any case, I think half the fun of mixed media is playing with different materials and textures and that definitely includes touching them! Thank you for the laugh and for stopping by, glad you liked it ❤
your welcome - we artists have to stick together and keep a good sense of humor and adventure in us :) @@PeculiarisArt
Very fabulous house. So many ideas! I’m just starting to put my houses together. Your video is inspirational. Thx!
Thanks so much! So glad you enjoyed the video, I'm sure you'll have tons of fun with these dies! ❤
Wow, your attention to detail is inspiring! I would love to see more of this type of build. Incredible!
Thanks so much! I don't make that many videos anymore (life got in the way...), but there are some more house building and miniature making projects on my channel already, and fingers crossed I'll be able to add some new videos soon! Out of curiosity, what do you find more useful, edited videos or livestreams?❤
@@PeculiarisArt I enjoy both but I do really love the fact that with the livestreams I get to see more in depth details and I really appreciate that.
Wow. Why am I just seeing this. What a fabulous project. Great tips and meticulous skills. I have subscribed.
Thank you so much!
I have all 3 sets of houses. I have made them out of paper and cardboard and added some detail. Now I want to get them out again and follow your inspiration.😊
Oh yay! I'm so glad to hear that! For me these dies are now old friends that I have fun with every time - I keep finding new ways to use them :D I hope you'll have just as much fun! ❤️
Your work is amazing!
Thank you so much!
Incredible work.
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed it ^^
i have loved this fairytale all my life. Why is no one covered it in a Fair tale analysis video don't know 💔🌹🧚♂️
I know right? It a favorite of mine since childhood, but apparently it's not very known... Hope you enjoyed this even with no analysis 🌹✨
EXCELLENT what more can one say thank you, very talented x
Thanks so much! 💜
How did you make the spine labels, please? Ty
Hi! Thanks for stopping by ^^ I printed the book covers with all their details. I just found images of old book covers and printed them in the size I wanted :)
I don’t know if you still check comments on this but -WOW! Please make more videos like this. Your work and creativity are amazing but you are also a good teacher, which is very important. Thank you for taking the time to share this incredible project.
Thank you so much! I'm so glad you liked the video. I do hope to get back to making them, my life is just a little crazy at the moment, but hopefully I'll be able to carve some time for it later this year. Thanks for stopping by and leaving such a kind comment, it made me so happy!
I won't do a thumbs down. WHAT THE HECK IS THE ALREADY MADE THING AT THE BEGINNING THAT YOU DON'T EVEN MENTION????
No need to yell. Do you mean the cover of the book? I'm not sure what more to explain, but I'm happy to answer if you have a specific question.
I'm learning so much from your series. Thank you so much
Thanks so much! I'm so glad you're enjoying it ❤
Your little furry angel sounds so cute. Can any of these be cut by hand? Love to watch ur vid 😻☺️
GREAT JOB. Thank you
Thanks so much!
Have you used mica pieces for windows? How did that work?
No, it's not mica, it's hard getting it here so I never worked with it. I use two layers: vellum and transparency glued one on top of the other :)
Hello again, this is Jim. Do you remember the item number on the package that you bought. I see that you also have three dormer windows, and the bay windows. The package that I bought was 665564.
Hi Jim, sorry for the delay, I wanted to make sure I get this right and needed to do some testing: This video is using the old village dies, most of which have been discontinued by now. The package you have (665564) is the new version, which includes all the parts in one set. It's basically the same as the original design only in thin dies and the house is a little bit smaller. The new set does have a die for the dormer windows, but unfortunately doesn't have a bay window (I guess that's because of the smaller size, the bay window die was already super delicate and probably could not be shrunk any more). But here's the good news: the old bay window die does fit with the new set! It will require a bit of adjustment to match, but definitely works. So if you want, you can try get the Village Fixer Upper die set (no. 662699), just note that the other dies in the Fixer Upper set are included in the pack you've bought. I really love the bay window, so I'll look into trying to replicate it with the selection of windows/doors available in the new package. Thanks for bringing this to my attention and hopefully this is helpful! (I know this came out super long, so if I wasn't clear do let me know).
Your mini Halloween house is a work of art. Thank you so very much for showing the details. The bay windows, did you make them from the add on.
Thanks so much! I'm so glad you enjoyed this! Yes, I did use the add on for the bay windows. If you're using the thinlits version of the dwelling series, it already includes the bay windows, but in the original Bigz sets you needed the Fixer Upper set for that extra bit :)
I have the thingies dies. But I have not seen the bay window die. I do though have the add on die. Tomorrow I will be using the add on die. Your details are impeccable. The tree is awesome, and again thank you for your detail work.
this is my favorite brick technique, thank you so much for sharing and teaching us!
Thanks so much! I'm so happy you enjoy it, I really love the results you get ^^ Thanks for stopping by!
I just watched this for the first time. I love it and love the tutorial you have given us. I will definitely keep this to watch more than once. It is super easy to understand, and I will use to make my own. Thank you so much and yes keep the tutorials coming, I follow you on Instagram and your makes are amazing!!
Thanks so much! That's so awesome to hear, I hope you'll have a ton of fun making it!
grat video thanks!
Thanks so much! Glad you liked it ^^
This project is fantastic!! I’m hooked on trying my hand to make a scene with these dies. Thank you for sharing your time and talents
Thanks so much! So glad you enjoyed it, I'm sure you'll have loads of fun making with these dies, building scenes is the best! 😁🎃
Incredible! 🖤 The three collages, the video, your reading, everything is great! 🖤
Thank you so much! So happy you enjoyed it! 😁
@@PeculiarisArt I definitely did! 😁
I really enjoyed this. BRAVO! I originally watched this without the audio then went back to see if there actually was any. EAP is one of my favorite authors having been given a complete selection of his works when I was in the third grade. I devoured it then and have gone back so many times to reread and enjoy his genius. My favorites are the poems. I can never escape the exquisite candaces.
Thank so much! I adore Poe, his works are so unique and with their own rhythms, poems and stories alike. It was a challenge doing the sound for this, but I had a lot of fun too, I'm so glad you liked it!
WHOA Naama those panels are fantastic.
Thanks so much Sue! ❤
VERY well done!
Thanks so much!
not trying to be rude and i know that english is not your 1st language even though I think your english is fantastic . just to help you out only but embossing is pronounced M - boss - ing . boss as in your boss at work lol. Im am enjoying your videos very much and thank you
lol I thought that's how I was saying it?... But yeah, I've heard it pronounced as 's' and I heard it pronounced as 'z' so maybe I just went for something weird in between? 😂 Honestly, English is pronounced so differently in the various English speaking countries that it can get confusing and I generally go with "if they understand me it's fine" 🤣🤷♀️ But thanks, always interesting to learn ^^
@@PeculiarisArt yeah you are right . hugs to you.
Hu I am watching on replau. I just love your way of showing us the detail. I have learnt so much. Thanks for sharing. x
You are so welcome! I'm so happy to hear! Hope you enjoy making your own little house ^^
your sound problems are because u have to shut your speakers off when you go live. hope this helps
Thanks but actually there was a temporary bug in my streaming app, it was all fixed soon after thankfully! :)
@@PeculiarisArt aww darn thank goodness for that . by the way your art work is mind blowing . new subbie =)
Awww thanks so much! And thanks for joining! :D
This is amazing! Thanks for the detailed video. How did you make the grass?
Thanks so much! The grass is a combination of grass for miniatures and architecture models grass (you can usually find it in art supply shops, unlike miniature grass that's usually only in specialized shops). I just got a big bag and colorize it to shades of green for interests 😁
@@PeculiarisArt cool! Thanks 👍🏻😊
Thank you!
My pleasure! Hope you have fun with it ;)
I like the video we loved
Thank you! So happy to hear 😊
Yes this was helpful! I I think I would add a graveyard 🪦
Thanks so much Gina, so glad to hear! And I did add a graveyard! Among other things😉You can see it in the part 2 video if you like ❤
I had these tim holtz dies i havent seen them since i moved ill need to look
It's hard to keep track on art supplies when moving, some always seem to end in a random box, don't they?😅 Good luck finding them soon!🍀
@@PeculiarisArt its so true i had accumulated quite alot and when we arrived at the new house there was less room due to a family member moving in with us so i hadnt unpacked my supplies. I still have boxes to get thru and i hope i still have these.
Hi Hi Naama. Thankt for your lovely canal’s 😊 I wondering in what sizes you build the little house 🤔 Maybe 1:48 ?🥰
Thank you! This mansion isn't in a specific ratio, it's somewhere between 1:48 & 1:35. Honestly I didn't think about it too much when I started and just try to build things so they fit each other visually 😉
omg awesome
Thanks so much Janine!
You are immensely talented! I absolutely love this project. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you so much! ❤❤
Fabulous tag face… loved the use of washi tape too! Fab inspiration, thank you! ❤🎨❤
Thanks so much! So glad you liked it! Yeah, I have a ridiculous stash of washi - it was about time to use some lol! 😂
Thank you, this is wonderful. About how long does it take for the texture paste and glazes to fully dry? Thanks again
Thanks so much! So glad you liked it ^^ I usually give the texture paste 20-30 minutes to dry before melting the glaze, it usually dries faster, but I'd rather be on the safe side ;)
@@PeculiarisArt Thank You! I’m going to give it a try
Howdy Peculiaris 😁Hope you are well. I've didn't remember that distress sprayer...loving its properties. Your curtains/window are fabulous. Thanks for sharing.
Naama, the windows are wonderful and those curtains are fantastic wow.
