i found myself in a similar situation....i had a urinarytract infection and ovarian cyst but going to the nearest health center i was being yelled at to bring my partner and so on coz according to them it was an sti and yet i am not even sexually active.....some public health providers can be so rude ....i had to go to a private institution and i was even told that if i had gone latter than that i was going to under go an operation for the cyst .

the problem is that we young people may be affraid to talk to some1 older than us about sex and other drug abuse because the adult will scold us profusely instead of understanding the situation.....people still believe parents and guardians can never talk to their young about such issues....but the truth is that charity begins at home

we are so focused on passing on the message of sex to young people and not other alternatives to sex. In as much as we should talk about sex, let's not make it our main focus, I think if we do not have an alternative system for people who are at least between the ages of 9 to 16, such stories and experiences will be in a continuous struggle in our Zambian community. Let's implement activities that are fun for young people to engage in and make them aspire towards something greater. Teenagehood is very risky and curious stage in life, they usually want to experiment with all they are told without a strong foundation of the consequences

Awesome discussion! As a yound person whose been through a somewhat similar path having to deal with all the peer pressure. I would say, I would have appreciated if sex, alcohol abuse and other kind of negative influence young people face today was told to me from a family setting point of view. I think we go out there with so many questions that we can not find answers to in our homes its not common in Zambia for young people to access social services offered to them because it has never been the norm. There is a need for such conversations to be had in a home where parents can not only have answers to their children's questions but also advise them to make use of social services that place for their own benefit

its sad that this is the reality of many girls in Zambia. I personally have had 3 people two female and one male open up to me on how they were contiously abused as child by someone close to them! what's even horrifying is that one girl told her Mother how her step Uncle continuously forced himself on her for 5good years but her mum would always ask her to keep the story to her self as it would break her marriage. I remember sitting there and just sheding tears with her cause there was nothing I could say or do to change her mothers mind. Rather than encouraging our female children to do without questioning, we should try create an environment where they can question the actions of all even those that are close and also teach our mothers that a person that touches your child (boy/girl) is a beast that deserves punishment and not mercy and least at the expense of public appearance!! IT IS WRONG
