I think the main reason they changed the fight song was due to it containing indirect mentions of slavery and how African Americans should be enslaved. Obviously, people started to not like it because of that so they changed it to something else. People in my family are black so they opposed Dixie.

Hearing the two songs (Dixie and Battle Hymn of the Republic), being intertwined in this song, symbolizes the unity between the North and the South. I may be a northerner, but we must put differences aside and come together as one country, one America.

I am not a southerner but I think it’s terrible that they would take away such a good version of Dixie

UPDATE: (10/12/2020) The School board has voted on a motion to change the mascot. The Motion failed 3-5 (aye-nay). We remain the rebels, We may replay the Dixie fight song again.
