How to Fish a Mepps Aglia - Tackle Tuesday #23
Hey Folks!
-
I have been using mepps inline spinners to catch trout for years, and it never really occured to me that you can use them for ANY species! This past weekend, I spent about 45 minutes tossing this little mepps aglia around and caught some smallmouth bass, rock bass, perch, sunfish, bluegill, and even a pike! These lures are so fun and simple to fish, and are great in a ton of different scenarios. Get yourself some and have them in your tackle box always!
-
Also, check out the Mepps Master Angler program! Super cool way to track your fishing experiences!

I have (2) Brutus spinning reels, A Brutus Baitcasting reel, A Royale Legend II Baitcasting reel and I absolutely love them and you can't beat the price!! I even had (2) Brutus spincast reels and they also work great. I unfortunately didn't maintain them properly so the drag froze up so, I just actually purchased another spincast reel because they are so inexpensive, they are GREAT for the novice fisherman who doesn't have a ton of money to spend, every time they need to replace gear. I have other products as well, like the line spooler, Cutthroat scissors and pliers set, tackle bag, etc., etc. Also have a variety of Kastking Tripolymer line spools from 10lb to 17lb and really do not have one bad thing to say about ANY of their products. I would love to try some of their higher end stuff but, for now, I am extremely happy with their more budget friendly items for sure!! Allows me more time on the bank with my grandson!! The Kastking products are quickly becoming my favorite! You covered the tackle boxes but I have to tell you about the reels. I stumbled on their stuff when I was looking for a tackle backpack. I was so impressed with the quality and price of it that I started buying other products just to see if it spanned the product line. To me, it does without a doubt. First reel I bought was the Sharky III. I think I got it for under $60 on Amazon (maybe under $50). Got the 3000 size. First thing I noticed out of the box was... the box. Packaging was better than almost anything I have seen. And the reel itself... it's SOLID!!!! Like no crappy plastic pieces! If doesn't flex in your hand. It's smooth. The drag is excellent. It feels like a $150 reel to me. I have been using it for about 9 months now and it's a good as the day I took it out of the box. Had it on salmon and steelhead trips all winter and now I'm using it for walleye and big hybrid stripers in the Ohio River in heavy current. I'm going to try a couple other models they have, but at the price point, I don't think you can beat it.

What's your favorite store to buy fishing gear at?

Cabela’s most of the time just because it’s convenient for me. But for bass specific gear, waypoint angler is amazing. Of course tacklewarehouse for online ordering is great too:)

I like the 5/0 or 4/0 Gamakatsu round bend off set hook.

I prefer the screwlock.I use the owner extra large scewlock with a mustad 91768 30degree jig hook (4/0)for the 3.5 and a large owner screwlock with a 1/0 for the 2.5 yamatanuki. I found out this helps hold it better without tearing out

I’ll have to try that out! Thanks for the insight!

I wasn't a fan of using the screw lock ewg's either, the screw lock cores out some of the soft plastic at the tip and if you're using mend it to fix the baits to reuse, it doesn't bond as evenly. I went back to using a regular ewg and I put a wacky ring around the tip so the tips don't rip off the hook as easily.

These are fun to throw, personally I use a #4 gammy ewg , another thing having a bottle of mend-it on the boat is a must when using these or a lot of other plastics , btw, they make a 2.5" version although I haven't tried it yet

Brother I think you need to relax. In fact, yes I was fishing in the twin cities. This was an afternoon after the work day, just went out for a few hours. Check out my other full length videos on my channel and let me know what you think!
