Recently, some Florida panthers and bobcats have been seen having difficulty coordinating their hind legs, making walking difficult. The condition is known as Feline Leukomyelopathy (FLM). The Florida Panther is one of the apex predators of the Florida Wetlands. Smart predators weigh the risk of injury before attacking. The opossum has 50 teeth, more than any other mammal. And most of them are needle sharp. And just to make sure the panther was aware of this, the opossum beared his teeth for the panther to get a good look. There are easier and less dangerous meals in the swamp.

Belted kingfishers are notoriously difficult to approach. I got very lucky one day when this female belted kingfisher all but ignored me while I sat in my van just 15 feet away. I photographed her for several days while she caught crayfish at a roadside ditch in central Florida. While I was eating my lunch, I flipped the camera over to video mode. This is what I captured.

Around June 13th, the wet season hit in earnest. The water level rose 3 feet overnight in some places. I had to wade through the swamp to retrieve a few of my cameras.
