Its cool you were focused on the song and dance so much you missed A LOT. Also you weren't prepared :P. This is the start of their 'para-social' lore videos which they has become a staple for them. This is about lonely girl 'ban heesoo' who is a fan of newjeans and as such creates a world where they are her imaginary friends... newjeans do not exist in reality in this video they are just in the camera girls head. The ending shows she was filming nothing the whole time but in her mind she thought she was filming newjeans. This story continues in side b and i will explain more if and when you watch that. It is further explored in part 3 to this which is the 'OMG' video (not the performance one but the actual story one). Just to prepare you aside from this 3 parter other videos you need to pay attention to and are full of story or lore are ETA, Cool with you side a and b and Supernatural parts 1 and 2 and also how sweet. :)

Yes OMG is a NewJeans classic😅😅 ...its a Bop😊😊

The actual genre of this is late 80s to early 90s 'New Jack Swing'. Think early janet jackson, bel biv devoe, jade, paula abdul, heavy D.... but this actually reminds me a lot of Bobby Browns 'every little step'. Something to bear in mind... when they have 2 part videos it means its going to be deep in story and lore and this is no exception.. you should check out part 2 for the full story. I would also reccomend the (un)helpful guide to newjeans 2024 version... its a fun and insightful guide that will tell you all about them. Their unique sound in kpop is the fact they dont do what 90% of Girl groups do in trap/girl crush or overly cutesy pop songs... they use 90s urban genres that are centric on 90s US RnB but also its more mature and cooler clubland derivatives both from the US and UK.. these include UK Garage, Drum and Bass, New Jack Swing, Miami Bass, Baltimore Club and Jersey Club among others as well.

They are kpop but kinda arent if that makes sense... they use 90s UK and US styles a lot of them rnb centric clubland styles... for example this fuses UK genres UK Garage with Drum and Bass and US style Jersey Club.. also all 5 speak english well with 2 of the members being aussies with english as their native language and as such you will find most of their their songs are like 50-80% english

ETA continues the para-social lore between fans and idols newjeans started in 'ditto'.... In ETA the newjeans girls don't physically exist... in short.. main girl 'Eva' is a fan who is crazy and completley paranoid.. newjeans exist in her head and she sees them through her phone and as different people (the cops, gas station workers, people in cars alongside her, passengers in her own car) but they arent really there.. they are imaginary friends to her and shes uses them to fuel her paranoia.. the 'lyrics' of the song are mostly just her own thoughts but she imagines newjeans are telling them to her (boys be always lying for example) eventually running over cheating boyfriend and placing him in the boot of her car... (i personally think he is an ex she cannot let go of which would describe her unhinged unstable behaviour) the directors cut video shows the full ending where she pushes the car off the cliff (Apple did not want that ending in the video but directors cut is out now and shows the full ending)

Newjeans are very unique in kpop you are spot on and it because of the genres they use.. their first EP was 90s RnB but then following that they went with more dance and clubland styles that are still 90s RnB centric and are also US and UK styles.. including drum and bass, baltimore club, UK Garage, Jersey club, new jack swing and Miami bass.. they are a 90s Urban throwback group.. no one else in kpop does these genres (at least not majortity and whole ep/albums of them)

NJ do not force or shout for listeners to look at them. They seems to be quietly saying, "Are you still not interested in us?" So, it may be difficult to find and listen to for the first time, but it is comfortable to listen to it repeatedly on a daily basis while doing other things.
