2nd and final test flight, at Southend (UK), of Australia's first civil jet aircraft (Apologies for the wind noise - it was gusting 22kts). Also the first 707 sold by Boeing to a foreign customer, and the first short bodied, QANTAS specific, model -138. Departed for Sydney via Dublin, Tenerife, Orlando, Los Angeles, Honolulu and Nadi 2 days later. It will eventually reside at the QANTAS FOUNDAT...

First test flight after 6 years in open store and 6 months of restoration work by a team of Australian engineers. This is the oldest flying 707 in the world. First flew March 1959.
Please post the date of flight.
i love this plane
04:21 wow! It nearly tips over
When I first joined the RAF I had the honour of working on the last remaning Belfast - known affectionately by us as 'The Slugs'. The last one was XR366 'ATLAS'. I got to fly on her a few times and i wonder how they ever got anywhere - SO SLOW. Very underpowered. I was rumoured that Shorts were preparing a JET prototype whch would have made the old girl superb! Never happened though.🙁
beautiful plane !
One of these old southend residents that actually survived is in Australia being restored to airworthy condition ready to work once again, almost complete so I'm hearing but it's now got a US registration
There’s a saying in aviation whereby an aircraft that ‘looks right’ will ‘fly right’. However, every time I see a Belfast, the horizontal stabiliser looks like it is set at a higher angle of incidence than the wing. Surely it is an illusion because having the tail stall before the wing stalls is about as undesirable as it gets. Maybe someone can enlighten me in this regard.
wonderful❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ thanks again 👍👍🙏🙏🙏
Got to see these up close a few times, when they came to ema Airport.
My Dad flew these in the RAF. He was the test pilot at Short Bros Belfast who took over the aircraft for the RAF. He conducted heat rials over Madrid.
I have photos of the last on being broken up at Southend. Such a shame, but nothing is forever.
still in dispair? waiting to be flown to Australia? or is is still here
Flown out years ago

138 b was special order for qantas
Rolls-Royce Tyne engines? Good looking airplane. I didn't know the Brits had this.
i used to see it at the bombardier plant dropping off aircraft wings for the global express. the wings were built in japan by mitsubishi
I know those aren't RR Dart engines, but they sound a bit like them.
RR Tynes
Obsolete heavy lift aircraft in the time of the C-141.
Wonderful plane
Спереди булькатый.
When Liverpool EGGP built the it's new runway 27/09 the RAF flew these aircraft in to do circuits all day. I used to watch them from my primary school.
Ukraine 🇺🇦 Antonov
Awesome 👌
That paint job is tight
I was raised in the age of propliners and never, never, ever grow tired of them.
савок это концлагерь где его сделали . весь обшарпаный краска слезла
The power of Pratt &Whitney engines .!
Let's hope Southend airport gets back to normal, and people realise that covid is just an excuse to stop travel and take peoples freedom away.
Чебурашка лучший.было что показать в СССР
I always thought the C-2 was a neat airplane, pretty cool. 😎👍 Actually it’s pretty big for a high wing twin engine comparable to the defunct DC-5 in size.
There is no more this plane😢. On takeoff, I fell into a flock of birds and crashed ...
Жаль(
Nice footage but why the awful music??
Why they didn’t built more of this it looks much nicer than both C130 and AN12
These are just so cool. How many aircraft can back up under its own power? Jets sure can't. cody rentzell, you're right, it does. Great video on an aircraft that should still be flying.
i like Boeing 707. ❤️
BRASIL CONGRATULATIONS
I think the turbine exhaust is a little too close to the wing. Indeed, it is attached to the wing. I wouldn't feel comfortable on that plane.
This aircraft was developed and used in the Arctic Circle. It is not intended to serve passengers.
There will not be any ice on that wing! :)
это вот так, что ли золото РФ вывозили в Англию?
Beautiful ! But who I wonder are the six who disliked this video ?
Perhaps Lockheed Constellation fans.
Perfect embassy evac planes because can takeoff and land on a aircraft carrier and carry 30 people. Helicopters suck because they're sitting ducks to a RPG.
26 passengers only
small principal landing gear
A British Cargomaster
Bet the Vicar was pleased...
Sadly, the plane crashed on takeoff from Sao Tomé, due to bird strike. No fatalities, but a write-off.
How sad.....
Lol capiltalist pig bird destroyed soviet machine 😆
What a beauty! Thanks.
The big Belfasts remind me of yooful days learning to fly Chipmunks with the Queens University Air Squadron at Sydenham in the 60's - now: "George Best International Playboy Airport" or some such . One of my mates was taxiing out from our base past a Belfast parked on the Shorts' apron and failed to notice the props turning. Once behind the gigantic air chucker his little Chippie immediately weathercocked into the anthropogenic storm and left him stuck there till the Fastback test crew F'd off and allowed him to escape and RTB for a little review of proceedings so far. Happy days.
My sincere respect for the pilots. High level of airmanship required to fly this beauty
Spend many hours in the air on this aircraft when it was operated by Pacific Western Airlines out of Vancouver BC Canada. I am very glad it found its home again in Australia and not in the scrap yard.
Ralph Steenstra this was the one John Travolta had
@@tracksidequeen sorry but you are wrong. The 707138B which we operated was ex Quantas. Indeed John Travolta had the same aircraft and was the last one coming off the production line.
My dad was a loadmaster at heavylift cargo airlines , flying on the Belfast many times . As well as there CL 44 super guppy
