How Fusion Could Revolutionise The World's Energy Sector
To reach global net zero targets, eyes are on the energy industry to develop and market a sustainable way of producing and distributing low carbon electricity. As the world’s population grows, and our reliance on technology and data increases, this has become one of the biggest climate challenges humanity faces. But there is a solution that’s being cultivated right now; and that solution is fusion.
Once considered the energy of the future, fusion harnesses the power of the stars to create the ultimate energy source. As Sir Ian Chapman, UK Atomic Energy Authority says, “Fusion could completely revolutionise the whole energy market. It’s inherently safe, it’s sustainable, it’s equitable and...

Is Fusion Technology Closer Than We Think?
Просмотров 883День назад
Fusion reactions power the sun and stars. Could the same process also power a sustainable future here on Earth? As Warrick Matthews explains, fusion could offer green baseload power for electricity and decarbonise some of our hardest to abate industries using high-grade heat. It could even enable the growth of AI. In short, fusion could transform the world as we know it, but innovation will be ...
Could Fusion Energy Be On The Power Grid By The Mid 2030s?
Просмотров 189День назад
Fusion has the potential to create a truly sustainable energy system, but its impact is sometimes regarded as a faraway promise. Could it be on the power grid sooner than we think? In the midst of the wider energy transition, the fusion sector is undergoing an exciting transition of its own - from basic research and development towards commercialisation. As Chris Mowry explains, this is a sourc...
Could Fusion Energy Be The Gamechanger Our Planet Needs?

Fusion could be the ultimate source of low carbon energy, but achieving the process on Earth is no small feat. What will it take to unlock its immense potential? As Sir Ian Chapman explains, technology is essential to success, but it's not the only factor. To deliver fusion and scale its impact, we must also build a new sector from the ground up. Sir Ian is CEO at UK Atomic Energy Authority - t...
Is Hydrogen The Quickest Way To Create Clean Energy?
Просмотров 38 тыс.Месяц назад
Clean hydrogen has a vital role to play in the global energy transition. Renewables are powering more of our world than ever before, but not everything can be electrified. Sectors like transport and heavy industry require intensive energy that renewables can’t supply, making them especially hard to abate. Hydrogen can help to decarbonise these more demanding aspects of our economy, but this vis...
How Namibia Is Leading Africa’s Green Hydrogen Revolution
Просмотров 11 тыс.Месяц назад
Green hydrogen is a key enabler of the energy transition. Unlike conventional hydrogen, which is often produced using fossil fuels, green hydrogen is the result of an electrolysis process powered by renewables. This point of difference doesn't just reduce emissions - it's also shaping the geo-economic landscape of an entire industry. As Toni Beukes explains, for countries in the Global South wi...

At first sight the major criticism of this process is that of scaling difficulties:how is it any different in this respect from established DAC ( Direct Air Capture)? That has been the criticism of DAC i.e. that plants such as Climeworks Mammoth in Iceland cannot simply be reproduced indefinitely due to the 'carbon footprint' and electricity demand.

CO2 is used for euthanasia and has been proven to make viruses more infectious. Dogs are housed at increasing concentrations inside of human dwellings and places of business like schools, hospitals, clinics, stores. This extra CO2 can cause health problems , displace precious oxygen, and increase virus transmission. Many studies have shown children to have better learning outcomes in a class room setting with decreased CO2 Levels.

The new era of the grid should see it be designed to be 'fit for purpose.' That is to say, far less waste is to be expected. Accordingly, take the current grid losses, and turn them into hydrogen generation and battery fill. As it stands currently, billions of dollars can be made in the immediate term, just by installing electrolyzers and batteries, at scale.

The Eirex Technology in Canada will produce green hydrogen not by electrolysis but energetic cavitation at $0.25 per KG or 25 cents per gasoline gallon equivalent from any type of water. The other Canadian startup called Ayrton Energy safely stores hydrogen in clear nontoxic liquid ideal for recycling existing oil infrastructure and can be recharged 1,000 times before new batch of margarine type liquid needs to be produced again. The Hydrogen Digital Dollar can be minted on Dfinity and ocean water stores 150X more Co2 than air to produce cement, bricks, hydrogen, Co2 Trading Credits on Dfinity plus chemicals also from ocean water as well.

When it comes to atmospheric carbon, the best solution is to not to put carbon into the air in the first place. However, treating carbon as a resource is an acceptable alternative.

First od all, we must focus on stopping burning any stuff at crazy rate, as we do 150 years. And then the best carbon removal process is photosynthesis. But as long as we emit more than 40 billion tuns of CO2 EACH YEAR, carbon removal from atmosphere using methods above has minuscule effect so far.

You raise an interesting point - greenhouse gas removal does not replace our urgent need to cut global emissions, but it can begin to address the damage that's already been done. Nature-based carbon removal techniques can also deliver co-benefits like restoring ecosystems and supporting biodiversity. Each solution has a vital role to play as we work to build a sustainable future 🌱
