Talisker Storm | Flatcap Whisky Review #001
This is a fabulous scotch! I love it! Terrific video!
No need to go to video... it's Ardbeg 10
@user-qk6uv8fq5j older Arbeg 10 is definitely better. But newer Ardbeg 10 still beats out drinking bandaids 10 out of 10 times.
@user-qk6uv8fq5j doesn't look like you deny that Laphroaig tastes likes bandaids...
@user-qk6uv8fq5j blimey bandaid licker
Laphoaig 🎉
The best one depends on what day it is for me!
@x5j94 I’m pretty one dimensional, I have about 70 bottles and all but 5 are from Islay! I can’t stand bourbon.
Ardbeg wee 5 year is better I feel than the 10.
Hmm its been awhile since I put the Wee Beastie and the Ardbeg 10 together. Makes sense though if you are going for a more Peaty profile.
Is the 5 more peaty?
Disagree wee beastie is more one dimensional
@farcue3325 I wouldn't say one dimensional. It packs more of a punch than the 10. The 10 year is not all that much more complex. It just blends the flavors more due to age.
@tudevoid not at all... the wee beasties offers a good kick from the youth and some lovely bbq. That's about it. The 10 offers a briney/maritime charecter that compliments the bbq, with a decent mouth feel that finishes on some vanilla sweetness. It's not complex no but carries far more depth then the beasties which is just a punchy young peat in my opinion
What a pointless video 🥱
When you like the Islay taste, but don't have Islay money!!
Still pretty good
I found it funny they wouldn't rate out of 100, but rather to 10. 9.5/10 so you're giving it 95/100 haha.
Still trying to figure out that scoring system lol
Good review I can't believe the views are so low! Hearing the pup walking around in the background gave me a smile too haha
Thank You! I thought this one would do very well but a lot of the blend reviews do higher from what I have seen.
This is not a standard Blend (i.e. Malt & Grain). It's a Blended MALT. That distinction is HUGE, and I hope you've learn to appreciate that since this video was originally posted. The only difference between a Blended Malt and a "Single" Malt is that the Blended Malt's "Blend" was made from malt whiskies casks from multiple distilleries, while the "single" malt is a blend from many casks from a single distillery. I have yet to try this, but I am interested in doing so.
I personally really like Gauldrons even made it my Whisky of the Year last year. Think its a good price point and a good entry point intro to Campbeltown scotches without the high price point.
Where am In this? Good choices…
So glad to see you…. Finally! Thanks for the shoutout. Great picks. Your show always brings a smile. Cheers 🥃
Welcome!
Both of these bare great but Ardbeg is my favorite.
I do love a good Ardbeg as well.
Cool to hear Bruce Wayne/aka Games…. voice. Greetings Bruce. Bunna 12 solid dram bordering on flawless for what it is and at great price. 88-90 for me. Cheers 🥃 Maybe we’ll get to place the face soon with Flatcap ?
"Let me get this straight. You think that Bunnahabhain should not have a v sound despite a Scottish dude telling you otherwise?" "I do, and I'm tired of pretending it's does."
Haha! I have this problem with a lot of the scottish distilleries as I'll default to the Irish pronounciation. 'Abhainn' (river) is pronounced with a W and not a V sound in Irish.
Love the Lore! Readily available for @ $100 online and reasonably priced if you shop around. It’s understood/speculated that Lore has considerably older juice married into this offering. Batch variations may vary. Great show boys! Cheers 🥃
Sadly my local store likes to get a little extra $$ on his stock. I loved this scotch though. I do think it gets a bad rap because of the NAS. I was just looking on their website and it states it's aged from 7-21 years could be some older stuff in there.
smash that 69 button!!
I’m gonna one up ya with my next low budget review…stay tuned…makes your offering look like top shelf
I cannot wait!
Well, traditionally in the Flintstones, they sealed a carved stone bottle with their fingers. If a cork is as traditional as you can get that's fine too. 69!
Good to see you guys again.😇
Nice Frankenstein glasses. I lost my virginity to Laphroaig 10 as well. I could see the color difference when you raised the glass to sip. Nice work but miss the brotherly chemistry. Cheers🥃
Laphroaig 10 is good! More fatherly. Now if you want brotherly would be a whole different game. You want to see some extreme tangents with @gamescommentary
the masking tape has a smell to it. youre gonna mess up the nose. At least both of them are going to get messed up. Also, your brother didnt say you werent going to like it....he said it's not a good way to get into whisky. Start neutral then move into things that arent neutral. God.
There wasn't much of a smell with the tape. I will say I forgot to mention that the Laphroaig bottle had quite a bit of air in it.
I'm sub #38 my friend. I'm a fellow libations reviewer and will be supporting your like minded channel. Cheers!
It would have been so much easier if they also refer to the PROOF instead of just listing ABV
That would be nice as well
Great precise presentation!
Much apricated John! Thanks! 🍻
Great work guys. I fully salute your choice of an IB Blend. Us WhiskyTubers should make an effort to spread the word on more available and reasonably priced stuff rather than adding fuel to the hype, scarcity and ever increasing prices fire that surrounds currently trendy whisky. Especially when it comes to Springbank. Whisky from the Springbank group has largely been unavailable over here for a while. Some is starting to trickle through now but I still have more Springbank in my house than all the local bottle shops combined right now. It was also interesting hearing you talk about JW and stuff that's available in pubs to you. Sad to say but in my part of the UK there are a fair few pubs that don't even have JW Black. One of my locals only has The Jacobite which is a HORRIBLE bottom shelf blend which I believe is made by Whyte and Mackay. Quite a few UK pubs only have stuff like Famous Grouse, Grant's and Bell's (which I'm also now learning isn't a common blend outside of the UK). Also... Samsung washing machine at 20:30 🤣 anyone that has one will know what I mean. I was watching this video in my car and hearing that genuinely made me question reality for a couple of seconds. Cheers!
😂 didn't even notice the washer until you pointed it out.
This content will be great for mainlanders
Great episode if I may say so. I like the blinded reviews because it’s honest and true to that specific moment…
Naming Galdrons whisky of the year...wow what a whisky snob lololol! Keep it up and remember: Antarctica surrounds us all and keeps us safe from outer space.
Thoroughly enjoyed your show! Liked the zooming feature. The Lore is worth $100 + all day Arrdddbeggg is the most Un-Ardbeg IMHO and an impressive dram! SB 12 -56.1 is awesome but needs teaspoon or tablespoon of water per dram to open it up. Haven’t had The Gauldrons but I see it on Town Wine’s site for $60 and they list it as SB & GS. I will grab one soon! Sounds like you are officially challenging me to a JW run through 😳 if I can find their “discovery” set or the like for low dough then it’s on! If you ever plan a road trip to Cape Cod or to Town Wine then let’s meet up. Cheers🥃
I think I have seen a discovery edition JW in 50ml think it was like $45 for the set. I personally would like to try some Lore unlike my co-host here lol
I liked John Andre's peated and non peated sides, except for the actual choices. But he should say what he used to say" no matter what is costs, it's just whisky Some people believe that an integrity bottling is only possible at cask strength. The label should state no additional water added as well as non-chill filtered and natural color.
I originally set up at Peated and non-Peated category but soon realized most of the Scotch reviews we have done were peated. Exactly! "no matter what is costs, it's just whisky" Love that saying cause it just comes down to its just whisky!
…and remember no matter how much it costs or how good it is…It’s Just Whisky folks!
So Jack … your picks?
@@justwhisky it's a tough racket here at the year's end. I think the Ralfy bump, and congratulations on picking first!. The Ralfy bump has to do with setting something apart for the following year based on quality and an integrity bottling without any contradictory experiences. In other words it's not a competition of his favorite whisky he tasted in 2021 nor is it the " only bottle to bring to a deserted island". It's just something that becomes a list of his worthy choices, the picks are always the same, age stated (moderate age) 46% natural presentation. Ledaig was well over due even though us fans would prefer it to remain a secret. I wouldn't presume to have an opinion on anything more than my own experience and even though I haven't had a dram of Ledaig 10 for over a year. I do have 2 backup older bottles, and my Clynelish 14 has been gassed up and sealed for quite a while. I did buy a backup of the Glen Scotia 15 recently. I'll vote with my actions. In my humble collection I try to gather bottles of similar characteristics in the hopes of doing blind flights. For example: official NAS CS sherry bombs like Tamdhu, A'bunadh, and Glenfarclas 105. With all the batch variations every year it's hard to always rank these. They can become a high water mark to compare the current expression if they make it to your list. Seems like the SB12CS is the only one that is making the grade. Believe me, I love the lists, love the confirmation of my collection and I love getting ideas on what I need to look for. I would pick Official integrity bottles that would always be open on my bar. To get to the point: unpeated Tomatin 18. -great value -complex enough to the point that it really needs to open up for at least 20 minutes. As for the peated dram in the glass. Age stated (no Cairdeas) Value (no Cairdeas) I was an Ardbeg10 fan. It was $45. And never disappoints. Until the committee releases. But after the core range what do we really need. And then there's Ledaig 10. We can agree that it's a viable if not superior alternative to being Islay Blind. I became infatuated with Tobermory. There is something about that dram that is more interesting than the average peat. I have spent more money on Mull whisky than any other single distillery, except SB, Hazelburn and Longrow as one. So what about next year? Port Charlotte? Doesn't really matter does it, it's just whisky!
@@jackthepickledhound Port Charlotte didn’t do it for me but do like some Octomore. Agree SB 12 rules! Cheers 🥃
Happy new year
Happy New Year!
time for a mind funk...single malts are often blends of other single malts made by the same distiller! lol crunch the numbers on that one.
Kline-Eye-Lish is numba wwwwaaaaaannnnnnnnnnn
Wario is numbaaa Wwwaaaaaannnn
@@flatcapwhiskyreviews Ima a gunna weeen!! mwahaha
The ONLY JW I would consider buying and reviewing is the Green. I can’t count how many times I’ve reached for it on the store shelves and put it back. The Green is 43% ( which although somewhat respectable compared to all the 40%’s) is something I can forgo on my journey thus far. I tell you what…. When hell freezes over or when the South Pole returns. Entertaining as always boys. Thanks for the shout out and Happy New Year! Cheers🥃
😂 reviewing a JW is like a right of passage and doing it blind will make you re think it all. I have looked at the Green Label many time but never picked it up. I hope the south poll is still there lol Happy New Year!
@@flatcapwhiskyreviews right of passage?… oh is that the fake Lewis & Clark expedition?
@@justwhisky More like the Oregon Trail but without the dysentery. The journey will be rough but once your are through the unpleasantness you can easily find better Scotch.
No South Pole?!!! Next you’ll tell me there’s no Santa.
I cant wait for Diago's marketing department to get this video passed to them on twitter one day. They will write some copy: "1 of 2 new yorkers say Johnny Walker Red is Cline-Eye-Lish 14," and laugh all the way to the bank.
Great entertaining and honest review lads. Maybe batch variations? Good to see the “hoots” back! Ledaig 10 was the solid winner for peat but Clynelish 14 won kinda by default as Glencadam 15 really is a masterpiece but very challenging to find and I didn’t want to copy Ralfy but looks like he copied me with Ledaig 10 being WOTY 😂 Cheers🥃 to a great year ahead! You guys always bring a smile 😊
We are back! I am hearing great things from the Ledaig 10 hope to try it one day.
I never met a Springbank I did not like
Exactly!
Guys....the way John Andre said NY/NJ border I thought we'd have the same hunting grounds. I'm downstate with easy access to Danbury CT. I think the 10 is a beautiful citrus heavy dram but in a different world from the 12CS. And yes! An Ardbeg line up is always good content. After spending $200 on new Laphroaigs, I am more convinced then ever that the Ardbeg10 is the only peat you really need. Everything else in the cabinet is there to aggravate my wife
I agree Ardbeg might be better then Laphroiag but that 10 Sherry Finish is really good.
lmao do a live tasting at the fair, in the barn
I just buried my nose in white pepper….hopefully not addictive… and low and behold to my surprise I picked up on the farmyard funk as described. Learn something new everyday! Great show boys! It took a few Springbanks over the last few years for me to get it but now I’m hooked and in their 🏕 camp. Would love to see some unedited outtakes, political or not. Look forward to Ardbeg lineup or the Rock Oyster( from Town Wine in Pawtucket)( was there again last week.) Thanks again for the shout out. Your names?? Rock on Oyster 🦪 🥃
I'd have imagined that the Harmony would be a good whiskey to introduce noobs to Whiskey... but I guess it's not to everyone's tastes!
I thought it would be a good one for them to try
Nice review
Thank You!
Nice show boys! As far as jokes go... Ask forgiveness Not permission. Great sound and picture btw. Thanks again for the shoutout. For some reason, your last posted comment to my channel only showed up in the 🚨 alert and also my email but not on my actual comment section for my show?? This has happened once before as well. Have no idea why. That’s why I couldn’t respond to it... FYI. Must be some random flaw in RUclips system? Keep up the good work! Cheers 🥃
Thank You! You might have the comment mode where some comments get flagged for reviews on.
"And remember, no matter how unfunny it is or how much the production cost, it's just comedy folks" - John Oliver
Love the Ardbeg, Cheers
Elliot at Town Wine & Spirits Pawtucket Rhode Island knows his stuff and excellent selection of Scotch. I was just there couple days ago.
He is great! He sent a email to him asking about Ardbeg Scorch Committee release but they only got the non committee version. My usual online shop since they ship to NY
Oh yeah... loved the cartoon
A classic Point and Click adventure game from LucasArts in 1997 Curse of Monkey Island
Lost count of the “John Andre” shout outs... my RUclips channel however defaults as “ Just Whisky “ Always enjoy your unique authentic approach...keeping it real with underlying humor. Ying & Yang. I will return the shoutout favor on my next show. Your sound was a bit low on this show. Suggest a small clip on mike from Amazon for about 10 bucks that works great. You don’t have to wear it just place it on your bar between you... cord is quite long. That’s what I use now. Works great and simple like US!😳🤣 I need to watch it again to get a full count on the shout outs.
Yeah, One of the reasons it took awhile for me to edit. My Blue Yeti mic was not selected in Audacity which I didn't notice till editing it. I would like to get a Lav mic at some point.
