Packrafting Tip Top Silver Fork of the American River
Просмотров 585Год назад
This relatively obscure section on the Silver Fork of the American River drains Silver Lake, flowing through the Eldorado National Forest (and Caldor Fire burn scar) for 5.5 miles before intersecting with Silver Fork Road at Fitch-Ranz Bridge. Seldom run due to unpredictable water releases, a long shuttle, and multiple unrunnable waterfalls in the first mile, this section makes an excellent pad...

Kayaking Lower Pauley Creek at ultra low flows, approx. 165cfs on the Dreamflows gauge. This is super mellow level for first-timers, there is no push at all. All the major rapids still go, but the in-between stuff is really manky at this level. Look for 250 and up for more paddling and 350 if you want a real adventure. You should speak with Matt Cronin about coating the bottom of the boat with the stuff they use on Creature Crafts (polyurethane I believe). Not sure how that would affect how well it packs but would definitely make it last!

    I just got mine today. Wiped it down with WD-40 wearing gloves. Loaded it with 1/4 of capacity of pellets and got a 35+ minute burn. This stove is awesome. Good for four to five people with plenty of heat. IMO much more heat than many claim. Heat shield should only be needed in winter. Older folks will enjoy the carry weight. Very good for travel. I'm very happy with my purchase.

      Nice! Was the WD-40 to prevent rusting prior to heat? I ask because my fire tray at the bottom rusted severely after I had a few fires and then left it out in the rain for a weekend.

    Think the ranger is big enough for a backyard firepit? Or would the ranger be more for travel? 15" sounds small and I see a lot in the 19-21"

    • @leftcoastadventure
      @leftcoastadventure 11 месяцев назад

      It's on the small end for a proper backyard pit, but the upshot is if you go with this size you only need one for both backyard + travel. I'd say it's good for a group of ~4 people.
