Packrafting Tip Top Silver Fork of the American River
Просмотров 585Год назад
This relatively obscure section on the Silver Fork of the American River drains Silver Lake, flowing through the Eldorado National Forest (and Caldor Fire burn scar) for 5.5 miles before intersecting with Silver Fork Road at Fitch-Ranz Bridge. Seldom run due to unpredictable water releases, a long shuttle, and multiple unrunnable waterfalls in the first mile, this section makes an excellent pad...

Alpacka Valkyrie Walkthrough / Review - The Best Packraft Ever Made?

A walkthrough and initial review of the Alpacka Valkyrie packraft, the newest "class V" inflatable boat from Alpacka Raft. Is it the best packraft ever made? After a 2-year wait, I received this boat 2 weeks ago and put it through its paces on a 3-day backcountry mission in California's Sierra Nevada mountains. 0:00 - Intro 0:20 - Valkyrie history 1:08 - Hull design 2:55 - Cockpit 3:49 - Riggin...

Kayaking Pauley Creek at Ultra Low Flows - It Still Goes!
Просмотров 1694 года назад
Kayaking Lower Pauley Creek at ultra low flows, approx. 165cfs on the Dreamflows gauge. This is super mellow level for first-timers, there is no push at all. All the major rapids still go, but the in-between stuff is really manky at this level. Look for 250 and up for more paddling and 350 if you want a real adventure. Packrafting Coyote Creek in Alameda County
great scenery, great video, epic pack rafting trip. thanks for sharing.
Sweet and too the point!
Nice short vid abd to the point!
Einfach wunderschön. Grüße ronactive
You should speak with Matt Cronin about coating the bottom of the boat with the stuff they use on Creature Crafts (polyurethane I believe). Not sure how that would affect how well it packs but would definitely make it last!
Wait you guys hiked out? Why not go to the lake??
We didn’t set a shuttle because packrafts and ran everything we were excited about.
I purchased a ranger a month ago also purchased the pellet adapter but haven’t had time for a fire yet, thanks
I just got mine today. Wiped it down with WD-40 wearing gloves. Loaded it with 1/4 of capacity of pellets and got a 35+ minute burn. This stove is awesome. Good for four to five people with plenty of heat. IMO much more heat than many claim. Heat shield should only be needed in winter. Older folks will enjoy the carry weight. Very good for travel. I'm very happy with my purchase.
Nice! Was the WD-40 to prevent rusting prior to heat? I ask because my fire tray at the bottom rusted severely after I had a few fires and then left it out in the rain for a weekend.
Friggin' sick, dude! I didn't know you bombed the Black Canyon! I gotta get out there some time soon. Pretty scenery, righteous rapids.
Thank you for sharing, excellent video!
2:45 is just an awesome move. 🔥😎
Such a fun rapid!
So cool!
Where is this?
Gunnison Gorge, after we ran the Black Canyon. Western Colorado.
What skirt are you using?
It’s a prototype by Immersion Research.
Man, that stern rocker! Looks like it would absolutely launch off a drop.
Man I’ve been trying to hold off on pulling the trigger and this didn’t help. Good stuff. The V2 has been a dream boat but the 3 is looking more like a wet dream.
It’s the ultimate kayaker’s packraft , really handles like a modern creek boat.
I watched this video twice 1 and half month ago, then I wathced it 1 month ago, then 2 weeks ago and now again ! =) Very big pleasure to watch your videos!! If I will buy Alpacka Valkyrie , it will happends because of your videos =) Thanks and sorry my english =)
Thanks for watching! I’ll post a review video of the new Valkyrie v3 soon - it’s an incredible boat!
@@leftcoastadventure cool!!! thanks
@@leftcoastadventure will be cool if you'll show difference between them also (using both packrafts =) )
That looks like a fun creek! I’d love for someone to show me down that someday!
Looks like a wonderful part of the world….
May I know what paper you used to light it up? Just a normal paper?
Think I used whatever was on the top of my recycling bin. Newspaper works best. Or dryer lint.
The road down to the ramp is a beast in its own right!
Looks fun! Thanks for the video and nice paddling!
Maybe a daft question… but has anyone tried surfing a shore break in one of these. I’m not expecting much as it doesn’t have rails but I wonder if it would still surf enough to be fun?
Yes, I’ve been surfing with a friend who was paddling a Valkyrie. Not a lot of control, lots of side surfing, unclear if he had “fun.” 😂
Thanks for taking us along Trent! I’ve always been so curious about that river. Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous! Ya’ll are intrepid!
Ms. Lizard here
Cool rock formations!
Think the ranger is big enough for a backyard firepit? Or would the ranger be more for travel? 15" sounds small and I see a lot in the 19-21"
It's on the small end for a proper backyard pit, but the upshot is if you go with this size you only need one for both backyard + travel. I'd say it's good for a group of ~4 people.
BALLS!!!! 😮😮😮
“nice duuude” classic trent line
I also accidentally called myself Papa at one point 🤣
wow! that is impressive. most excellent video!
Sweet edit but more importantly, glad we're sticking with King Gizzard.
I’m gonna keep using their songs until I run out of songs, which isn’t physically possible
love this video m8!
Lower intestine is the dream rapid- awesome footage!
It’s such a cool drop! The ultimate cross-current boof rapid.
sick
Fantastic! 👏. Nice work y’all. So good. Great video. The Valkyrie is such a game changing design. So fun to paddle. I keep throwing harder stuff at it and it shrugs it off.
Totally agree on the Valkyrie, and they keep making it better! I got to paddle the v3 on this trip and it's 🤌
@@leftcoastadventure It’s an addiction, I’ve got 5 of these damn packrafts for all types of water. Gonna have to declare bankruptcy if they don’t stop improving their boats every year.
Amazing, what a river!
I can tell you're an actual boater from your boof strokes. I looked at Dreamflows today, looks like it has pretty much dropped out, but I would love to get on this section. Looks so fun. How low do you think this can be run?
Hah, thanks for noticing! I've been a kayaker for 20+ years. 50cfs was rock bottom minimum, I'd recommend 70cfs or more if you want to run most of the drops down to Strawbilly.
@@leftcoastadventure what level does the falls go at? any notable hazards?
@@rossmillermedia6782 I would say 100cfs min. for Strawbilly to have a comfortable landing, maybe 75. And yes, there are two massive unrunnable waterfall / slides and one boxed-in manky gorge. Everything is easy to scout.
Love it. Looking forward to joining tomorrow!
I’ve never seen a pack raft with a spray skirt. What kind of boat is it?
It's the Alpacka Valkyrie, a packraft designed for kayakers and advanced paddlers. I love it! www.alpackaraft.com/products/valkyrie
What kind of alpacas are those?
Alpacka Valkyries, the best whitewater packrats ever made! www.alpackaraft.com/products/valkyrie
@@leftcoastadventure Looks rad! Never seen them before, but look sexy and capable!
Did you guys make it to the water slides? With some pools.
We started in the middle of the slides section, below where kayakers who hike in via Kibbie Ridge usually put on.
nice work!
Appreciate you unlocking this section for duckies
This is epic!
A little over 20 years ago a group of us hiked about two miles above the trailhead with our Thrillseekers and ran down to Junction City - a good time was had by all.
Nice! At these flows, that lower section looked way gnarlier than what we ran.
Such good times! Glad we made the late morning rally, and glad that Bear Creek wasn't Canyon Creek haha.
Sure, I get it, I leave and then u do the cool stuff
Weather was perfect, lolz
Did the packrafts handle all the granite slides ok? Scary watching a $2,000 floating scraping rocks for three days straight
It did fine, took some mild damage on the hull under the heels which you can see at ruclips.net/video/c44BwIYaFv4/видео.html. But I bought it to scrape down slides and bash against rocks, so wear and tear is expected.
Absolutely premium B-Roll on this bad boy
I'm better at B than A
I was told there was terror mank. This just looks downright pleasant.
Hah, the terror mank was everything below this section... and also the last rapid, in which one of us had a brief out of boat experience
Great video! Which camera did you use for the non GoPro shots? They were so great!
Thanks! We used an iPhone 11 Pro and an iPhone 13 Mini. I run mine in a waterproof case in my PFD pocket for quick cinematic shots on the water / while portaging. They shoot *amazing* video.
Beautiful stretch of water
