I’ve come to a point after realizing that several other veteran friends and acquaintances have said to me that it is a basically a way to step away from having a further discussion about their experiences. It’s a disingenuous statement that allows the person to just walk away guilt free. It wasn’t said when I was younger to vets of WW2/Korean conflict. It was way too stimulating and traumatic to say as much. Vietnam vets were shit on for the most part. I know bcz I went to college with many of them. I was fortunate to have been in during a quieter time from 78-85…. I, however, was in for six years active duty. At my current age of 70, Not counting my youth until 18, 6 outta 52 years is still more than 1/10 of my adulthood. I have not gotten one iota of anything out of this. Zip! I had almost 4 years of college before I enlisted. I had no more direction for a career when I got out either other than I did my time and learned a trade and made my rank/rate higher. Got out an E5. Didn’t do a damn thing in the job market nor did my trade get me much help at the employment offices I walked into. I went to non-nuke welding school and my time in service qualified as a pipefitter journeyman. I spent enough time in the trade to know that I was not going to work in a shipyard. 5 years after schools fleet active was enough. So, when I see more recent vets cringe about that phrase I am not surprised. Who knows what they had for trauma in Iraq or Afghan conflicts. They certainly know of the collateral damage that happened. That’s probably a hard thing to cope with whether or not they were on any frontline. So … when I hear “thank you for your service” … I often remember FOAD to myself… you really don’t know shit or have a damn clue.

I totally agree. It is very awkward. And for a lot you had to do some things that you werent proud of which is one part that will make it hard to respond to the thank you, because as soon as its said you basically just start thinking of all the horible things you saw or did and you just feel guilt or ashamed and you really dont know how to respond. I was caught not long after i got out at a bad time when i was struggling with nightmares, sleep deprevation, and just heavy drinking and my response wasnt very good.

This guy hit the nail on the head, As a fellow retired airman we WOULD have been held accountable for actions even our actions taken in fear and we expect the same from our other public servants! FEAR is NO EXCUSE for this officers action or any officers actions for that matter! yet here we are almost every day we see a video of a officer breaking someone's civil rights because they are scared! Because you know OFFICER SAFETY has been deemed to trump everything and which is just a code word for OFFICER COWARDICE!...America needs to address this NOW!

If there is not DEI with regard to fitness test in the usaf why have charts for men and women? And why are the women's requirements lower than the men's?

When you send your kids on the school bus would you prefer the bus driver be a dei hire ? Or a strictly competence based hire. Dei's danger is directly related to the potential harm of the occupation. Should a structural engineer or the presidential secret service be a dei hire?

This is not a communication style issue, it is a forced ideology issue. (Lipstick on a pig).

The work isn't important. The world doesn't agree with you. DEI kept poking people and bothering people and laughing about it. The market has spoken.

DEI is fraudulent in its conception. If it's really needed, it shouldn't need to be artificially propped up.

What are things you do to combat the pressure of high work demands?

Sorry, but the fact is that the sheriff announced himself clearly and loudly. “ sheriff department open the door.” Twice. It doesn’t matter if it’s the right or wrong apartment, if the police announced they’re at the door and you open the door with a gun in your hand, that’s the wrong thing to do. Doesn’t matter how it was held. With all the information the officer had, it’s normal to fear for your life. Especially with the uptick of police being killed in the line of duty. The training police get about how deadly domestic violence disputes have become. Many officers have been killed responding to family disputes this year alone. Those incidents are disseminated throughout police departments across the country. So it’s logical that this officer was in fear of his life, just like anyone else would feel in his shoes. And the media is adding doubt and gas to the fire by reporting, “ white officer kills black Airman. This situation is sad all around . For our young men out there, regardless of race. Don’t open the door if you’re not sure who’s on the other side. What if it was a home invader? The outcome could’ve been the same. Call 911 and verify that it’s the police. If you think it’s the police, talk through the door. Tell them you’re a licensed carrier and that you’re armed. He or she will tell you to stow the gun in a safe place then open the door. But to open the door in a high tension situation with a gun in your hand is fatal. This event proves that. With all the accusations of this event, I believe that officer was fired because of the political fire storm the township is facing and trying to avoid. The most important thing right now is to support the Airman family. To pray for them. To show them all the love they deserve for such a loss. He truly is a Patriot and a tremendous loss, not only for his family and Air Force, but to the nation that sorely needs young men like him that risked his life in the defense of our nation. Fly-Fight-Win. His service to our nation embodied that. I know our lord Jesus has him in his embrace ✝️🇺🇸
