This is a fun video! Love the very quick descriptions. I love hearing what other people have read in a year! Thank you x
Thank you for your lovely comment! Happy New Year :)
Great video! I love Circe so much! Will be checking out Prophet Song and 10 minutes 38 seconds😊
Just happened upon your channel and love your reviews! Some great titles, got yourself a new subscriber 💕
Thank you! 🥰
Great review! I love the book, full of insights
Thank you! 😊
A tale of shattered knights and rising heroes. Every video is a treat! Your hard work and passion really show. Looking forward to more great content!
Thank you so much for your comment! You have made my day :)
Thank you for the video! You are very good at describing what makes each book work for you in a way that makes me want to read them
Thank you so much! ☺
Fantastic video! Thank you for the recommendations! "Convenience Store Woman" and "Prophet Song" have been in my to-check list for a long time, you have made me want to go for them next year. Also, regarding Sally Rooney, I have been avoiding her because of her sudden Popularity on Bookstagram (paired with many romantic smut novels) but after your video, doing my first research on her work, I have noticed I was very WRONG about the content of her books! Which one would you recommend to read first? Thank you so much for your high-quality videos and reviews. I wish you a wonderful Holiday Season!
Thank you for your comment! I would recommend starting with Intermezzo actually, as (maybe I have recency bias) I think it is her best work to date. I think the structure, the characters, the analysis of communication is really fantastic :)
Have a wonderful holiday season too! Thank you for watching :)
Thanks for your thoughts on these books that you have chosen Rhianna. Some of them I have been keenly interested in reading, e.g. Prophet Song, 30 Minutes... and your synopsis really helps to narrow down choices. Also, something like Circes sounds intriguing and your comments bring it up as a good option. Have a good Christmas 😊🎄
Thank you! I think Prophet Song, 10 Minutes and 38 seconds and Circe are great choices. Let me know your thoughts if you pick them up! Thank you for the well wishes - I hope you have a good Christmas too! Happy reading 📚
I finished my re-read of Tender is the flesh (I had read the original work, in Spanish, some years ago and now I decided to read the Brazilian Portuguese translation) and I can't help to love that book. I know the topics are terrible but somehow I enjoyed so much. I agree with you, the animal cruelty/vegan propaganda isn't the theme but the deshumanization and how easy, in this society and capitalist economy, it is to ignore that we all are humans and should have the same right to live. The scariest thing about the book is that it feels like something that could happen. We have proof everyday that some people see others like an inferior being, and also that we adapt and ignore injustices.
Thank you for your comment! I totally agree. It is so unnerving in the book how detached and cut off people are from the suffering. Thank you for your thoughts :)
Hello Rhianna, what a lovely Tbr list! I am no good in reading horror books myself, so I can relate to that ;) I do like mysteries, though. I really liked The Thursday Murder Club (I've read all 4 books so far) and can recommend the serie. For me personnally The wind in the willows feels like a book you should read in spring or summer. The story starts in spring and there are a lot of descriptions of nature. I absolutely love the book! I tried to read Autumn by Ali Smith last year, but I did not finish it... well, I just read a few chapters, to be honest. I felt confused and bored, so I stopped reading it. Enjoy your books!
Thank you for your comment! I haven't got round to Wind in the Willows yet so I think it'll be added to my spring tbr next year. Thank you :)
I'd rather watch the final hours of a dying light bulb
it's very interesting as well if you consider the context where it was written: Argentina is one of the countries that consume the most kg of beef per person, meat/churrasco is part of their cultural idendity, not just food
You should read chainsaw man, it’s completely not a traditional book, but it’s also literally peak fiction, and I feel compelled to tell everyone who reads to read it, because it looks like a crappy gory mess for teenage boys but it’s genuinely one of the most heartfelt stories about poverty and love and just a guy trying to make his crappy hand in life work and it’s still being written published chapter by chapter it’s peak please
what are u on about Denji literally wants something to touch happily😂😂
@@flyinglobster9552 you very obviously did not pick up on any of the subtext or subtleties of CSM, or haven’t finished part 1 yet
My friend read it and told me what is about, i inattentive guessed the ending lol
Don't think I could ever read that as a vegetarian cus all I thought was, just don't eat meat then?
the problem is, we could never feed a vegan or vegetarian diet to the current world population without obliterating all the last surviving native eco systems. Rice fields are what nearly wiped out pandas. Chickpeas need very very specific enviroments to grow which are mostly native lush lands. To make B12 vitamine require staggering ammounts of water to grow the bacteria that produces it. Nothing about that would be possible without irrieversable genocide against wildlife. And before i get hate, I am mostly vegetarian.
As a vegan, every time I find a piece of fiction like this, or everytime I hear someone complain that they will *have* to eat insects in the future and it grosses them out, I’m like, come on 😅 B12 vitamins, rice and chickpeas are a simple solution to your problem 😂 But if eating animals is impossible in this world, I guess they *are* eating vegans…
Honestly same as a vegetarian, I heard this and was like, you could also just not eat meat? It's not like we don't have a ton of replacements, why would you choose the absolute worst option?
Haha YES exactly 😂 (But without it, no good story in that case 😋)

Did fruits and vegetables also not exist in this future?
fruit and veg wouldn't be able to fully replace meat in a diet. There are some substitutes, but it would put a strain on those products if we had to fully replace meat with them. But I'm curious how a virus made all animal meat poisonous to humans, and was spread over all animals around the world... and with no way to reverse it. But realism isn't the point of dystopian futures most of the time.
Propably, bit still: meat
U kind of need meat to survive well at least some form of protein don’t know how rare that was in the book tho

@@snusmumricken Yes, but we now have the ability to make large scale greenhouse and we have the start of lab grown meat. Now I haven't read the book in question, but there aren't a lot of ways to have an animals meat be toxic to people regardless of how it is processed and NOT be toxic to other things that eats those animals too so worrying about an ecological disaster for wildlife would probably be a moot point. I just have trouble reasonably grasping a scenario where everybody collectively decides cannibalism is the best option for survival. Especially given the horrific diseases that can be rapidly spread because of it. Eco system damage may have led to decline for pandas but the fact is the entire species seems to have trouble with the concept of mating and reproduction to the point where I'm thinking no matter what they are going to go extinct. See also Kolas who are constantly drugged out of their minds, can't recognize food unless it is still attached to the tree, and have MASSIVE rates of infertility due to chlamydia that is driving them towards extinction in the not so distant future.
I heard "most disturbing book I've ever read" and I immediately thought "it's tender is the flesh, isn't it" 😅 Great book; it really makes you think.
I LOVE THIS BOOK SO MUCJ
You guys will do anything to not go vegan.
Yeah, up to and including absolutely nothing, you dork. It's a mediocre scifi that's a less intelligent Soylent Green. If i lived in the horrorshow you think the real world is I'd take myself out back and donate my organs to science

ever heard of fiction?
Time to visit the library
So the virus affects 100% of animals, including primates, but not humans?
The ending to Tender is the Flesh will live in my brain rent free as long as I live. It goes down as probably the most chilling scene I’ve ever read. That said, there were many details within the book hinting that author isn’t familiar with animal husbandry, or slaughter practices in general. There simply are no real-life equivalents for the more horrifying imagery. If people actually treated animals the way humans are treated in the book, the meat would be inedible. So if the goal was to point fingers at factory farming, it missed the mark. There’s plenty to criticize without making things up. The dehumanization, however, is where the book does an excellent job at showing the lengths that people will go to detach themselves from the suffering of others.
I think the main point could have been to show how horrific actions can be normalized and accepted, and how people will fall in line if they live within systems that allow them to commit these acts
You really need to read Life Ceremony by Sayaka Murata. It has a similar, albeit more horrific premise. But i was really intrigued by the concept nonetheless
I like all her work, but Life Ceremony is my favourite! The pacing really shines in the short story format🙌
Am currently reading Blood Meridian and it's so good I'm already anxious for it's ending. Tender is the flesh seems to be a great follow up for the "disturbing sensation" I'm looking for. Thanks for the recommendation. Ps: don't mind my English, not a first language
I loved watching this because I’m living away from home atm and I’m homesick and miss Canterbury 😭 so this has helped thank you 🫶🏻
Aw thank you! I'm sorry you feel homesick but glad this could bring some comfort. Are you from Canterbury? It's such a lovely city! :)
Hi Rhianna, Thank you for sharing your writing journey so far. I thought your comments in the outro reflect how you are dealing with your feelings on what you write as you mature. All of us enjoy validation in what we do, whatever that may be, however your thoughts on writing for your own enjoyment and fulfilment trumping that need is so refreshing. As a much older person, I can assure you that 27 years is not old and that your time and effort with your writing may achieve some validation in the future. You have lessened the personal pressure on yourself in how you are going forward and who knows what that may bring. My best wishes with your endeavours and enjoy each moment with pride.
Thank you for your lovely comment! I wish you the best in your endeavours also :)
That‘s such a lovely melody! 🥰 I would love that as a ambient music loop so i can listen to it while reading the book!
Thank you! That is very kind 🥰

Thank you! :)
I was weirdly so on board for Earthlings but felt extremely uncomfortable reading The Vegetarian. Loved your description of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland!!
I completely understand! The Vegetarian is pretty unsettling. Thank you! :)
The book reminded me of My year of rest and relaxation, how funny that you felt that too! I loved the book and your review is great!!
Thank you! I'm glad you also enjoyed it :)
Very cozy! I love the music!

How fortunate for me! I just started The Way of Kings (on Ch.14). I’ll watch this in sections as I read
Nice! I hope you enjoy :)
I get super excited anytime I see someone experiencing Way of Kings for the first time. Life Before Death! You are in for an awesome ride with the rest of Stormlight

So far my favorite Brandon Sanderson book and one of my favorite books of all time
Ooo exciting! I'm hyped :)
@@drewigi Wow, that's great to hear! :)
I definitely dont read as much as I should, lol. Im a big fan of horror movies, but i usually find the books lacking. IT definitely stood out for me i that genre. Hope you continue the stormlight archives! If you enjoy it, you might want to try out a wheel of time.
I have never read IT, but I feel as though at some point I will take that venture. The wheel of time is a series I would love to read in the future! Thank you for your comments :)
Im so excited for you to jump into this series. One of my favorites. Doing a re listen right now and about 12 hours to go.
Cool! I'm so excited to read Words of Radiance :)
McGlue is one of my favourite books, it got me out of a massive reading slump. An amazing read! Great video :) Edit: McGlue like Lapvona is very different from her other works, male main character and it’s historical fiction. However is is significantly better than Lapvona which I agree is not excellent
Great! I'm even more excited to get to it now :)
I think I just found my new comfort RUclipsr :,) ❤
Thank you! That is so kind :)
This is seriously so cool! I can only hope the og author can one day find this inspired tribute to their work. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you for your lovely comment! :)
I visited Berlin and Saint George’s a year ago and spent an hour there buying books. As you mentioned the pricing is reasonable and I also loved the vibe there. My favorite bookstore in Berlin. Great video!
Cool! I'm glad you had a chance to visit. It is really nice. Thank you :)
Oooh, for me the ultimate unhinged female protagonist book is I Love Dick by Chris Kraus. It's part-fiction-part-memoir about the author writing increasingly obsessive love letters addressed (but not sent) to her husband's colleague, Dick, who is more or less unaware of this increasingly invasive infatuation. It can be a very unpleasant read, it is a straight up invasion of privacy in the most uncomfortable way, but that also kinda makes it compelling.
Wow, that sounds unhinged haha. I will definitely have to check it out. Thank you for the recommendation :)
This is such a lovely review. I’ve seen a lot of positive reviews of All Fours, but yours is the only one that’s made me want to go out and read it 🎉
Thank you for your lovely comment! I hope you enjoy the book :)
