First aired as part of the Meg Quigley Vivaldi Competition and Bassoon Symposium in January 2021, this short video provides a glimpse into the bassoon and contrabassoon manufacturing process at Fox Products in South Whitley, IN.
Hi “Fox Bassoon “ The 21 Century new with old school craftsmanship and quality done with ♥️ does make impressive Sounds from this musical instrument. Hearing and seeing any musical instrument will draw in the professional and the new music students of all ages. I was hooked on the flute section of a marching band from Japan. Wow seeing and hearing This band in the 2012 and 2018 Pasadena Rose Parade got me hooked, by Kyoto Tachibana Senior High School Marching Band. OK FOX besides rockin the flute French horn alto clarinet, yep now trying “The Bassoon “ already being used in sit down concerts, now at lest TWO bassoons On the march from playing Star Wars to Sing Sing Sing while doing race choreography with marching. Yes Kyoto Tachibana is having difficulty with bassoon and probably also want more projection of the sound. This added instrument besides the alto clarinet the bassoon also being added to the instruments now accepted as part of the new marching bands in Japan. Must say seeing and hearing your beautiful bassoons on a tiny iPhone 14 Plus the sound and looks shining. BRAVO 👏

I'm very curious to see how these compare to a newer Heckel, a Bell, Walter, Yamaha and the other makers who make professional instruments play. Fox is known for its consistency but hearing this bassoon was developed separately from other models makes me curious.

They are generally considered student and intermediate instruments, though a few A-list orchestra principals have endorsed them and play them.

Glad to see that Fox has begun a RUclips channel. I remember, a long time ago, Fox produced a series of videos that followed the manufacturing processes of its instruments. Perhaps you would consider producing an up-to-date version for those interested in how Fox makes it horns? I'd love to see that.
