Small correction; Israel did not take over 77% of the British mandate of Palestine as 100% of the British mandate of Palestine actually included Jordan as well. It was basically supposed to be Jordan for Arabs and Israel for Jews (including West Bank and Gaza) and somehow Arabs decided they want also half of Israel.

One correction. The Hebrew word "Shayetet" does not necessarily indicate a special force unit but a general term for a naval unit. The actual unit within the Israeli Navy that is responsible for Navy Seal like operations is Shayetet 13 , or Naval unit number 13.

Small thing to add, Yamam is probably Israel's most elite unit after that Matkal/S13. When Israel found the location of 2 and 3 hostages in Gaza which unit have they sent to get them? That's right Yamam. Also you can't just join the Yamam, you have to be an ex special forces guy to get in.

Excellent video mate! I would add that there is also Shayetet 7 - a submarine unit classified as an elite unit, and the YATLAM which are a special diving unit separate from Shayetet 13, but does work with them of course.

Question... In these top units, after the training, and service, do they continue "in reserve/miluim", or do they continue as officers. If they continue as officers after all that training, what kind of salaries do they earn (as in order to maintain operation-readiness they would need to be training regularly etc, not just the regular miluim of a month)?

great vid! shayetet means Flotilla. Shayetet 13 is a 13th Flotilla, a special unit of the Israeli Navy

06:16 "Shayetet" stand for "flotilla"- equivalent of 'wing' in the air force. Shayetet 7 is the submarines, 3 is the missile ship flotilla...

05:16 504 is a different unit. 504 started out as 154 after evolving from pre-independence intelligence organizations (focusing on humint). Sayeret Matkal only started out as 5th company of 154 (probably as a test run) before separating.

504 is not Matkal ;)

As an American, I view the entire IDF to be of "Elite" status because they are all combat trained in just ordinary life activities due to inherent and constant threats they face as a Nation. And even taking this video into its proper context and of these "extra" Elite formations, I think I am safe in saying that on a per-capita basis, the IDF had more "Elite" formations than any other military in the World that are battle proven and not just in name only. 👍👍❤💯💙🤍

I wonder what being in the Oz Brigade is like. A general purpose commando style unit that supports the conventional idf AND israeli sf seems quite interesting, especially when you consider that paratroopers already existed prior to the commando brigade's formation.
