As an independent local newspaper (one of the few left in the UK) we are very careful about this. It could also lead to them coming for Oliver - which no one wants either. I pointed out that had a person of color or a trans person been treated as you were, your government probably would have at least fined the restaurant to put it mildly. I understand how you feel, not wanting to make a big deal out of what happened; but you’ve been put in a position to speak up for others who may not look the way others think you should. God Bless you, I know how difficult a disease this is, I dated a man with this disease.

This is our dear friend and neighbour and personally are appalled at the treatment this restaurant gave him. The Met police do have powers to charge with a hate crime. Mostly at the moment they seem to be more than willing to charge and arrest people with lawful gender critical opinions who post comments on X. This restaurant staff surely need to be investigated, charged & fined as well as offering serious compensation for the humiliation & hurt caused to Oliver. I also think the restaurant should be named and shamed.
