Building out a Ram Promaster for full-time living 🤙 🚐
Hey! I'm Lauren Stone, nice to virtually meet you. I'm an author, a wife, a dog mom, traveler, outdoor lover, and all around happiness seeker.
After being diagnosed with eating disorders and bipolar, I worked my way through recovery and have built a life for myself that is focused on one thing: living full, authentically, loud, and through love.
I'm a bit of a generalist and depending on the season of my life, I'll dive everything I have into my latest passion. Right now, my husband, Jason, and I are currently building out a 2019 Ram Promaster with our goal date to hit the road in March of 2025.
Thanks for being here!

You rock
Glad to have kind people in this space 🫂
No one is trying to take that from u lol 😂
If you heard what I said in the video, if this makes you roll your eyes or bothers you, then my content is not for you.
♥️
Hi! New subscribers! We are about to remodel our van and found your channel as we are looking into how to build our new bed. Welcome to the vanlife community!
@@goslowdownnow amazing!! Thank you so much and super excited for you guys. And also, welcome to van life (unless you aren’t new then welcome back 😊). So glad you found me!
So I'm realizing the card for the Kreg pocket hole jig video doesn't always pop up so the link to the video is in the description (listen, I'm learning k?) 😂
That looks great!. Lovely wood look.
@@lloydwilliams2911 thank you!! Yeah we are super happy with the color and the way it turned out for sure. Who knew there were so many variations of floor color 😂
When you drill with the hole saw don't let the outerring drill thru to the other side, make the small inside bit go thru the wood stop flip it and do the other side by lining up the middle hole. Sorry if someone told you this already Good Luck.... Searching for my new van to build out now.
@@RogueBlackSheep that seriously is super helpful, we are learning all of this as we go so we are always happy to learn something to make our life easier 😂 what kind of van are you thinking?
I am pretty set on the Pro Master as well . I hear the 3500 is a better choice for the weight . Do you have any regrets with that choice ?
@ honestly not at all, so far it’s been great and fits all of our needs. Once we start driving, that could be a different story 😂
Those are pieces traditionally used for rafting in a house. 🏠
@@hellojasonstone literally learning something after the fact 😂
Another good video! Let’s gooooo! I feel like it’s good enough as it is now. What do you think? 💭
@@hellojasonstone so you think we can just go live in it now? Ok, you convinced me. Let’s goooooooo 🚐
Looks amazing Good job hope you had fun!❤❤❤
@@_HKid_-gd1rz we are having an absolute blast thank you! 💛
Also fully aware I spelled Kreg wrong 🙄 whoopsie daisy
Looks great. Goos job!
Thank you so much! I honestly wasn't sure what to expect but I'm really happy with the outcome!
Great to see it coming along and glad you guys are okay/safe.
Thank you so much for saying that, it really means a lot 🥹
@@hellolaurenstone - question again for you as I learn. why do folks not use sheetrock and mud/tape? Is it too fragile for the van environment vs the plywood? I'd think that mud/tape might make a cheaper/better/easier gap filler than wood filler but again.. no idea of pros/cons and looking to learn from your decisions.
@@patrickvanderhyde we chose birch plywood because of the long term durability. Between the movement of the vehicle to changing weather environments and moisture, this was a better option for us. And honestly, I don’t know what mud tape is but now that I’m seeing it, this would have been WAY easier 😭😂

Hard but well worth it work kudos
@@callieduval3000 seriously the best kind of hard and I am so glad I am choosing it. Thank you 🙏
Why didn't you put insulation in the roof/ceiling or the walls? It would help maintain the temperature better in the living space.
We actually did! As we put the cedar panels up we inserted the havelock wool. We didn’t put it up beforehand because we found this way to be easier
@@jimmcfall7769 and we did do the walls as well, may just not have shown in the video here but we have a full video on how we installed our walls and our ceiling which include the insulation
@@hellolaurenstone I didn't see it in the short here and I will check out the full videos on your channel. I'm a fairly new subscriber and haven't had time to watch much yet. Keep up the great work! 👍🏻

Thanks for the details on everything on the outside.. I've been wondering the decision process on some of this stuff so it helps a lot.

wow, that play-doh trick is awesome!
@@sinxyt6263 I know right?? Such a life, time, and headache saver 😅
Wow Lauren and Jason... the build continues and your work is paying off. Looking good. So many questions.. 1 - what/how did you hold those window frames in place? I didn't see you screw them into anything. They look great. 2 - plywood resting on the floor or do you have a small gap at the bottom? curious about noise/movement at the floor/wall junction. 3 - plex water pipe on the driver side back?? the red stuff? assuming this is for routing some future water tank. 4. - the big window - driver side.. did the van come with that in place? I'd like a window there that would tilt or slide open in that spot. Most importantly - Happy Anniversary and have a blast in Italy!! We visited Glacier NP over the long weekend - a must visit for your van some day.
@@patrickvanderhyde Glacier NP is gorgeous!! So glad you guys got to go, and thank you! We are super excited for our trip. Have been waking up at 4 AM to prepare for the time change 💤 So I’ll try to answer some of your questions here. 1. We used the furring strips across the top and bottom of the frame, Gorilla wood glue, and 1 inch brad nails connecting the furring strips to the frame itself. 2. The plywood for the most part is resting on the floor, but we are going to be tightly securing our floor against it and adding a trim so there shouldn’t be much movement there if any at all. 3. The red and black chords on the bottom were actually wiring that is going to connect to our car battery (I’m going to ask Jason to elaborate because I’m still learning some of the electrical stuff and don’t want to give the wrong information). 4. The window didn’t actually come with the van, we installed it ourselves. I genuinely wish I had more footage of this but I did make a RUclips short you can check out that gives a small run down of it
@@patrickvanderhyde ok so it’s what I originally thought, the red and black wires are going from the battery to a DC to DC charger which is going to allow us to use the car battery to charge our lithium batteries when the car is running.
Hi guys. Greetings from the UK Loving the videos and the way you explain everything in detail. Also loving the tattoos.. what donthe 3 interlocking triangles represent (if anything)? Cheers
So happy to have you here and that you're enjoying the journey as much as we are! And thank you 😊 The triangles represent me and 2 of my closest friends, we all got matching tattoos representing the 3 women intersecting at different points throughout our lives since high school (with the triangle also representing the divine power of the female).
@@hellolaurenstone that's awesome. I'm a late starter with tattoos, I had first one 18 months ago and have 4 now (I'm 54). I'm hoping to start van life soon as there's so much I want to see and do so I'm finding your build inspirational and helpful
@@Pootz1000 no such thing as a late start, only the right timing. 😊 and I hope these videos help in some way or at least continue inspiring you to go after what you want! 🚐
The mailman on Mister Rogers' Neighborhood was Mr. McFeely, who was played by David Newell. McFeely was Fred Rogers' middle name, which was taken from his mother's maiden name.
That's amazing! How in the world do you know all of that-are you a big fan!? When that mailman stopped by our house, I thought for sure he was going to come in and pay us a visit but he didn't! Such a bummer.
@@DVaccarelli1988 I absolutely love this, thank you for giving us better insight 💌
@@hellolaurenstone You're welcome!
@@hellojasonstone Yes, I used to watch Mister Rogers back when I was younger.
@@DVaccarelli1988 I mean, so did I-but I didn't have that sort of knowledge about it. Even watched the movie with Tom Hanks but it seems like you've got the insider scoop. Incredibly impressive.

@@hellojasonstone what’s yours is mine 😂
@@hellolaurenstone Okay, okay, fine. You win ... this time!
Looks great
@@livingasimplelife6186 thank you! We are pleasantly surprised with how it turned out 😊
Dumb question but how did you cut the Maxx Air fan trim too short? Wouldn’t it work as long as the edge goes beneath the surface of the wood? It doesn’t necessarily need to go all the way up to the base of the ceiling.
Not a dumb question at all because that is literally exactly what I thought. The issue was that there is about 2 (ish) inches that is exposed around the trim so it needs to be at least the length from where the frame starts to where the fan sits in the ceiling (if that makes sense).
@@hellolaurenstone absolutely makes sense! 👌🏻
At least I wasn’t alone in this thought 😅😅
@@hellolaurenstone building out a 40ft Bluebird bus right now. Cool to see you guys a bit ahead of me. Nice to watch others do it while we’re working on it!
@mutchler87 that is so exciting! Well hopefully we can make all the mistakes for you so you don’t have to 😅
The 24 hr suggestion is so the wood can climatize and have less risk of cracking.
That makes much more sense than my reasoning 😆thank you for clarifying that!
Good for you. Effort equals knowledge
@@jeffreywoolley9674 absolutely, just grateful to have this experience
Atleast you guys are building it out, ive got almost everything i need to build out my sprinter, but after installing the windows, ive just been enjoying it, sleeping on a cot and camping all over the place in it😂.. i think it's gonna end up being a winter project
@@Liimpy honestly sometimes I just wish we were at that part already haha
Lookin good, vans coming along too.. run your hole saw in reverse just before penetration, and it'll leave a nice smooth hole
@@Liimpy that is a super helpful tip thank you! 🙏
I plan on trying .y luck at building a van too. I like the idea that you are building it stringer, using the rivnuts, and making pocket joints for the connections. This gives me more ideas on how i will eventually do this. Did you guys cut and install the windows yourself? That is the part that scares me the most. My plan is to start purchasing the things i want in it over time, so the costs dont hit me at one time. Good video. Look forward to more.
@@stephenwilson5086 totally understand that! I think the cost and the cuts in the van were also my biggest fears too. We did do the windows by ourselves, I made a RUclips short about it but will be trying to put together a video for this, the downside is that I started my channel after that step so I don’t have a ton of footage but can still show what we did. And we have a budget spreadsheet that shows everything we’ve spent so far if your curious about it expenses: bit.ly/vanspending Glad you found my channel and hope you stick around!

Jason & Lauren - I'm enjoying the videos. questions -- what/where is the endpoint you are wiring the lights to? Fusebox? type of battery? did you consider lights that you could change the color? I see you chose warm/white based on the amazon link. Love watching you both learn and have such great teamwork and attitude.
@@patrickvanderhyde This comment seriously makes me SO happy! 😊 I’m really glad to hear you’re enjoying the videos. So let me answer a few of your questions: 1. The next point for the wiring of the lights will be the dimmer switch, which will lead to the fuse box (we’re going to do an electrical video once things come together) 2. Batteries are Lithium (brand is Lion 1300) amzn.to/3MppxjY 3.
