That can happen man. I shot a bear one time with a 300 wsm and hit is hard. Both sides of the trail looks like buckets of red paint poured out and the blood just completely stopped. We looked for hours and never saw another sign!
Nice video. Ya that stinks when that happens, but it happens. Don’t let it get ya down. Get back out there and go after another one. You will redeem your self
Thanks!
I thought this model had a aluminum floor?
Yes it does, it's 2 pieces of sheet aluminum with closed cell foam in the floor as required by coast guard.
Is the transom wood on this boat. I'm looking at buying one locally. Thanks for you experience with it
Yes the transom is wood sandwiched between aluminum. Some newer boats are all aluminum tubing but I'm going to say the vast majority of aluminum boats are a plywood/aluminum mix like mine. It's really not that big of a deal to replace, provided you have the tools or shop available. I have another video on my channel that shows the transom replacement and new motor install.
You might want to cover the bait with some logs. Keeps the small critters out of it The bears won’t have trouble moving them but leaving it open will have a lot of critters taking the bait. Good luck with your bear hunt!!
Hey thanks, I forgot to take some plywood in, found a bunch of bait so I'm headed back in tomorrow and to cover it up.
Hey! What do you use for pickerel lures? I just got a boat and heading that way to fish this weekend! Any tips? Thanks
Hey head to big cove there... it's all Lilly pads and about 2-4' of water... I like using the horny toad (frog), it's a soft plastic lure and the legs flail good and make decent noise... I just glide them over the Lilly pads, also rig it weedless so you don't get tangled in the pads. Once a strike does occur give it a solid second or 2 for the lure to get it in it's mouth good because a lot of time they only have the legs and on hookset it yanks it out of it's mouth. Also a ton of sunfish and perch there which can be fun, use a small 1/8 Oz jig head and a 2" soft plastic grub... they will hammer it... good luck!
Just turn your lites off for a couple seconds ,while stopped and it will get put your way.Tgey are blinded by the lites
I'll have to try that next time
Good find!
So an old dog can learn new tricks. All my life I thought aluminum transoms were one solid piece of aluminum.
Haha I wish, I'm sure there are boats that have been manufactured with aluminum trusses, which I would think would be the ultimate transom, never have to touch it... thanks for watching!
This year, 2024, your group is lucky enough to get 2 tags in zone 25 in New Brunswick. I have been watching a lot of videos on calling, I was just curious where you guys are using the cocall ? If so, we have been using the same call for the last few seasons and haven't had much luck pulling in bulls. I'm not sure if we are doing something wrong. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Great video ❤
We don't call very much.. maybe once or twice an hr.. if 1 is definitely coming we also stay quiet (ive blown a few hunts over calling). if they hang up a cow in heat whine does usually work but not crazy loud either... we used the cocall for the first time in 2023 and it does seem to be a really good call, but in years past we mouth call 80% of the time. Getting down in dark cool woods has been the trick the last few years.. we also hunt mostly low pressure areas in zone 12.
I also think the moose wind us more often than we think so being ultra conscious of the wind is very important if not the most important part of the hunt
Heck of a buck! Congrats! New sub here.
Thanks!
Dude you need to put more videos up of this, I guarantee that this could become a successful business extremely easily. Restomod cars are all the rage, why wouldn’t boats be too considering how much a modern one is? It looks incredible, most people doing work like this have no right to charge someone for it… you on the other hand after one build are ready for customers and will only get better as you get more complex projects. Please think about it man, you have a talent and there’s so many old rotting boats that could be brought back to life.
Hey thanks! I've had a few people tell me that haha it was a very lengthy project, learnt a lot, and I agree, there's a ton of old boats our there where the hull is in great shape like this one, but the wiring, floor, transom, everything is old and wore out. Thanks again, it's tempting to do another 1 next yr.
How much did they charge you for a half day? thanks.
$630, only because we were the only 2, we did it for convenience where it was the 2 of us there was no waiting around, plus where it's kind of the off season i got to reel in both fish, if there was 7 other ppl on the boat that would of sucked for a few because there was only 2 fish caught. That 630 dollars was 3 hours fishing, snorkeling for 1 hour, lunch at Cayos Blancos for 2 hrs to eat and check out the beach, all food and as many drinks as you can put down was included. When we were done it was nice we just hopped on the boat and left before everyone else was even loaded so the convenience was very nice. Crew was great, no complaints, just wish there was more fish to catch.
Thanks for this, Yeah, November to March are better months to fish there nothing worst than no live bait and reeling in cudas as the only bites.@@sprucetreeoutdoors3447
@@sprucetreeoutdoors3447 btw would they take credit card payment ?
I couldn’t imagine makin excuses up over that buck.. there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that buck! He’s a beauty!
Great looking moose. Unrelated, you ever have much issues with people bothering your crown land set ups? I’m new to New Brunswick and will only be hunting crown. I have a good collection of cameras that I’d love to be able to put out but leaving out in public worries me. I’ve always been able to hunt permission property in the past so it was never an issue.
No we don't post where we hunt like some people will put signs on the roads they hunt but that's just an invitation.. so we stay well off the beaten path and have had no issues... I hunt crown for deer as well and same thing, get far away from people You will have great success and no one will bother your stuff... most people stick to within 200 yards of a main road or trail so...
Thanks for the reply. I do plan on walking as far from a main trail or road as possible and only leave a small marker of some sort if absolutely needed. I have a few older cams that I’ll place first and see how it goes. I’ve watched your other videos about scouting and what to look for here in NB so that’s what I’ve been looking for with my map scouting hoping to get out this week. Love the videos, thanks for the tips. Happy hunting.
Start with streams, clear-cut edges and corners, beaver ponds or steep banks to force animals around... guaranteed u will find something... good luck!!
What calibers do you guys use up there?
Mostly 3006. This year was 3006 with 165gr game king hp. Previous years has been 270win with 130gr ttsx and 3006 with 200gr eldx and 165gr gmx.
I was privileged to go on a Black Bear Hunt in New Brunswick, Canada back in the late 1980's. We stayed at the Salmon Brook Fishing Camp on the Miramichi River, about 45 miles from Fredricton. It was the best trip of my life. The scenery was beautiful. The guides were great, and the people were very nice. I would like to visit again sometime.
It is a very scenic province in parts, and still good hunting in spots, the forest industry has decimated what used to be a world class whitetail location for huge bucks, moose have faired fairly well but the salmon are toast. Everything is stacked against them and now with a huge population of striped bass it doesn't help, but that striped bass fishery is also world class, especially in the spring time. I just hope people don't screw it up like they have screwed everything else up. There's still a ton of bears around and I hope more people hunt them. You should come up again, there's still some amazing sporting camps around that offer some amazing bear hunts, and we have Turkey now too!
Great video, loved the hats. Congrats guys!
Hey thanks! U guys need to get some videos going, lots of content there between all of ya!
Already can’t wait till next year !

Stop with the music!!! I've never heard that in the woods while I hunt. Otherwise thanks for sharing.
Thanks, I just might do that
man thats a bummer to say the least. you just may get one bigger.
Ya hopefully, I feel like I knew him for 7 yrs, every time I would sit I'd think is this the time he will show up, was more or less hunting on a dream and not getting things done. Lesson learned, sometimes it stings
You can always hook up with the girl that shot him, and maybe she would put him up on your wall .. Hahaaa !! Now you probably think being more aggressive would of been the way to go right .. Like a Beast !
We had some spots we didn't disturb because it was definitely heavy doe bedding, and when I missed him in 2019 he ran into 1 of those areas. After he did it put a few pieces together because we followed his tracks in the snow for half a km or so. Largest tracks I've ever followed, we always figured he was a 250lbs+ Deer for the last 3 years. Anyway, it was a hard situation and spot to hunt, he was a slick old buck but he definitely slipped up a few times and we failed to sieze those opportunities. There was also a few ppl coming in and hunting on top of us that didn't have permission so that pressured things, just when I though I had it good something would go wrong, I could of talked for an hr about it.
@@sprucetreeoutdoors3447 Was he leaving any sign, like big rubs, scrapes ? Were you able to find where he bedded up early in the season. You were mostly hunting over bait at the time when you did see him in daylight if I'm not mistaken ?
Ya mostly bait, I hunted some trails but only ever seen small bucks that way and lots of does, never could pin point where he was bedding on the regular but he did leave some huge scrapes and some good rub lines which I also hunted but the pressure from.others always ruined it by the second week the activity fell off hard
@@sprucetreeoutdoors3447 I assume this was the second week of riffle season (Bait Everywhere) ? Did you ever go really dig in where he might of been hiding after he got shot ? And do you believe another Buck has taken his area/spot ?
No because the whole area was clear-cut and I don't have permission to hunt the neighboring farm for Deer, only coyotes and its also being cut currently so I'm at a loss. I really believe he was living in people back yards because that's the only spot left with trees
A lot of good times chasing him that’s forsure
Yup that's for sure, crazy how long he lasted
Hey Ben you still got that depth chart of silver lake lol sry have to ask I can find one and dot have a depth finder....
I will find a link for ya
Nice NB Bucks ... Wondering if you find spruce to be the most used for licking branches in your area, or what do see as being their favorite ?
A lot of the times yes, but I tend to focus on thick spots around all sorts of waterways, tends to be the only spots not clear-cut lol so they naturally travel those spots because of the buffer/clear-cut edge.
@@sprucetreeoutdoors3447 Makes sense, fallowing water ways in cover next to food & bedding. So this is where you find most scrapes ? Any other type of licking branches other then spruce that they like to use ?
To be honest I can't say specifically any other species for a licking branch, my buddies and I are going to play around with some mock scrapes this year so I might have an answer for ya in 6 months. Mosty been a bait hunter so this new setting on sign and whatnot is definitely more fun, try out some things along the way and see what works.
@@sprucetreeoutdoors3447 Ya I hear that ... Setting up on sign, and not watching a bunch of fruits, is way more interesting and informative ! Mock Scrapes are definitely going to be a part of my set ups as well.
Sounds like you might be practicing a bit of Beast Style hunting ? I'm also from NB, and have jumped into this mobile hunting which is great.
Yesir, I actually watch a ton of beast videos and it's kind of relatable, I think if a fella works at it enough it can be a very effective method here in nb.
@@sprucetreeoutdoors3447 I agree .. I feel that in just the few years I've been at it, that there was more learned then in the past 40+ I've hunted !
Yup 100%. Just a matter of time is the way I look at it, put yourself in enough situations things will line up!
@@sprucetreeoutdoors3447Exactly .... How long have you been at this Beast Style hunting ? Are you finding and hunting Beds at all or just close to general bedding ?
Really only this past season, going to do it a lot more but I have found some buck beds and tried to set up on some, never had any luck but had some success with heavy trails, small bucks and does, but the big ones are more in the thick stuff when traveling I have figured out so I have a bunch of plans for 2023 should be a good season. How about you?
Zero baiting here in Maine
I'd be for a bait ban here, but that will never happen
@@sprucetreeoutdoors3447 You got that right, and it's really to bad. It would be great to be able to count on natural patterns & movement.
What a deer!
Shot him Oct 6th, field dressed 225lbs and gross scored 122"
Nice buck
Thanks, he's my personal best to date!
Nice buck!
Thanks!
i hunted crown land most of my life , then when i coulld afford it , i bought my first parcel of 84 acres and it was night and day difference. So when i moved back to NB 5 years ago i did the crown land thing and got so frusterated with Irving cuttting everywhere that i turned around and bought 240 acres. Theres something cool of being able to get a buck on crown land but man there are so many variables that you CANT control that on private land you can. So if someone can afford it , i would say 100% private is the way to go , p,lus you make money on appreciation of the land in the long run while having the pleasure to use it
Definitely, I have 200acres I've been planting apple trees, white and red oak, but I don't hunt it. It's a 2.5 hr drive and I have access to crown in 2 min from my house. But it is fun doing the habitat development, I know for sure there's some deer on my woodlot and 1 of these years I need to start hunting it some. (Young family+both work full time make it hard to get away.)
Come on down to Cape Cod to in June.
I bet that'd be a blast!
Do apples work late season? In ontario I only see alfalfa being used. Thank you.
Ya I'm sure they would but availability would be limited. For winter you reqlly can't go wrong with alfalfa, it's pretty 1 of the better things you could feed.
Congrats nice buck . Yup it sucks the same problems way to many baiting , around me on private land that I got permission to hunt some people just don't care.i think next season will hit south of the province
Thanks! Theres way more people baiting in the southern part of the provide cause there's waaaay more people lol... all I can say is scout scout and scout some more. Good luck!
Nice bull congrats on the successful hunt!
Hey thanks! It was a great time. Keep the cool pics rolling man, you take some really good ones 👍
@@sprucetreeoutdoors3447 thanks man al the best in 2023!
Do they do anything with the tops and limbs?
No we just process what we can and the rest stays on the ground. There's no merchantable wood left though, it's pretty efficient
hey man im from the moncton area but we hunt in sackville area. this is not particularly about whitetail but about GeoNB, so i just started usng it and im not sure how to find publuc land on it. could you explain it as you are one of the only nb hunter i found on here. thanks
Yes, when on geonb, use the topo basemap layer. Theres a light green shade that shows crown land and everything else is either private or freehold. I know down towards Sackville there is a huge jdi freehold piece that starts at gaytons pit just outside memramcook and it holds some critters for sure. Let me know if u need anything else.

@@sprucetreeoutdoors3447 good luck,
Hey man i hunt in Central NB. Had bucks hitting my apples up until last week. Do you use a bleat and grunt call even when hunting over apples? Any other tips to give? Never hunted big game before. Thanks
No calls over bait, tried doe in heat scent last yr on nov17th, it may or may not have helped but what I do know is a big buck may daylight the last week or 2 over an unhunted baited situation. I also look for trails where they cross streams or go around bogs, and the edge of clear-cuts, just something that forces them to pass by which also helps you setup on proper wind direction and thermals.
I'll also say the most important thing is don't over hunt 1 stand, try and have 2 or 3 options at least 3kms away from 1 another if you're baiting at every spot. 1 bait but having different standocstikns for that 1 bait site is also a good idea.
@@sprucetreeoutdoors3447 i appreciate the reply brother ! Bait site is Plan A! Plan B is scout and call. Goodluck this year
You are welcome! Good luck!
Congratulations. Trophy buck for sure.
Thanks!
you ever try to hunt over red oak acorns in nb? im in southern nb as well and find my big bucks like to shift and leave once they shed vevlet
Yes, I have some cams setup near some red oak this year and I have noticed an increase in activity around them. Seems like a decent acorn crop this yr so there's no doubt they are hitting them, just have to wait 3 more weeks for bow season and they may not be on them as much by then. I subscribed to your channel too, I try and subscribe to as many local people as possible, it's nice to see local content and hopefully it builds the numbers better!
I do as well, I have cameras over apples, acorns and trails. Im after a certain buck and trying to find them. Acorns are having the most action right now and bears are taking over the apple piles. Im hopeful for opening week of bow season
Have you tried putting road salt on your apples, I've had limited success doing that to deter the bears, they still eat some but maybe not as much. I used to bait early for bow season and actually killed my 2014 buck that way, he was consistently coming every evening and I arrowed him second day of the season. Other than that, bears have been and always will be an issue at bait sites. I'm trying to get away from that method, I have burnt out a lot of spots by bait hunting, the old does are so sharp, they start checking trees when they come in if they can't scent check it. I will say, baiting is highly effective later on and for gathering inventory of what's around, but I have also had mature bucks not come in, but get a pic of them circling or seeing their tracks in the snow. Good luck this season, hope u shoot a big one. I've been after 1 for 5 yrs now, missed him in 2019, so hopefully his story will come to an end in a month or so lol. Cheers!!
@@sprucetreeoutdoors3447 i agree with what your saying. Bears are horrible for pushing deer off bait. Im trying to set stands on trails and acorns. I run cameras on minerals all spring summer and fall but it seems once the deer shed their velvet they shift and move to a new area. Ive never solely focused on acorns but this year im going that route. Bears keep pushing my deer out of the area and im forever moving spots. Hope you have some luck this season.
red acorns are ok ,,but white acorns is gold")...i bought 240 acres and my north part of my land touches crown land so it's a nice setup,,but we have red acorns around my area and they do hit it occasionally but if you can find white oak ,,,then that is gold,, they much much prefer the acorns of white oak compared ,,, but its to find the dam things heheh
What a hog!! One to be proud of for sure. Cheers from a fellow NBer keep it up!
