    Agree with all your wisdom on this subject. The thoughtful design of the K9 Cockpit is the protection. I'd add that my sturdy welded metal panniers, much like you have, are another layer of safety buffer for any mishap. I ride with them on with Apollo, even if I have no articles to carry. I've considered getting an (admittedly) "novelty" dog helmet only if to short circuit the occasional vector of criticism I get from uninformed passers-by as we mount/dismount, which is "why doesn't he have a helmet?" I've tried telling them that the rig is the protection and the only available dog helmets are essentially useless toys, but in such cases they don't like that answer. But this bold line of questioning comes up seldom enough I can do without a "show piece" for them.

    We’ve used our rainfly once so far and I was so impressed by the thickness and quality of the material, given how small it packs up. I keep it stored behind me where Jess keeps the bed roll. So if you go down, the dog stays on the bike right?

    • @RUFFLYgear
      @RUFFLYgear 7 месяцев назад

      Yes, that's right. Our testing and experience with get-offs demonstrates that it is much safer to have the dog strapped into a padded, cushioned and protective Cockpit. Even if the dog manages to leap out and land on their feet, they might be leaping into a dangerous traffic situation. Much better to be strapped into the Cockpit and then wait for the rider to release them once the situation is under control.

    My dog has about 80k miles riding in a box I built from a tool box. She mostly sits up in it but on long trips she'll lay down and go to sleep It is very padded with high sides. She's a 90 lb 17 year old pitbull and she would rather go for a ride then go walk in the park.

      We build your Cockpit to accommodate your specific dog. The Nano generally supports dogs 1-20lb, the Mini for 20-45lb, the Standard for 45-85lb, and the Large goes up from there. To date the largest dogs we've accommodated are around 110-120lb and we have a 2-pup Cockpit carrying two 65lb dogs.

    Can you please show in the video how do you mount and remove the cockpit? Is it a quick release system?

    • @RUFFLYgear
      @RUFFLYgear 10 месяцев назад

      Each Cockpit mounting is different and unique to the motorcycle make-model and to any aftermarket accessories the rider has. For most touring and adventure bikes, the mounting involves several bolts or U-bolts to the luggage rack. For cruiser bikes, we usually build brackets down to the bolts along the sides of the rear wheel hub. We don't make a quick-release system but many Harley, Indian, and other riders have us mount their Cockpit to the manufacturer's quick-release luggage rack system so that they can install and remove the Cockpit as a quick-release and that works very well.

    Nc750x for husky 48.8kg 5"5 height?

    • @RUFFLYgear
      @RUFFLYgear 10 месяцев назад

      A husky of that size is probably on the upper end of the Standard Cockpit or possible in the Large size. You can visualize the fit by using this diagram: www.goruffly.com/product/k9-moto-cockpit/#sizes In terms of mounting to the NC750X, we'd probably want a sturdy aftermarket luggage rack to be installed because that bike is fairly naked in the rear but many of the luggage racks mount to multiple points. In addition, we make a front hinge so that you can access the tank under the passenger seat.

    • @RUFFLYgear
      @RUFFLYgear 11 месяцев назад

      We don't make our own quick-release system because we work with too many different brands and we're leery about trusting your dog's safety to a quick-release. However, many many Harley, Indian, and other riders have us mount their Cockpit to the quick-release systems that those manufacturers make and it works incredibly well.

    So which one is better 1 up or 2 up?

    • @RUFFLYgear
      @RUFFLYgear 11 месяцев назад

      1-up plus pup is going to be a much more natural ride because the dog's weight is right over the passenger seat the way the motorcycle was designed to carry it.

    What if I want to ride with a pillion as well sometimes so I want my carrier to be placed where top boxes are instead of blocking the pillion seat by being over it? Will that reduce riding experience and aerodynamics?

    • @RUFFLYgear
      @RUFFLYgear 10 месяцев назад

      We have built 2-Up+Pup Cockpit configurations for multiple riders. It will certainly impact the ride dynamic more than the normal 1-Up+Pup setup. Many larger adventure and touring bikes can support the 2up setup just fine. Here's a video about that: www.goruffly.com/video/can-i-ride-with-my-dog-in-the-2-up-position/

    What’s your view on a box or cage type carrier for a breed like beagle? They are smaller but more hyperactive and less calm than a GSD. So do you suggest an open harnessed carrier for an energetic beagle too or a cage type design?

    • @RUFFLYgear
      @RUFFLYgear 11 месяцев назад

      We have put all different breeds, including beagles, in the Cockpit. They are harnessed in so even a very active dog will submit to the restraints and lay down calmly. We don't like a cage or box style carrier in any situation because the dog can strike the sides during aggressive riding or in a crash situation.

  • @oneandahalfmenn
    @oneandahalfmenn 11 месяцев назад

    What is your view about a box or a cage shaped carrier for a beagle in terms of aerodynamics? As they are hyperactive breeds and less calm as compared to GSDs. Even top boxes are square so is it a good idea?

    • @RUFFLYgear
      @RUFFLYgear 11 месяцев назад

      We don't like box or cage designs for any dogs in any situation. The box or cage generally puts hard parts in close contact with the dog, which can strike against those hard parts in a crash situation. Padded roll bars is always our preferred design for all size and breed dogs.
