Very interesting to see the market (supply and demand) develop! Process seems logical - get some basic infrastructure in place - replace grey hydrogen with green - expand upon the infrastructure you are building Binding hydrogen in ammonia is wildly more energy efficient than liquid hydrogen. Chilling hydrogen to a liquid seems to take about 40% of the energy contained in the hydrogen. The other nice thing about ammonia is the current market for ammonia is WAY bigger than the market for hydrogen. There is a ton of infrastructure already in place. Ammonia is used all over the place, stored, shipped, etc. People have training, etc. I'm not entirely convinced about cracking. There are some existing hydrogen applications but looking out into the future the biggest use case for hydrogen is fuel but ammonia is actually a better fuel (energy dense, low pressure, commercially available motors and turbines)

Yes. There is tons of green energy but green energy does not pair perfectly with grid demands. The system needs a buffer and hydrogen is an excellent solution. The secondary matching problem is geography, e.g. NYC is not the ideal green site. Hydrogen or ammonia allows you to overcome the time and geography matching challenges.

It will be clear to all that massive investment in SMRs will allow us to completely sheds our reliance on fossil fuels (FFs) and convert to a pollution-free world completely powered by SMRs for pollution-free electricity and the manufacture of nuclear enabled hydrogen (NEH) to eliminate FF use in industry, transport, etc.. I agree hydrogen will be an essential part of meeting our net zero objectives. However, please, please be aware that blue hydrogen will have a bigger impact on greenhouse gas emissions than burning natural gas has! Carbon capture simply makes no sense. Fugitive methane emissions cannot be avoided with any form of gas extraction. The only sensible way to produce hydrogen is via electrolysis (using renewably generated electricity). Green hydrogen really does have zero emissions.
