What area was this?
@@Ben_porter_ - the blackfish were northern end of LBI, the back bays of LBI by lighthouse in the boat. The last chunk of the vid was the Long Branch surf. The beach doesn’t matter, they will all produce like that. What does matter is getting on the beach early, making your first cast 45 minutes BEFORE sunrise, targeting the rips and white water while walking the beach. 🔱

Fun Fact: The SP Minnow is so effective that some of the "more serious" surfcasters don't use it due to the lack of challenge.

@@MichelleWettstein - all those bass are caught in the Monmouth/Long Branch area of beaches in Northern NJ. But consider this: Yes there are rocks there and decent beach structure but I picked that spot at random for the simple reason that there is easy parking and bathrooms for the Wifey! 😳 Any stretch of beach from Sandy Hook to Island Beach will produce similarly if fished correctly.

@@carpcounty - know, I let them hang since that gets the most bites. Looks like an octopus on my hook. I only bait fish like that in the spring.

@@jasonwilk5539 they probably are :) does tide matter for the twilight am surf fishing for stripers? Going to try it next 2 mornings (somewhere sea bright to Belmar) any spots would be greatly appreciated
@@gabrielM1111 - tide does not matter. Lower tides are actually better due to more white water and you can see exactly where the bass should be. Single most important thing is making your first cast at least 45 minutes BEFORE sunrise. In the summer, I will almost never get anything on the SP, once the sun is visible.
@@gabrielM1111- I fish Long Branch but the exact spot doesn’t matter. All beaches will produce. Would do similar in Sea Bright, Asbury, Belmar etc. You want to pick a spot with white water and rock piles.
I've caught stripes all day long with the sp minnow so what you are saying is not always true
@@steelhead7704 - correct and I LOVE those days! 😎🎣 Question for you: What area do you fish? I fish the northern beaches of Jersey and what I said is the general pattern, especially in the summer. But when I do my Montauk weekend every summer, I am pleasantly surprised by the bass hitting the SP’s throughout the day. This was July with a bright sun and the bass were hitting them at high noon and that’s happened more than once for me there!

What weight bank sinkers, and what test braid were you using on the Dauntless party boat?
@@hugomatado2260 - I use 30lb braid and I use an 8oz round sinker
Dogfish are the best during the summer. They are the dog in the dog days of summer. My son and I enjoyed some 43" - 46" dogfish yesterday at North Beach. Our arms are shot. They also provide the practice for dunking bait for striper season. Tight lines.
@@thomaslawrence3232 - the cool thing about dogfish is that to the novice or very casual fishermen, they are a blast to catch and make the evening memorable!
It has been TOUGH out there, good to see you getting in on some Ling on the boat though!

Give the Victoria Marie out of Belmar a try. Smaller boat (31 ft). Holds six. You can walk on if there is the space. It goes out every day. $150 per person. Captain Greg is the best. Tight lines.

I finally got my blue at Sandy Hook. It looked like Kate Moss (the young one). The fish finder rig did the trick. I underestimated the amount of fresh bunker I needed. Blew through three in less than an hour. I used 80' mono leader. Thanks for help. Tight lines.
Congrats Tom! 😎🎣 I fish two surf rods with fresh bunker on one and fresh clam on the other. With the smaller clams, I put two full clam globs on the hook. With the smaller bunker, I use the head piece and the tail piece, cutting off the tail fin, so one bunker is two baits. For the average dawn or dusk session, I easily go through a dozen clams in shell and 10 fresh bunker. Yes I spend more money on bait then people do on food, but I also catch a bunch of fish every time out! 🔱
