Hohenwerfen castle is one of my favorite castle in Austria, about 45 minute train ride from Salzburg. The train ride from Salzburg to Werfen alone is worth the visit with beautiful views of the Austrian Alps. Hohenwerfen is a beautiful castle with really nice beer garden in main square of the castle. A great place to grab a beer with your favorite travel partner and enjoy the views of the mountains. They do put on a pretty spectacular show with eagles, hawks and other birds of prey and which is included into the price of ticket to visit the castle which was about 16 euros. Hofenwerfen is a great day trip from Salzburg and cant recommend a visit enough. And for movie fans this where they filmed "Where Eagles Dare".
