Installing Starlink Radios for 3G Sunset
In this video I discuss mounting locations, minimum cell service (bars), power requirements and other general considerations when updating a cell radio or installing one for the first time.
It’s always a good practice to test out your signal strength prior to mounting the radio. Keep a healthy amount of skepticism in mind when mounting below ground and in properties with lots of woods, especially in winter when the leaves are off the trees. Also, stay clear if ductwork, heavy machinery, fans or anything that may produce RFI. Use common sense - don’t mount it near or under water pipes if you can help it!

Wiring a Starlink Radio to a Notifier SFP-5UD
Просмотров 1,2 тыс.2 года назад
Starlink radios are one of the most common cellular communicators for fire alarms today. Here I show you how to connect to a conventional fire alarm panel using the alarm, trouble, and supervisory relays on the panel’s main board. Sometimes Notifier panels don’t seem to like the dial tone that the radio puts out. At least that happened on a recent fire warden install for me. So we’re using the...
False alarm - water leaking onto duct detector test switches
Просмотров 1462 года назад
A roof leak caused water to flow down our conduit and on top of two duct detector test stations. When I removed the first one, I found water inside and began to dry it out. Before putting it back together, I noticed some water stains on the back of the circuit board. I’ll recommend they replace this test station after they fix the leak. There l is a chance it might be ok, but it’s better to rep...
How to test NAC current with a multimeter
Просмотров 6 тыс.2 года назад
Need to test current for a horn strobe circuit? Always make sure your meter is capable of doing this first, and make sure your leads are in the proper spot before testing. Then make sure your meter is set to the DC amps setting. The positive meter lead goes to your load side coming back to the panel on the positive wire (usually red). Put your negative lead on the positive terminal of the panel...
How not to mount a duct detector
Просмотров 552 года назад
When installing a duct detector, it’s important to make sure that the sampling tube and the exhaust port are in line with the airflow. The sampling tube should be first and the holes must face the flow of air. Generally speaking your duct detector housing will be parallel with the length of the ductwork. Also never strap any kind of wiring to Allthread or where sharp edges will cut the jacket.
How to Properly Test Fire Alarm Batteries
Просмотров 10 тыс.2 года назад
In this video I show how to load test fire panel batteries. This particular panel is a Notifier NFS2-640 which had its batteries fail the past two years. The charger had not been turned on in the program after the panel was replaced so the batteries just sat there without a charge. It’s important to test the charging voltage, the voltage without the charging circuit, and load test them. As in t...

I have a Fire Lite MS-10UD-7, which when the alarm is activated, NACs show flat zero. What is the problem? If the panel is reset and activated right away afterward, it sounds. I put the panel in walktest one day, and I think that might be something. Thanks.

Walktest will only send a pulse of voltage out, then shut off. I would meter it with the NACs sounding normally. You shouldn't see anything below 16 volts, but it will probably dance between 24 - 18 volts dc, assuming you have it programmed for Temporal 3 (I don't recall the NAC programming options for a FL at the moment, if any at all).

I completely remove all wiring and test each battery individually, not sure about the jumper being left on

Thank you been a year since I had to test any batteries and forgot the procedure lmao. I’m a fire suppression guy so I hate fire alarms and they hate me Hahaha.
