Dogs ar much smarter than most people know

I never heard of this breed until I moved to MS. Found out my shelter pup is 50% Catahoula and 50% Foxhound. After Trapper, I could see me getting a Catahoula proper. He's such a smart dog. They're so pretty and cool. They have a lot of HOUND qualities without being one. No wonder they mixed so well with the foxhound. Ironically, according to Embark, my other shelter pup, has a trace of Catahoula in her as well. She's mostly Dutch/Mal and Black Lab.

I have a Catahoula and he is the quietest dog I've ever had. My kids and I had to teach him to bark when someone knocked on our door. We even had barking practice and had friends come over and knock on the door and we'd start barking until he caught on. We even got him to howl at he train when it went past our house. 🐶 And I'm in love with your Fender.....💖

My Catahoula just died to a bladder infection. Just looking at this dog and their spots brings tears to my eyes. Your dog is so beautiful.

My Merlin is under 6 months, he plays like this. His favorite toy is any pair of my shoes. He will NOT go outside without at least a pair of my shoes in his mouth, and I mean BOTH shoes at once. If I've hidden all the shoes, he opts for a coat, hat, gloves, paper, a sponge, you name it, he can not go outside with an empty mouth! He has recently found his Growl. He loves Pull. What does he pull? His leash he's on or his cable he's on. And he'll even play by himself, b/c he's a weirdo!

My Merlin is just under 6 months. He sounds just like this, and has the DEEPEST bark I have ever heard. He only uses it 1st thing in the morning, b4 breakfast, really doesn't bark much other than that. But he has perfected what I can only call 2 Voices at Once. One is the whining, grumbling, escalations she is doing here, at the SAME time, under those sounds, he will do a more rapid, warbling. It sounds like a human talking. When I 1st was hearing it, I thought for sure, someone else had to be nearby, but it was all Merlin. I really have to get him going to hear it, he's a Super Showboat.
