Wet wood is a lot heaveir too
Good lessons here Greg.
Great work Greg. I need to do more endgrain natural/live edge pieces. BTW, I carry Parfix now. Only have the 2oz bottles right now, but look to expand soon.
That’s good to know!
Can you tell me again the name of that CA glue. And where to find it. I like the bowl and the video and would like, to try one for myself.
Parfix 3408, Mark Sillay Woodturning is who I get it from! Thanks for watching!
Great advice. If sap is coming out whilst you turn on lathe...is that too wet?
No, easy to turn and less sanding dust! You let it dry after you turn it and then flatten the bottom!
Great video. Thank you for sharing.
Very educational. Thank you sir. 😁
Thanks
That's the ornament I was looking for, thanks guy!
What is your recommendation for carbide tools?
I use Easy Wood
Tool height for carbides seems to work better if below centerline.
Thank you, that was a great explanation.
Good advice.
could you have used your Japanese saw to cut the sides off the cross?
Yes, especially a flush cut saw!
Good move brother
Thanks
Very nice vase! I can watch you work shaping the wood all day long - it looks like magic to me!
Great Video
Thanks
i love the way you do your video you talk and the music is very soft does not over power the video like so many do
Thanks and thanks for watching!
Nice job. I’ve missed seeing you.
Thanks Doug, I have things getting in the way on Wednesday nights.
Great content sir
Thanks
Thanks for this idea Bray, just turned one and love how it looks. Also thanks again for the microwave drying idea, has been working for me so far. Not 100%, but much better success.
Awesome
I like red cedar, but it can move even when it is dry.
Yes it can but turning the end grain doesn’t move much at all!
hi thank you for the video its great i love green wood turning only done peg dolls as thats the only timber i had a neighbour gave me a nice branch he thinks its spruce it is very very wet i rough turned a nut cracker hat head body from one piece left it over night and today it had cracked from the centre all the way out to the edge what can i do to prevent this here in the uk its is very damp
I have a video on breaking down the log, that will help. You have got to remove the pith!
Hey Bray, I'm new to wood turning and recently bought a trailer load of Paper Birch for an amazing price that was cut down three days prior. I've loved turning it, I'm making snowmen to give to my family. They are coming out great, and I'm using a Forster bit on my drill press to give them a slot for a tea candle. My issue is that after a few days, they start cracking, especially along the brim of the hat. I'm hoping you can give me some advice on how to stop this from happening. Hearing you talk about how great wet wood is gave me hope that I didn't have to wait a year for this

I have made several smaller silk flower vases in Cedar- a little poly and they are Gorgeous!
You didn't say what angle was on the leg of the vari-grind jig
Nicely done
Thanks
Hİ BRAY 👋👍👌
Thanks for watching!
Great job with this wet wood. Glad to see you talk about grain direction. Seeing loads of tear out due to cutting in the wrong direction. Going to be a nice bowl when dry and finish turned. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Doug!
Well done Greg. Rit dye does a great job of coloring wood. I like your idea of the “nest” for the eggs. Look forward to seeing the follow up video.
Thanks, great demo Wednesday!!!
I made some twig pots out of Malberry that I cut down in the fall. A couple of the split a week after I finished them. Any idea how I can stop that from happening?
Coat with a sealer after turning!
What a gem of a channel! I was looking to buy a lathe and this was most of the info I needed. Thanks for the great content and info!
Thanks and be safe.
Great video! I'm making a hollowed egg birdhouse right now & having a coffee & watching your videos buddya
Thanks for watching!
Well it’s a little late for Christmas but I made a bell from a branch. Thank you for your video.
Never late for Christmas! Thanks
The vase turned out great! You gave me some more good ideas I need to try out. Keep up the awesome videos, love the home shop feel of them.
Thanks
Nicely done Greg.
Thanks
Just found some old wood from sometime in the 1940's. I'm relatively new to turning and I was excited to make a bowl from this old wood. Oh man...talk about tough and messy. Lots of rough spots so far, easy to get a chip if you are not careful. Not at all what I expected. For some reason, I thought it would be easier. Anyway, just subbed and determined to finish this bowl.
Keep tools sharp helps in tear out!
Thank you for showing us how to sharpen your tools. I am new to turning. I really enjoy your videos.
Thanks be safe
Pretty snazzy snowman Greg
Thanks
Neat snowman Greg! I like it! And that rubber twig idea is pretty cool. Ive had a few with real twigs, and no matter how careful you are, theyre gonna get broken eventually!
Thanks
Nice work, thanks for sharing. Full View and Like 👍🏆
Thanks for watching!
Looks great Greg!
Thanks Donnie
Good job Greg!
Thanks
Thanks
This looks fun! I will have to try this for the holidays.
Very nice. I’ve turned one but got the proportion of the bead on the bottom wrong. I’ll probably make them with out a bead. This looks great Greg. Good to see you on again.
Thanks
Greg, sure did enjoy seeing your presentation earlier tonight at Bluegrass wood turners. And thanks for turning (pun intended) me onto your videos too. This is the first one I’ve seen but scanning over the others they all look extremely practical.
Ever have questions let me know!
Hey Greg. I tried to make one of these but I cannot get the wood centered on the lathe. How do you find the center on something like this? Mine is off center even though I used a center finder. Thank Jim
I get as close as I can, doesn’t matter on a fistic piece.
Hey Bray, i love your videos alot, im a woodshop teacher and most times that I need information about wood in general most pages and videos just tells you - do this and this and that and boom its done without really explaining anything at all, you explane it so that anyone can understand it, keep up the good work! :)
Thanks, ever any questions get ahold of me through my website brayswoodworking.com
Nice Santa. Nothing like a warm shop on a cold day. Thank you for sharing? From a woodworker aspiring to transition retirement into a small part time business. May I ask how you price your work?
Very good video and it looks nice
Thanks
Hey Greg, I have @ 8- cedar posts & was wondering if u could use any in your works. Next time at Dave & Sue's u can check them out. Approx 8' x10-12".
Sounds great
Another great project! Now I need to get out on the lathe and make some of those.
