I 100% agree with you, Adwoa. The other thing might be that you don't look approachable. It's similar being put together, but not the same. You know, some people have an attitude that tells you they don't want to be approached. They don't want to talk to others. One more reason that comes to my mind is the culture. I live in a country where strangers rarely talk to each other. The streets are quiet. We don't walk around loving other people's clothes and makeup. Even smiling at a stranger feels weird. Nobody but a close friend or a family member will ever compliment you here.

Dear Adwoa, what a brilliant video. I love how you addressed this issue. I agree with you 100%. I must admit I do wear perfumes mainly for myself. I could never go a day without wearing perfume. And I am an over sprayer. I do of course try and wear perfume that is suitable for wherever I am going to be. I will try and restrain from over spraying ( or too loud perfumes) if I am going somewhere where I feel someone may be sensitive to strong perfumes etc. Due to having Long Covid and chronic ill health I do not go out much the way I used to do, so of course I can wear perfumes for myself. I am lucky that Gerry does not dislike any of the perfumes I am wearing but even if he hated one , I would wear it when he is not there and wear the perfumes he likes on me all other days. I love that you are so honest as our appearance is something that is always judged on.I think ensuring we look our best is not only important because when people see us, they will judge us on our appearance but because we all feel better when we do look 'put together' . I know ( sadly when wearing a mask this is not something I can do) I always feel better as soon as I put lipstick or lip gloss or on, just that alone ( as far as make up is concerned ) already makes me feel better. I admit that I do not wear perfume so I get compliments but like anyone else when I do get compliments it is lovely. Being of a 'mature' age ( although the inner teenager who gets passionate about life and is excited to learn & do new things) I also have had to come to term with the fact that once you reach a certain age, you become more invisible. In my younger days when I was modelling I would always get a lot of attention but as we get into the 'wiser mature woman' age we are seen differently. I also feel the way we act is also something very important as you can look stunning but people will not remember you if you were not kind and did not listen to people or were impolite. As you said everyone has so much on their mind when you go out and mingle and talk to people. Frag Heads are possibly the only people that actually will try and smell other perfumes on guests or take notice , I certainly do. They may not be noticing your perfume at all, but if you do connect with people, whether it is due to making proper eye contact and listening to them speak and showing you care, that will make an impact and then someone may lean closer and actually take notice of your perfume. The biggest reaction I had ever had , was wearing a Middle Eastern perfume oil for the first time, I had put it on hours ago and could still smell it when I moved but it was not a beast scent or loud but I had to go to the doctor surgery to get something and ended up having to get an injection and suddenly there were all these nurses following me. That day I was overwhelmed by compliments and I feel one of the reasons was that it smelled different from other perfumes and even though when I mentioned it was a Middle Eastern perfume oil, some said they had bought a ME perfume , none had smelled this one and everyone asked me about it and said they followed the scent as they wanted to know who smelled so divine ( their words). It was one of the loveliest times ever at the clinic as I got to speak with all the nurses and every time I now go for an appointment they come to ' smell ' what scent I am wearing and most times I always end up getting compliments. But I truly did not wear the perfume that day for others or for compliments but for myself. I felt unwell and needed a lift and perfume always makes me feel better. I always receive compliments from my neighbours and a lady told me i know when you use the elevator, i feel your beautiful perfumes😅😅😅😅 and from my son daycare ! I also like to give them, usually they boost confidence ! ❤❤❤

I really don't care if I don't get compliments from other people about what I wear because I'm confident within myself that I don't need people to tell me they like what I wear 😂😂

I Only get compliments from men from my fragrances, never a woman, well sporadically...The women just look around i know they're smelling me, is the reason.

I always get compliments whether it's on how I'm dressed, skin, hair, fragrance, etc. But I always give compliments I've actually made it a habit because I want to put a smile on others faces, if only for a moment. You attract what you put out in the universe.

I share my office space with my cousin and he's also a fragrance lover. We both know we smell good individually. I don't get compliments from him as such. One day, I layered two uncommon fragrances together ( very light in my own opinion) and he walked into the office and said "damn, you smell really good". I was really surprised because it means sometimes, just a little goes a long way.

I completely agree with your thoughts, Adwoa! Sometimes, persons might be wearing the most beautiful fragrance but their attitude is so awful that it distracts from the fragrance and everything about them just seems off-putting.

For me, I know its because I'm not out in the public much (Also, I dont overspray. For me, more than 3 sprays is usually too much, I do tend to be sensitive to fragrances, at least on myself.). 🤷‍♀️😂 I even work from home. I always smell good though. I wear fragrances daily, because I love smelling them. ❤ My last complimented one was Afnan's Mystique Bouquet. And the one before that was a BR540 dupe. 😄

Ok, my Caramel Oud came in today…let me say that it has zero Oud or fecal notes to my nose. It has a chocolate smell and a prominent peach note that turns sour on my skin and that’s the reason why I don’t like it 😂 all let it mature and maybe it will shine in colder weather

In the 80's/90's there was an advert for Impulse body spray on tv here in the UK where a man ran after a woman because of her scent and gave her a bunch of flowers. When I was in my 20s that happened to me.. I was walking through the local market and a man dashed out and gave me a bunch of flowers and his number 😄 I ended up going out on a few dates but he wasnt the one for me... It was a fun thing to happen though and as I'd just been dumped after a 7yr relationship, it was good for my confidence. I've had a few compliments over the years since (as an oversprayer and then some), in supermarkets and the like but the 'Impulse effect' occasion was the best 😄

I add one. The main focus should not to be getting complimented. Having Charisma and the rest will follow. Getting smiles, people recognize you, start talking to you. Then you have opened the doors for more.

I will get compliments with Yara but hardly from khamrah from the usual people . Khamrah compliments come from fragrance enthisiasts. I spray all over and alot......love it

💯 In my experience a fresh and sweet profile frequently gets compliments…proximity is also a factor if you’re not an oversprayer. A friendly face also invite people to comment 😊

How many sprays are adequate to spray ?

Underspraying is a crime to me😂 unless you are sensitive to scents in general. I have to get my money's worth by getting the perfume to work. Otherwise, there is no point. Jist slap on some bodylotion and be on your. I carry my decants/bottles along. If you are turning into a faint skin scent, you are getting reapplied until we get home. Layering your fragrances will also get it out of the uncommon zone. Test some layering combos and see how inventive you can be.

I think some fragrances are too heavy on spice or florals. Those are the ones that bug me, but everyone's nose is different

I sometimes wonder about this. I think a lot of times it might depend on the culture where you are. For example I’m in the USA, and here I’d say it’s considered very personal to comment on someone’s fragrance, especially if they are opposite sex. So they may notice and like it (or not) without saying anything. My husband once noticed that someone commented on my scent, but he overheard them saying it to their friend, they didn’t say it to me directly. For the most part, the compliments I’ve gotten are from people I know well already. So I don’t take it personally! I love my fragrances and smelling good, so I wear them for me and nobody else. I genuinely enjoy them. They feel like the finishing touch to my outfits!

I always think I'm mad because I get get a fragrance to last for a month. Then I remember I'm an over sprayer 😂😂😂😂
