UGLY DUCKLING SULPHER SPINNER

Sorry for quality trying new video programs. This is a highly visable fly very good at dusk as an UP fly on a two fly rig and also catches many nice "sulpher spinner eaters" as well. Easy to tie and floats great.
PITA

Accurate imitation of a "stuck in the shuck" mayfly. A sulpher shown here but will work for all mayflies.
Puff Daddy Mayfly Imitation.

Puff Daddy Mayfly Imitation. The fly moves and skates like a natural trying to get off of the water. A simple method to add the CDC wings to smaller mayflies.
Ducks DOA Mayfly
Просмотров 6328 лет назад
This video contains the instructions for making a dun mayfly that has died or is dying before it can fly away. The fly floats flush in the surface film and presents the silhouette of a curved body and wings in the surface film. Great fly for a medium to heavy hatch where trout are looking for "easy pickins."
Duck's CDC Emerger

BWO, Mayfly, Sulpher, PMD emerger pattern. Works well on it's own but also a good hi-vis fly for use with droppers. Vary the droppers to match the stage of the hatch.
Extended Body Parachute Emerger
Просмотров 1,7 тыс.10 лет назад
This fly uses parachute style hackle which floats the body deeper in the water to simulate an emerging mayfly. This style works best early in the hatch.
Cheap and Easy Strike Indicator

This is a method to make two strike indicators from a commercial bobber. These indicators are the easiest to adjust for changing depths that I have used.
Lesson 7. Size 22 Extened Body BWO

Innovative way to quickly and easily fashion extended body flies that mimic mayflies, caddis flies, and stoneflies.
what ever happened to u
Si fanno tranquillamente anche manualmente e vengono anche meglio. 😁
Like the videos, How do you size the gauge that u made. did u use the hook shank...thanks
Pure genius
Love this pattern.
Nice fly
Curious how many come off when u hook a good fish?
Seems like a fish of any size would pull the line from the bobber essentially setting the foam bobber free
That awesome
Maybe not the most realistic mayfly I’ve ever seen but definitely good 😄
This is awesome!! Trying now!
If the tubing pulls through the hole in the foam indicator too easily, lightly coat the inside of the hole with epoxy or a substance like shoe glue, but insuring that you do not plug the whole. This will hold the tubing in place much better.
What is the name or brand of the necklace/beading rubber string? Is it that Pony beading material?
I do not know the brand name. But is hollow and flexible and is sold in the necklace materials section. Some glow in the dark!
@@rogerdckwrth Thanks Roger, I went to Hobby Lobby and bought it. I found two brands that seem identical, Pony Bead Lacing and Jelly Bead Lacing. I strung some 4 lb line through the lacing and bobber. Unfortunately it when I pulled on one end of the line it seemed to pull through fairly easily. I'll have to try it on a real leader/line setup on my rod and cast a few times to see if it will stay in place. Maybe I'm doing something wrong.
If the the tubing pulls through, coat the inside of the hole with epoxy or shoe glue. This will decrease the size of the hole and will hold the indicator in place much better.
@@rogerdckwrth Thanks for the suggestion, that seemed to do the trick. I look forward to trying these on the river. I think I'll like them better than the commercial version similar to this because I can cut them to the size I want and possibly their conical shape will be more aerodynamic for casting that the round shape. Tight lines!
Thanks. I only post something when I think it is different or new. I do not do the 100th video on the PT Nymph😁. I think that you will be impressed with how well thus fly works as both the visible indicator fly with a dropper and as a pure Caddis pattern. You can also color the body with dubbing but even the “dry” dubbing soon absorbs water and sinks the fly. That is why I evolved to marker pens.
Great to see you back on you tube. Great fly. I'll try it. Thanks for posting.
Just notified about these lessons and all I can say is WOW. I WILL be tying these tomorrow. Thank you so much Roger. A+A+A+A+A+
This is brilliant, plain and simple. Thank you!
Not my invention but they really catch trout. Especially for those mayflies that skitter across the water. Keep them well dressed with Frogs Fanny!
Very nice. Will make a few and see...
To answer a few questions. I use a needle that is roughly half the diameter or less of the finished abdomen. I splay the tails after the body has dried and add a LIGHT dab of cement. I have a video on putting the hackle under the body “natural style” and it works great Thanks for watching.
Can you do a demo of these flies floating in water?
How do you get the fibbets to remain splayed?
I like it, and I'll try it. Thanks for sharing!
Nice video my friend !Flysofishing
Hey Roger, Boy the more you do it the better i'm getting.i started off with 16 but they are more like 14's,trying for smaller flies.any tips for fishing these guys, i have a feeling the fish wont be able to resist lol
Fish them "dead drift", the standard dry fly technique. They bounce along like the natural. On size, there is a tendency to make the body too large. I made a hook gauge using actual standard hook sizes and use it to measure the body BEFORE tying it on. Like you, I initially tied what I though was say a size 16 and actually ended with a size 14. I have also found that after tying the body on the hook, soak it with thin head cement to make it more durable.
I am really enjoying your videos. Thanks so much for sharing,I made some mayflybodies last night,I think their even easier to tie than traditional mays. This one looks so buggy I might have to hide behind a tree so the fish dont grab it out of my hand.LOLTake care and thanks for sharing.
Stan kay . I think that you will like the results on the stream also. Thanks for the nice comments.
my compliments, amazing way to tie duns, thanks for sharing
Thanks Joe! It is incredibly easy!
This is a great technique that will definitely make life easier when making extended bodies. I have been using the spring extended body tools to make them with cut foam and they take awhile to make. Your way is definitely easier! Thanks for sharing.
when a fish hits the line... where do you think the indicator goes? yes you are correct into the environment! Consider a rethink.
Thanks for the rethink. I'll stick with properly designed indicators.🤔👍
I have not lost one of these. I have lost the toothpick and rubber twist types in the past. I should have stated more clearly that you should not be able to pull the rubber material entirely through the hole. If you can do that, either the whole is too large or the the rubber material is too small. You can reduce the hole size with a light inner coat of epoxy if needed. Thanks for your environmental concern.
I am using a small rotary drill with variable speed to turn the mandrel. You can see the drill chuck to the left.
Roger, are you using a Norvise?
Tha nks
Wow! Now that's a pretty neat method. I gotta say I never would've thought of that myself. Looks like I'm going to the hardware store tomorrow to pick up some silicone. lol
Atta boy duck
The duck does it again . BRAVO
Thanks and enjoy!
Absolutely wonderful Duck. All the best Colbee
Excellent duck
thanks!
To stiffen the garbage bag wing (Lowes bag), after tying I put a drop of thin head cement at the base and a drop on my fingers and run my fingers up the wing. Makes the wing stiffer but not so stiff that it spins the fly on light tippets.
Hi Roger, I've spent the morning watching videos 1 through 5 after watching another tyer make an extended body using a similar technique but spinning the needle by hand. I have to say the way you put the whole thing together, body, hackle, and so on is awesome! I've since subscribed and plan on spending the rest of the day watching your videos. Thanks for posting this series.
Mark, Let me suggest two things. First, if you have a heavy, high wing and it gets wet, it will topple the fly. I now exclusively use garbage bag wings (see Jim Misiera video). They look perfect, are easy, and do not get waterlogged. Second, I use a scud hook that acts as a keel. I use Walmart gray bags for dun wings.Regards
do you burn them for an added stiffness around edges?
Thank you for posting this method. The results are an incredible looking fly for the ease of making the body. Do you have any trouble with this method of hackling with the fly floating upside down?
Working on a sulpher emerger pattern that did well this year and also some new materials for making spinner wings. Will show in video soon....
Hey Ducky ;) Whats going on next in your Channel ? Something special ;) ? Thx for share your knowledge. Greets from Germany.
great way of winding the hackle,I always have problems winding the normal way,I will give it a go
Fished the #16 Sulpher version with two friends this week on the South Holstein. This fly was incredible throughout the hatch--even when it appeared that they were taking high floating duns. Fishing a Puff Daddy Dun with the DOA Dun as a dropper, they took the DOA Dun about 5:1 and ALL of the bigger fish took the DOA Dun.
Sean, Thanks for the comments. I have used several glues, silicon, and even UV cure stuff and find that the clear 100% silicon works best for me. I tie mostly flies 16 thru 22 and use light wire scud hooks so weight has not been a problem. It might be a problem with larger flies. I have tied with a Nor-vise (friends) and they are very nice. Roger
Started your video and had to go back and see how you make that body. I commend your ingenuity in both the construction of the body and the profile of a dead or dying mayfly. I do almost the same to make mayfly bodies, except I use water based head cement, and spin the needle in the Nor-vise. If you haven't seen it, it is not like any other vise out there. It makes dubbing brushes and bodies like this etc because it has high speed bearings and spins as rapidly as your drill, and it can also do its job as a vise when all the bodies are dry. Makes tube flies as well. I do love the thought of the silicone body being an "inner tube" as well. Going to try this now and see if the bodies are better. I think they will be heavier, but the added buoyancy of the silicone may just make up for that. Thanks for sharing. All the best, Sean
