    Hi mate, love the videos, I was wondering you could tell me roughly how often you have to go into uni every week whilst studying Physio, what are the contact hours like?

    • @petermcadam
      @petermcadam 15 дней назад

      Heya, thanks for watching. Every degree programme will be very different depending on what University you study at, however, generally speaking you will go through periods of attending lectures and then on placement. For my degree we had placements of around 7 weeks, which is basically like working full-time. Then followed by 2-3 months of attending lectures Wednesday-Friday. But again, every course will be different!

    Hey mate love the videos, I’m from a similar background from you I’m going into my 3rd year of sport science, how hard is a msc in physio and what’s the transition like from sport science?

    • @petermcadam
      @petermcadam 15 дней назад

      Hey, thanks for watching. There is a lot of similarities regarding the content, especially when it comes to biomechanics and physiology. The biggest difference is the introduction of more anatomy knowledge, and of the different conditions/pathologies and how to treat/diagnose them. With an MSc you're marked at level 7, so it's a deffo step up, however, if you're consistently achieving high 2:2s/2:1s for your BSc then I think you'll be fine. The biggest challenge I found was placements. You can be in a variety of different environments such as A&E, outpatient clinics, home visits etc and sometimes your placement educator might mark you harshly. In this case it's making sure you're getting your time to decompress on the weekends. Hope that helps!

    • @matthewharrington6512
      @matthewharrington6512 15 дней назад

      @@petermcadam thank you for the reply mate, I get along with physiology quite well I struggled at first but I’ve wrapped my head around it, biomechanics I don’t understand much but that’s because the first year of uni we didn’t really go into much detail on it and then the second year I had a foreign teacher who I couldn’t really understand so I fell behind on that, currently a few marks away from a 2:1 so I’m in a decent position, I’ve heard there’s of a lot of content to cover so o imagine it would be quite time consuming.

      @@ajaykhapung5770 Hi, to be honest, generally across the interviews I could have been much better prepared! But thankfully I got a place! I would suggest always knowing why you want to be a physiotherapist and why the university you're applying for. Furthermore to be familiar with the NHS values and how you have demonstrated them in your previous experiences. Reflect on what your core values as an individual and this can be related to how they will reflect on your work as a future healthcare professional. Be familiar with EDI (equality, diversity and inclusion) and be able to reason the importance of these principles. Understand current challenges of the NHS and how the career as a Physiotherapist is developing. Utilise previous experiences related to Physiotherapy (STAR examples are good for structure). You may be asked questions related to pathophysiology, dependent on the university. Lastly you may be asked scenario questions, I believe they use this to get an idea about your character, assessing how you manage challenging situations. I hope this helps!

    Any aspiring S&C coaches who stumble across this video - please take with a pinch of salt. This is like any subject you study at University. Most graduates are like 21 years old? Earning 20k a year at 21 isn’t a bad deal. I have friends who did an Accounting degree and earned 18k in his first job. I did S&C undergrad and a Performance Analysis MSc. I also did CSCS and UEFA coaching badges along with learning 2 languages. Not once did I think about money because I love football and waking up and going to the performance centre and going to games home and away travelling the United States is my dream job. I can also confirm I earn more money than what is projected on this video with less than 10 years experience. So take with a pinch of salt. If you do an S&C degree or even post grad and work in a commercial facility, expect low pay. But if you utilise your knowledge, and push for progression then you will get out what you put in. I have never done internships for no pay. I got paid for every match I did analysis for, it wasn’t much but I was still paid which covered expenses but tbh I would have happily done it for free because I understood how valuable experience is. So don’t turn your nose at unpaid work, it will pay off in the end. The trick is to keep searching for jobs and keep working to progress your CV and skills. To conclude, if you want to be an S&C coach especially in elite sport, then absolutely go for it. Forget supply on demand. Yes there are many S&C coaches out there, but most end up working in gyms training gen pop because they don’t apply themselves or they give up. In my head, I knew there wasn’t an influx of coaches that had UEFA badges, who are bilingual who had premier league experience on their CV. So there isn’t a high supply of good experienced coaches. There’s a high supply that don’t do anything with their knowledge.

    • @petermcadam
      @petermcadam 8 месяцев назад

      Hey! Considering the difficulty of the course is quite varied depending on the person/University, I think the best way to answer your question is to refer to what most courses expect of you. A full-time course expects you to essentially treat it as a full-time job, whereby, you invest around 37.5 hours a week into your course. This will include lectures, placements, assessments, and your own reading. In all honesty, I probably put more hours than this in, but I don't think it is necessary! Good look with your applications and let me know if you have any questions!

      Why were you toying with the idea if you don’t mind me asking? You must have been interested in working in sport. I have those qualifications and work in football, and I earn more than 25k. Alot more infact. 25k is a graduate salary. I got into football because I love football. I love getting up in a morning and going to the performance centre, going to matches and seeing our players flourish. I couldn’t care less about how much i’m paid and I never have. I have made money on property. If you want to earn big money right from the start, do a medical degree and go into dentistry or something. I would just rather go to work and love my job.

      @darrenlamb6279 7 месяцев назад

      @@Tyke0489 yes I enjoyed working in sport, but I approached it as a mature student, so I had bills to pay, so the money meant more to me than you. It’s great that you’ve made money on property, well done you, and you can go and work and not care about the money. But not everyone is in the same position. Hello I hope you are doing well , I have done master of physiotherapy in neurology from india , I have no clinical experience and I am willing to be physio in UK, And I have two options either enroll in msc course in uk university then after that go for HCPC and NHS interview it will be easier or I have to start HCPC registration process, plz suggest which one is better way to get job in UK

    • @petermcadam
      @petermcadam 2 года назад

      Hi, thank you for the comment. I think that would mainly depend on whether the Physiotherapy programme that you did in India is approved by the HCPC or not. My advice would be to email education@hcpc-uk.org and ask them. Otherwise if you go on the HCPC website and look for the 'education' link, you can find out if your programme is approved by the HCPC. I'm afraid I do not know much more than that. All the best!

    Hi everyone, for transparency this video was created prior to Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Otherwise I would have mentioned that as a caveat for this video. In light of this I think it is important for people to have awareness about global events such as wars and pandemics. However, for everything else I stand by statements of the news catastrophising other events.

    • @petermcadam
      @petermcadam 2 года назад

      Heya dude, I haven’t heard much about them specifically for S&C but I think doing some research about what kind of facilities they have, the reputation and experience of their S&C staff, and also the sports teams the uni has connections with would be a good start. Best of luck with everything S&C!

    great video! I’ve got an interview tomorrow and this is definitely the best video on the nature of the interviews. I’ve got a haircut just for the interview! A question I’ve got is about a question I want to ask. Would it sound bad to ask if you can appeal certain placements. For example if you demonstrate you’re much more into MSK for intensive care, so want to do placements for that more for more experience, would that sound off putting for the admission team?

    • @petermcadam
      @petermcadam 2 года назад

      Great! Best of luck! I’m sure you’ll do great. Regardless of your previous experience the course will want you to do your rotations in different environments/specialties. I think it’s great that you have an idea of what you would like to do once you graduate, however, it’s very common that people end up changing their mind once they get experience in different areas. Therefore, my advice would be to express an interest in MSK if that’s what inspires you, but say that you’re also open to trying placements in other areas to get a broad experience of healthcare. MSK if my favourite part of physio too, however, I’m open to the fact that I might change my mind. Hope that answers your question.

    Does it cause hair loss?

    • @petermcadam
      @petermcadam 2 года назад

      It can cause hair loss yes, but it mostly depends on your genetics/the hair follicles on your scalp. Creatine is likely to increase a hormone called DHT which can cause hair loss in men, however, only if your hair follicles are susceptible to DHT, hence why some men go bald in their 40s and some don’t.
