Parallel/Series 4x12 Wiring Tutorial without Soldering

I prefer solder connections but there's nothing wrong with doing it this way. Every major manufacturer uses crimp connections for their speaker wiring but every installation is only as good as it's installer. Take your time and make sure each connection is solid and your wiring job will last forever.
Beware of the goons claiming to have magical and superior tonal improvements from using 14AWG or 12AWG wire size. If anything, the added weight of the wire can attribute to premature stress failure of the joints. Keep in mind the wire size on the speaker itself and even the output tra...

How To Phase Flip Unbalanced Signals: Pyle PHE400 Modification for Phase and Ground Lift Switch
Просмотров 4644 месяца назад
I had a situation on tour where recalling an effect patch (all analog effects and signal path) was causing one amp in a Dual Mono setup to be out of phase with the other. This could also happen when using different amplifiers as each tube gain stage inverts the audio signal. If one amplifier has one more or less gain stage than the other, it is possible the two amplifiers will not be in phase a...

It was a bummer to find out two of the speakers had been reconed with voice...

Doing a routine service and repair on this Genz Benz Diablo 100 amplifier. Fortunately, it was not too difficult to track down the cause for each issue and fix everything. In the video I briefly discuss the folly of the 100W/50W switch. Many amp manufacturers have used a version of this but this is basically the same switching method as used in the Peavey Ultra Plus. This amp came in with a couple ailments. Unwanted noise and a general "it doesn't sound right" are typical complaints but each repair is different. Sometime in this amp's life a tube had shorted and damaged one of the sockets. This needed to be replaced. The second issue was a bad power supply smoothing cap for the 18VDC active effects loop. It should be noted they used 100uF/20V caps in 18V pa...

A while back I acquired a very nice and clean 2203 halfstack from '84. This was a great year for the amps but not so much for the cabs as the G12M-70's have a pretty bad rap. This was a transitional year for both the cabinets and the heads. The 2203 amplifier would first see the DI jack installed on the rear panel during this year. In 1984 the vertical input models would also be discontinued in...

      I'm not sure how are you are interpreting the diagram. The inner ring makes contact with the sleeve. The tip connection is insulated from the sleeve and makes contact through a prong which is not illustrated.

      Check R70 and R71 with a heat gun and multimeter. One of them could be going bad or possibly C45 . The voltage should be constant on one side of R70 and R71. If it fluctuates on the other side then it's likely one of those components.

    Your tutorials are always the best! Currently working on wiring up a 6x12 cab. Would I want to use series/parallel or parallel/series for that wiring configuration or do you suggest something else? Thanks!

    • @purgasound
      @purgasound 2 месяца назад

      6x12's are tricky. I don't really recommend them since you can't really match the impedance correctly to an amplifier. If you use mismatched impedance speakers to get the correct load, the current distribution will be unbalanced and some speakers will draw more power than others. If anything, I would wire four 16 ohm speakers in series parallel for a 16 ohm load, then two 16 ohm speakers in parallel for an 8 ohm load. Then parallel the pair and the quad together for a 5.33 ohm load. It's about as good as it's going to get. It's a mismatch in impedance but most amplifiers should be able to tolerate it without issues. However, I always recommend properly matching the speaker and amplifier output impedance. Cheers.

      @@purgasound ok is there anyway you can tell me how to wire a quad of 4 ohm speakers to get a 16 ohm cab as what i plan on doing is making my own 408 cab and buying 4 Peavey Blue Marvel 8 inch speakers rated at 25 watts and 3.2 ohms and wire them to get I suppose a 13 ohm cabinet or there abouts as I know people hate Blue Marvel's but I like them and they are like $20 a piece because of the hatred towards them and i realize that a 408 is not popular but in my situation it seems perfect as it will give me a mini quad cabinet sound without getting the cops called and could still play bars theoretically and I want close to 16 ohms as my amp is a 112 8 ohm and goes from too quiet to too loud and a 16 ohm loade i think would give me a broader range of volume at lower volume without having to choke my amp down with a 7 band eq pedal in the effects loop with volume all the way down on it and I think the quad of 8 inches will sound better than the single 112 if you could tell me how to wire them to get a quad of 4 ohm speakers to make a 16 ohm cabinet or even a quad of 8 ohm speakers to make 32 ohms as I dont want to go that high in impedance but I am sure the wiring is the same regardless, anyway I thank you for our knowledge about this

Had it serviced last year for a basic health check, dunno if it had ever been serviced but at 30yrs use, and it does get hot back there, so i figured it'd be good time to get it checked. There was a leaking cap (think just like the one found towards the end), and had several changed, new power tubes; otherwise it was good all around. It's my go-to amp. Nice video~~~
