This song has always had a lot of meaning for me because I rode the City of New Orleans train often in the late 50's from Anna, IL, a tiny town not far from my hometown in Southern Illinois, to Champaign, IL for the first couple of years of college. I really enjoyed it.

Guitar, Ukulele, 2022. I made up and dedicated this instrumental to Sam McGee who with his brother Kirk played on The Grand Ole Opry for so many years. I took this picture of him playing at the Opry in about 1972. I don't finger pick like Sam McGee but his playing was very inspirational. We used the first part of Sam's Piece as our theme for our live radio show we had for 8 years.
