Video was shot on January 28th, 1990 in Chicago, IL. CNW #400 and 423 siting dead on a siding. While filming two Metra trains come by with F40PH-2 #129 pulling and then and F40PH-2 #159 pushing. After walking around the CNW units a Conrail freight comes through with SD60 # 6808 and C40-8 # 6040. Moving inside CNW 400 we see the reason for it's problem.

Dude, it’s so clear. It is definitely 9912
It’s nice to see what my town station looked like back then. Edit: oh good god it’s 9912 😰
You were lucky that was 9904 and not 9912, else you wouldn't be alive to upload the video.
Burlington Northern E9 #9910
The East End never fails to provide excellent action!
9910+9912
Like your video. Very well made. Just Subscribe to your channel. I live by a Train yard in Saginaw, Texas. Check some of mine trains passes. :)
ironworked for 30 years on off thier. Seen alot of things close. Built the new electric arc furnance , they ran it and blew it up. Sad
Definitely sounds like a Leslie RS3L?
I have the ho scale model of number 82, using this video to decide what horn to select on my decoder! Awesome video.
This is kinda wild, there is two significant aspects about this video, the first being that This is the year I was born, second being that this is where I live now. When I was a kid my folks took me on a train ride all the way into Chicago, then back out to where we lived in Westmont, but by that time I think they were using the F40PH's they run nowadays, this was sometime in the mid 90's. The station doesn't look all that different than it does nowadays, at least what I can see.
I miss cabooses and five man crews. All the good stuff is gone.
Thank you very much! Was the whole site owned by one company at one time?
yes, us steel
In the mid 70s, as a young boy, I sat for countless hours on my Grandmothers 2nd story apartment porch and watch the never ending line of dump trucks hauling Coke and/or Ore (??) go into that plant.
Former NYC line that once connected at Metamora, Indiana with the current Whitewater Valley Railroad.
Having spent 5 years of my life working here without being laid off once meant a lot to some of us. Seeing the Mill in this dormant state is sad indeed. It's hard to believe that, at one time, I think nearly 14000 men and women once worked here in its busiest days.
wow
LOL The spooky music was a really nice touch. I had to think twice as it first started creeping in. Good mixing! The 400 F7 had a problem with its frame. The rear portion after the truck was sagging. Look at photos from when it pulled the circus train from Baraboo to Chicago in 1982 (2nd unit). Looking down the side you'll see how both the frame and upper grill have a distinct curve downward at the back. BTW: Its sister, the #403 (lead unit on the 82 Circus train), is still in service pulling the Royal Gorge tour in Colorado.
Nice video footage!
doesn't look a thing like it today :(
Actual late Burlington boxcar in the consist just a little ahead of that MP Airslide you focused on.
I REALLY ENJOYED this video! Especially seeing the good old green locomotives pulling mixed freight COMPLETE WITH CABOOSE(that's the icing on the cake:)Seeing the E unit was great too.Thank U! Do u have any more videos like this 1 to share?
This was a real treat......especially seeing that E unit passenger train and a caboose at the end of the video. Thanks for sharing
610 should be saved by the Illinois Railway Museum
Metra 610 was scrapped at the NREX’s discontinuation of Dixmoor
@@TheMilwaukeeRoad that’s horrible and sad news, it’s heartbreaking!
Luckily 611 and 614 are at storage
@@TheMilwaukeeRoad yes but i don’t think they will ever come back to service maybe they will!
@@theelginrailfan9489 maybe they will be sent to railroad museums to operating condition
Maybe the R&N can buy F40c 611 and the IRM can buy 614.
@superchief 88 Reading & Northern
@@brianfalzon6739 you know a f40c is originally from Milwaukee road a f40c is 46 years old it’s built by Milwaukee road company
9912 is the one that hit a women
Yup
My dad was a Rock Island rear brakeman 1974-1980....then head brakeman CNW 1980-1991 then BN 1991-1995...he loved the BN, didn't work metra till the end of 1993....most if not all Es were pulled by then....I remember when he told me when he was working freight that he worked a crew that parked 7 of them east of cicero....
Nice video!
A true legend! Such a shame they had to go. But I cannot lie, I love the MP36's too.
Sdp40f bell
They hung on for a long time, those E units.
Man, cool ABBA F3 lineup!
Wish I was there!
Cool.
I wish more F40PH locos were still around cause I always see an NPCU but I want them on long distance trains
The 2K Gamer They lack the power to be used on long distance trains. 3000 horsepower isn't much.
two days after i was born
I really miss the Burlington Northern. The power, the glory, in all its splendor. Greem white and black, baby.
caught this guy refueling in streator, with jim squires boarding.
Where was there a crossing?
Look at 2:21 in the video. That signal bridge is about where the crossings are.
So you must mean Yackley Avenue was a grade crossing? I always rail fan at Lisle and there has never been a crossing but a bridge exactly where you specified.
jnite67 Sorry, I thought you meant track crossings. There are no grade crossings of any kind after the Naperville station to Downers Grove.
That crossing, if it existed, seems too far away to be as audible as it is in this video.
The signal bridge and crossovers appear to be farther to the east than where they are today.
Great Meet! Both of those Units Survive and are Preserved. the 9919 is now Preserved at the Illinois Railway museum in Union Illinois and is now in the Burlington Northern Executive paint Scheme and has been Renumbered to BN-3. The 9913 is Now Preserved at my Local Railroad Museum (The Gold Coast Railroad Museum here in Miami Florida) and is Now Painted in the Burlington Silver Paint Scheme and it is still Numbered #9913.
I miss those cabooses! Wish they were still around.
that's nice!!! Its sad that the old semaphores are down now.
Love no graffiti on the freight cars

30 yrs ago in MN, they called it art"...
I love this video! 4 F40PH's are a lot of power!
Great to see vidio from this time I remember the days when the California Zepher left Chicago as a three section train.
@EJE665 this wasnt nice catch back then
Wow four F40PHs! Nice catch!
Amtrak sure was more interesting then!
