    Another take on verse 1 "watched Him carefully" could be that they wanted to experience for themselves the man they had heard about so they could learn more about Him and either agree with or reject the things they had heard about Him to date as not all Pharisees rejected Him. The man with swelling may have come as many did because He wanted to be healed - not as an invited guest. They may have remained quiet because they didn't know how to respond. They were still learning about Jesus. Silence because they didn't know enough to say anything. It was a question they needed time to think about and weren't about to reply quickly in reaction. Perhaps they were considering for themselves what to believe about Jesus - unlike those Pharisees who had already hardened their hearts against Him.

    • @equippedkingdom
      @equippedkingdom 5 месяцев назад

      I do think that your explanations are possible. Because Luke had used very similar language in the Sabbath encounter in Luke 6, it lends to setting a similar expectation of these religious leaders. Jesus' warnings and the parable that follows, coupled with Him responding to their thoughts, led me to present the silence as a conviction. As to their not knowing enough to say anything, these were the people who knew the OT and Jewish law better than any others in Israel. They couldn't respond to Jesus' logic with any words that would have made them look pious. Thanks for sharing!

    While yeast is often used to refer to evil, I love that, in this circumstance, yeast is used to show something positive - the ripple effect (or growth). For me, this showed that God gives us access to things that can be used for good or evil.

      I didn't want to go down another rabbit hole, so to speak, but I definitely see a connection between the Feast of Weeks offering and Jesus' parable. Both are evidence of the Kingdom revealed in Holy Spirit and in Jesus.

    Regarding the Sabbath, I go back to Genesis 2:3 - "God blessed the seventh day and declared it holy, for on it He rested from His work of creation." - not all of His work. He rested, which we need - refresh so we are ready for service. It does not say He rested and did nothing. In fact, He blessed the seventh day (set is aside for holy use). If we align this with His greatest commandments, we will love God and love our neighbors as ourselves regardless of the day of the week. I think Jesus demonstrated caring for others even on the Sabbath - and it's not our daily work. It's done to glorify God.

    • @equippedkingdom
      @equippedkingdom 5 месяцев назад

      Lori, I think we use our healing experience to comfort others who are experiencing pain and suffering and do what Paul talks about in 2 Corinthians 1:3-7-- Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. For just as we share abundantly in the sufferings of Christ, so also our comfort abounds through Christ. If we are distressed, it is for your comfort and salvation; if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which produces in you patient endurance of the same sufferings we suffer. And our hope for you is firm, because we know that just as you share in our sufferings, so also you share in our comfort. Our healing is personal and intimate, but our testimony is for everyone to know Jesus.

    Holy Spirit used your timely message with me as I was questioning how I could "kindly" redirect someone that has been in contact with me who feels Jesus is one of many spirits that give guidance. Sometimes, straightforward truth is better than concern about being kind - especially if the person isn't hearing the truth - only the kindness - and is seeing it as approval of their behavior. Instead, I pray for whatever is holding that person's heart and mind and guiding that person to let go and allow that person to find Truth -- Jesus.

    To the "marriage permanence" folks: You are fearful, and you are unbelieving of the scriptures, if you try to hide and conceal the exceptions given in Matthew, that are as much a part of scripture as the general rules. If you are fearful of hell, which we all should be, you should be afraid also of false teachings, and becoming a false teacher. The scriptures that teach against divorce and remarriage also give an exception for divorce and remarriage because of immorality, both in betrothal and in marriage, because Jesus does not condone or permit immorality in marriage. You also advocate uncleanness in marriage, if a defiled wife commits adultery and you tell the innocent husband to "just live with it." She can even mock her husband every night, and tell him that she loves her adulterous lover's manhood erections more than her husband's (even reminding him of that daily), but the man just has to live with that every day? And be a shame to his family and to his entire church congregation, and be the focus of gossip and uncleanness? Not so. Jesus to the rescue !!!! Trust in His Word, all of His Word, and obey, and you will be saved.

      Thank you. Finally some common sense reasoning with respect to biblical teaching on marriage. God doesn't hate divorce. He hates treachery, abuse, etc. That's the spirit of Malachi 2.

    The amazing thing about the Jewish religious leaders is that they prayed to God to send the Messiah and yet when God answered their prayers they, they disputed that Jesus was God's gift to His children. Jesus did not come to defeat the Roman's but to defeat our true enemy, the devil.

    • @equippedkingdom

      Yes! You get a sense of how much this grieves God, too. Think about Jesus' first prediction here with how grieved He is as He gets closer to Jerusalem: Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were not willing.--Luke 13:35 The religious leaders have ears that do not hear and eyes that do not see Who has come. This really made me reflect on the times when God answers my prayers--do I fail to see and appreciate all that He has done, especially when it doesn't look like I thought it would? Thanks for your comment!

    What about men and women who want to be married, who are fertile, but for some reason are unable to find a spouse? In our churches there are numbers of both men and women who are in this situation. They must remain celibate in order not to sin against God's command that unmarried people must not engage in sexual relations.

    • @equippedkingdom
      @equippedkingdom 10 месяцев назад

      I think that you are describing the consequences of this broken world--the gap between asking for our hearts' desires and God's response. I wonder how often that gap is a time of preparation, where God is getting rocks out of our heart soil so that we are ready to live a life of commitment. "No" is not the same as "not yet", and we can praise God that He redeems our times of waiting with His grace.

They wanted marriage in their youth, but yes the broken sin nature within us kept them from their hearts desire for marriage. They seem to have accepted that marriage is not something they will have. I was never comfortable with the idea of being connected to another person. I was sexually abused as a child, so I am sure that is a factor in my singleness. I cannot claim to be in the category of those who "chose to be like eunuchs for the sake of the Kingdom of Heaven, but rather accepted singleness by the grace of God!

    I've been celibate most of my life. I am unable to make love anymore, but that's actually a blessing as marriage is not something I want for myself. I am single and wish to remain so. Therefore, remarriage after a divorce is not something I concern myself with.

      Hamilton, thank you for your thoughtful comment. It reminds me of Solomon's observation in Ecclesiastes: There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens. --Ecclesiastes 3:1 To your point, he goes on to say that there is a time for uprooting, for scattering, for letting go, and for breaking relationships (my paraphrase). He describes seasons that God uses to redirect us and allow us to heal, so that we can build something new. Yet, God makes everything beautiful, including, and most importantly, the greatest struggles in our lives. Whatever God has planned for you, whether that is remarriage or not, I am convinced that He has relationships for you that will minister to you and give you opportunities to speak life into others. I pray that God makes you aware of just how close He is to you in this time, in every way that you need Him. Go in peace, friend.

    I'm old school - so I like inviting Holy Spirit in prior to beginning. That being said, reading His Word first and following with prayer accomplishes the same thing. It's a change I can definitely get used to.

    Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery; and whoever marries her who is divorced from her husband commits adultery. Luke 16:18 NKJV For the woman which hath an husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he liveth; but if the husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband. So then if, while her husband liveth, she be married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if her husband be dead, she is free from that law; so that she is no adulteress, though she be married to another man. Romans 7:2-3 KJV But from the beginning of the creation, God ‘made them male and female. For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’; so then they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate.” In the house His disciples also asked Him again about the same matter. So He said to them, “Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery against her. And if a woman divorces her husband and marries another, she commits adultery.” Mark 10:6-12 NKJV

    I love the distinction of acting from right standing before God and not for right standing before God. Our works are not for salvation (only the grace of God and belief in Jesus does that); but our works come from our belief in and love for Jesus. It's all about heart posture and becoming - not doing. Good word!

      I think it’s very relevant to Luke, who contrasts the notion of worthiness in the eyes of the Jewish elders from the centurion’s perspective. It’s “old wine” vs “new wine” presented in terms of why God is merciful. Thanks for your comment and for watching. God bless you, dear friend!

      It actually makes it easier for me to see how, because they were so deeply engulfed in the law, they thought Jesus was so radical. It seems like some rejected Jesus out of pride and others out of a deep commitment to what they understood to be God's requirements - and most certainly rejection happened according to God's plan/purpose.

    • @equippedkingdom
      @equippedkingdom Год назад

      Agreed, Lori. I think, on the one hand, they were motivated by a zealous pursuit to remain observant to God's covenant law, especially on the matter of Sabbath. On the other hand, they are challenged by the idea that God is rejecting their fences, because they rationalized rigidity over mercy. Thanks for your comment and for your support! God bless you, my friend.
