I got my extra in nov.2024...tech 97%..general 100%.. extra 94%...I does work.

390 front panel programing can get glitchy at times and keypad becomes unusable while receiving digital. Pain in the butt. Does the Anytone have the same keypad issue?

Have you tried this to capture NOAA or Meteor-M2 sat imagery?

I'm with you on having no real interest in the math stuff. This may keep me from getting my Extra. Not that much in the way of new band privileges. But the bragging rights might be worth it - ha. I've had a Tech license for 30 years but only got my General a year ago. Brand new to HF and loving it.

When I am using the RFLINK app and I try to QSO the FROM column shows as "OPENSPOT" when I expect to see my callsign. I have looked and looked but cannot figure out how to change that to show my callsign. Can you offer any help on this? Thanks Greg KO8A

Can you make this same video, but with radios? I am trying to find the best radio as a beginner. something that will give me lots of capability but also push me to learn more and how to use it. I dont want to exceed the radio in 6 months.

We all make mistakes but ideally we want to learn from them. The old adage: "measure twice cut once" definitely applies to Ham antenna building. But also a simple sense check goes a long way. If you are making a 1/4 wave dipole for 2m then each element is going to be 2m x 1/4 = 50cm which on my measuring tape is about 20". The second rule ought to be to trust your equipment. If the SWR is 4 then it is too high and instead of ploughing on to prove the 'smoke test rule' one ought to sit down and work out what it is telling you. I would not use anything unless it had an SWR of below 1.5. Finally with 2m you want to think about polarisation as correct orientation will give you better results: Vertical for FM and horizontal for SSB. Kudos to you for making the video; with each build I too am learning how to make a better one. 73's 2E0KWI

I used ham radio prep for my tech general and extra class licenses! Got my extra within a little over a year after gettting my technician class license!

I just worked5000 miles plus on 17 CW with a $20 dipole SIX FEET HIGH. It works 6-20 meters, all of each band , no masts, tuners, baluns or other magical B.S. .So what good is a 20 foot mast?

To me CW would be my thing, less equipment needed then ft-8.

When I got my tech I mainly wanted to play with HF and CW mainly. I just wished i started with GMRS cause i love chewing the rag as well. I may still get my GMRS license as well. I can see myself playing with cw and still getting gen and extra and using other phone bands with CB and GMRS when im not battery operated outdoors. Great video 73, kq4hcu

I think that the two TYT UV390PLUS radios I bought on AliExpress for $149 total makes the 380 a fishing weight. The 390plus is 10 watts maximum and has AES256 encryption. What's your take?😂

After my Technicians license few months back, I purchased the MD-UV390 plus as a starter DMR. Now I have my Generals and after doing a few engineering with Antennas and SDR, I am now going to dive back into my DMR. Reddit told me to get the anytone but, just like the technicians license I studied with a Baofeng UV-5R, these are cheap but helps get the feet wet with being as cheap as possible. I have no regrets. Good video!
