Wonderfully explained, I never came to the thought that a white person with a different religion would explain the life stories of the 10 human Gurus and the 11th Guru, Guru Granth Sahib Ji. Not bad but clearly a western Judeo Christian explanation of Sikhi. The Siri Guru Granth Ji, is not a Bible, not Scripture, it is the 11th Guru in written form. When we take a hukam, the reading and order of the day, or do an akandh path or Sahaj path, continual reading, Guru uses us as the channel and speaks through us. The Bible is a compilation of writings not written by Jesus or the Abrahamic prophets of Christianity or Judaism, but especially the New Testament written hundreds of years after the life of Jesus and had to be voted on in Carthage in 397. In so many ways the Siri Guru Granth Sahib can NEVER compared to a Bible. Of the many remarkable pieces of the Siri Guru Granth Sahib is the fact that except for Japji Sahib, it is entirely composed using 60 different raagas/raags, which are a melodic framework in Indian classical music akin to a melodic mode, it has no direct translation in European music. Each raag is an array of musical structures with musical motifs, with the ability to "colour the mind" and affect the emotions of the audience. Each raag provides the musician with a musical framework within which to improvise. There is so much complexity in the Siri Guru Granth Sahib, entire books have been written on it and I couldn’t never do it justice. It is not simply written in Punjabi, but Gurmukhi, yes the script is the basis of the Punjabi language, but each letter and word have multiple meanings And create specific resonance in your mouth from speaking and your body from hearing that are a science onto itself and invoke states of consciousness.

I'm also fourteen and learning more about our Khalsa Instead of say "Nanek" try "Nan - ack" Instead of saying "gurus" try saying "Guu -ruus" I'll be saying the words you should try to say cause this gonna be long "Gurr- mukki" "Granth" When saying Amar Das Ji make it clear not all squished together! :) Say "Parrr duh"

Thank you, I can relate to appreciating this beautiful culture while not being inclined to identify as one. For me, I am just not at all in the slightest wired to be in a herd. It's amazing to see though. I agree it is REGIONAL. The turban means something very different to other Sikhs and the general population in the Punjab region than it does in the U.S. where a very small percentage of the population has any idea there is anything positive to this identity.
