Hi kids! You find yourself at the ProMasters Only youtube channel. Repair videos and highlights from the shop, located at 213 Snyder Ave. Barberton OH 44203. Feel free to call 234-571-0098, though email is best at Promastersonly@gmail.com. I respond personally. I can also respond impersonally, if you like.
OUR HISTORY:
I was an early adopter of the then new Promaster in summer of 2014. Back then, my gig was Expedited Freight, which means 100,000 miles a year or more in vans. Of necessity, I learned vast amounts about how to keep the vans running. Over the years, the fleet grew to 5 vans and multiple drivers, and I found myself being more of a fleet manager than a trucker. Opening a repair shop was the next logical step. That first Promaster is still in service, and will crest 800,000 miles this year!
OUR MISSION:
It sounds hokey, but sparing people automotive pain is what we aim to do. Repair videos, and world class service further that aim. It's all about the love. Vantastic!

Van Detective: Fat Idiot Solves Case! 62TE throws EVERY code! Overfill. Horrible Noise. No pressure!
Confirmed by dyno tests (ruclips.net/video/XYavlJY_5Ks/видео.html). Longer extensions definitely result in less torque. But the amount of reduction is the same for a given length regardless of how many extensions are combined. So for, say, 15", the reduction in torque is the same whether it is one 15" extension or three separate extensions that add up to 15". At least according to that one video with one brand of extensions. Going to have to get me a SUPER deep socket set.
@@NVPJ interesting. My gut tells me that a shorter extension wont flex as much, but who am I to argue with science!
Glad you waited until the week was on the backside of hump day to lay that on us!
Ah, yes, the torqueological misalignment of the impact gun with an extension is much like the fluxogrammatic behavior of the turbo encabulator's cardinal grammeters. When you attach an elongatory extension to an impact gun, the wobblelation of the oscillatory percussive harmonics gets disruptified. This causes a reductive spindlification in the torque transfer coefficient due to the hyperbolic dilapidation of the gyroscopic torque vectors. In simpler terms, the axial transmogrification of kinetic energy disperses through the flexodynamic properties of the extension. The result? The torsional thrust becomes desaturized, leading to an inherent flangification of force, much like how the turbo encabulator's spurving bearings operate under inverse panametric constraints. It’s basic mechanical science!
@@Alec_Bike easy for you to say!
She blinded me with science!
(Kip) blinded us with science ❤
@@ttony6538 SCIENCE!
scientism
Dyno tests - 11% loss on 3" extension, 18% loss on 6" extension, and 50% loss on 15" extension. If you combine multiple short extensions, the end result will be similar to a single extension of the same length, but it will take a few more seconds to reach the same torque. And if you use "wobble" extensions, even with a short 3" one expect to lose an *additional* 17-35% depending if held straight at an angle. Cool shit. Thanks for sending me down that rabbit hole! ruclips.net/video/XYavlJY_5Ks/видео.html
@@NVPJ I’m down that hole myself!
The whole problem with the headbolts was that you didn't use a longer extension 😂

@@AyoBrown hard to say with so little info.
Its all about physics! The laws of physics can not be changed, only ignored!!! NOTE; don't use a long extension on a Torque wrench!!!
The long extension is twisting a bit, acting to absorb a bit of the hammer shock.
I just watched Dave and Carrie’s video about their transmission failing. I have a 2018 3500, bought it with 60k and am up to 130k. Shortly after I got it, I heard horror stories about the transmissions. I added a Scan Gauge III, so I could monitor the transmission temperature. At that point it usually ran about 90 degrees over ambient. (Normal driving) After my last fluid change it has been running about 120 over ambient?? Not sure why? Too much fluid, not enough??? About to change it again just because I can. (And you showed me how) to see if that makes a difference. But if temperature is the big concern, why not add an auxiliary trans cooler? An extra quart of fluid should help, and the cooler should help keep things, well cooler. Thank you for all your great information, and entertaining videos.

@@mikebenson8698 The stock trans cooler is plenty big, and frankly I dont know if colder is necessarily better, though I know too hot is too hot.
Do you have an idea of what’s hot and what’s too hot. You talked about water in the fluid. Mine rarely hits the 200f mark, so it isn’t steaming the water off.
@ At 200, yeah its steaming water out fine. Something like 230 would be too hot. What I think matters more is what’s its historical normal cruise temp, such that you’ll spot when its really working hard.
I liked you guys guitar playing!!!
You’re 54 and learning new things. The real problem is, will you remember it?
I switched over to Milwaukee a few years back and I didn’t realize it the first few times I used my impact, but I caught on kinda quickly lol. Thanks for your channel. Keep up the good work.
I'll be 54 in a couple of weeks, we're both old farts,😂
The extension allows some small "twist" which"cushions" the hammer effect. MMA School 1972..
What….. That doesn’t make sense to me. I understand if it was 90 degrees, and torque is amplified by leverage, but straight on …. that’s witchcraft. Is it the extension is actually twisting, preventing the electric driver from applying consistent torque ?
@@stuartstuart866 the consensus is the extension is acting like a spring, robbing torque to twist the extension. I buy it.
As you attempt to snatch the pebble from my hand turn up the torque setting and take that extension off that tool, grasshopper! 😂😂 surprised me as well and I’ve got a few more trips around the Sun on you. Thanks for sharing
The day you stop learning is the day you begin the decline. Extensions and joints will absorb energy by their flex and play. So yes it’s better to be direct and the shortest.
@@Alec_Bike seems to be the consensus.

Well Hells Bells!!! Ha you learned a new trick @ 54....I learned a new trick @ 68! Who would a thunk 6" would make that much difference 🤔
As a side note, they make "Torque Limiting Extension Bar" sets for use in applications. I use a set for my wheel lug nuts when I change tires. lets me use the impact gun and not worry about making them impossible to remove in field by hand.
thanks for saving me the embarrassment....lol!!
Ya live and ya learn. Great lesson.

Congratulations, I am 74 years old, seems like everytime I work on my cars I learn something new. I just built a Promaster 1500 into our camper, thanks for all help on the mechanical side.
@@jimforeman7892 glad to be of service. I dont mind learning new things, but I HATE learning them the hard way!
Same here with a 2500. Seems like every time I get some momentum going on the inside conversion I have to pull off and go under the hood or under the van to fix something 😡. I guess we’ll get there eventually 😊
Can any of you fart smellers tell me exactly why this works, and what the equation to calculate the torque loss looks like?
Acts like a torque stick. ruclips.net/video/JVY0e5sdWx4/видео.htmlsi=dznMQqDHpqVygXmV These guys are the experts. Quick and to the point for any testing. Watch at 1.5x speed and even quicker.
The KISS explanation is that the extension acts like a torsional spring and is twisting elastically and not transferring the full force to the socket. As for mathematical reasons, @TorqueTestChannel has a good video showing why and how it happens.
@@deanhagstrom6667 I’m not buying it. That extension is easily 1/2” thick tool steel. Its not flexing. Not sure how much torque is on the head bolts, but its likely something like 200lbs. If you want the previous video, I could barely break them with 4’ of bar. It has something to do with the length of the extension, but I dont know exactly what or why.
@@promastersonly1419 Metallurgy my brotha. The most mind blowing thing I learned in physics was that a railroad rail bends when a bird lands on it; metal isn't completely solid. Oh and also the extension coupler itself is likely absorbing lots of impact.
@@promastersonly1419 Did you watch the video? Their high speed cameras showed the torsion. They also said electric impacts are higher RPM than air, so the bar cannot fully untwist, therefore the torque sticks end up tighter than intended. Is your extension name brand? Longer extension has more torsion ala Chevy truck torsion bar. Guess you also double the number of square joints so gain double the slop there. Torsion sticks don't very much in diameter to get a big difference in rated torque
I always tell her shorter is better. I'm going to link my partner to this video. Thanks!
I've been saying THAT for years! It's like a penis, only smaller!
