Vintage Bike Restoration 101: Tips for Beginners | How-To Choose Your First Steel Lugged Bike
Просмотров 8037 месяцев назад
In this video, we dive into the fascinating world of vintage bike restoration, focusing on the timeless charm of the '70s and '80s steel-lugged bikes. Whether you're a beginner or handy but looking to start your restoration skills, this video is packed with tips and advice to help you on your journey. We'll guide you through the essentials of choosing a complete restoration over a resto-mod, hi...
The mic sounds way more better than the rode wireless pro! God it looks great…I have the h1 h1n, the H2 and the h2n…sadly realizing I have not really a use for it.
Thanks for this review. I got ten years' use out of my H2n before it croaked last year. It made great recordings, but the unit was annoyingly flimsy. The plastic mic stand mount wore out quickly (glad to learn the new mount is metal!) and the input volume control wheel was unreadable in all but the brightest light. Looks like they've solved those problems. Your thorough run-through is much appreciated.
Great video with a good impression of the device, thank you! But you are mistaken, as @Ozpeter mentioned already, at 5:00 ruclips.net/video/dYI1-8nhCE8/видео.htmlsi=e9C0v9J7xYLAZsqB&t=300 : 32Bit Float has nothing to do with the Sampling Rate, these are the two independant dimensions of the signal. But yes, to get optimal quality, you should switch to 96 kHz.
thanks !
Thank you for that great video!
Thanks.
Yes, immersive nature of the rain and traffic when the all mics are on was clear. Good idea for a spatial audio project. Recording in a field of chirping crickets isn't available to me now. The H2e is a mid-side mic when the side mic (figure-8, I think) and just the front or back mic is on. It sounds like adding the other mic either enables some other technical ability (near ambisonic), or just the reverb/sound reflections from another side gives more dimensional information, we can hear the cars going by from left-to-right both in front of us and behind. Either way, I was really amazed. I recently got the Zoom MSH-6 mid-side mic capsule (on H8) and a VR-H3 (standalone 4-mic ambisonic array), and I've been looking for good experiences to record. Now I have another target. Thank you.
The reflection off my house was definitely affected the sound. It's unpleasantly strong when traffic drives by. This effect happens when recording instruments in a small studio or room in a more pleasant and less drastic way. But it definitely adds a subtle ambisonic sound.
Love that recording!! Total ear candy! 🍬 Ok .. just ordered one! This will be fun to use! Cheers ❤
Very nice review indeed. I have get this upgrade to my H2n, which I bought in about 2016. After a few knocks, it's got stuck in spatial which doesn't really bother me, because it sounds great. Simpler settings will allow me to keep my hair on.
Wonderful video! Thank you for the informative review.
Great review, thank you! Mine will be here in 2 days
Hope you enjoy it!
I like the backdrop canvas on your sound test, where did you get it? or is it on your editing software?
The motion graphic? I subscribe to Envato Elements. I was available to license and use there.
@@artoflife4569 thanks
Does it record audio from phone calls?
It does not have mix minus - if that is what you mean.
The device only records in 32 bit float. Sample rate is immaterial. Although it has 32 bit float a/d conversion, that won't help if the mics and / or preamps are overloaded and clipping. The device has a relatively low maximum level that it can handle, 120 dB SPL, so you might have to keep it at a safe distance from the symphonic brass. But there's only one way to find out and that is to try it! I hope you will be able to let us know how it goes in due course.
@@Ozpeter i’m waiting to see how it handles motorbikes, tuck tucks, gunfire and jet boats. I I I live in Asia and Idaho.
It would depend ofn the distance- all else being equal. But the dynamic range of your mic will likely be your weakest link when recording 32 bit.
I’m listening on B&O H9s and almost looked for traffic around 12 minutes. Good job.
I was only listening on my TV speakers and it's still insane
Thanks, but it wasn't me.The performance/value/size/ease ratio is exceptional. I can't wait to get it into an amphitheater- or at garage band gig!
@ Wow. Honest too. Mine has shipped. With a dead cat.. and the BT dongle. I’ve seen the predecessor in action. But the BT and post recording editing in the app will simplify my creative process. I am on the spectrum and switching between the different hats doesn’t work. Hopefully this will work with the GoPro. One way or another. I grew up 8Tracks and cords. What’s one more? You do good work and you got a subscription and a thumbs up. Thanks for the reply. And the honesty. The grind is appreciated.
How may I get in touch with you
What's up?
You are the best I was waiting for videos before purchase, definitely on my wishlist but this video will determine if I buy it or not, thanks so much for your review
The more I use this unit the more impressed I am with it. It is definitely the most handy and easy zoom recorder I've used for recording. It isn't as versatile as my H5, but it has much lower self noise. The plug-in makes adjusting the stereo image in post a breeze. Moreover, the H2e via USB has now replaced my much larger desktop microphone setup.
@@artoflife4569 Is there any way that you could send me a test for me to see if it work for my workflow? Algo I want to open a youtube channel, would you asisst me on the naming? Of course paid work
Very reasonable takes. I like that you stated your preferences and explained why you have them. I'm mostly interested in learning about different kinds of bikes from different cultures. For example I have two old Chinese bikes, and a 1942 Schwinn road bike. It's interesting to me how previous owners modified their bikes. One can do a Sherlock Holmes , making deductions about previous riders from clues on the bikes. I like seeing how different bikes ride - the 3-speed Raleighs vs an endurance bike from the 90s.
I love how bikes are an amazing tool for people around the world for decades now. People who use their bikes inevitably make modifications to suit their body and their needs. I imagine much can be inferred from such machines.
You did a good job and covered everything I would have mentioned. I got started with 70's model Schwinn's and stuck with them for almost all my bikes. My first restoration was a 70's Schwinn Continental, which got me hooked with restoring bikes. It gave me a huge sense of accomplishment. You asked if people repaint their as part of their restoration and for me personally, I like the rustic look of a bike that has small chips here and there. So I haven't repainted any of my restorations. I did buy a couple raleigh's, but I got frustrated with the cotter pins, just like you warned about. My last bike I restored recently was a Schwinn Volare 1977. This blew my mind at how cool it was to work on a high end bike with Renolds 531 tubing and Shimano Dura Ace components. Everything just felt so much more premium than previous bikes I had worked on. It's also been my daily driver since it makes me feel like flying. Having a steel frame bike at 23lb is amazing. It just feels so effortless riding this thing. Thanks again for you video!
Wow. Thanks for sharing your experiences! Once you get started, it's hard to stop. I appreciate the support. Now I'm going to look up 77 Volare!
Restoration or resto-mod depends on the use case. If you want to ride and enjoy the bike to the fullest, go resto-mod. Since you ride it, you will need to invest into new parts anyhow and you'll have a very unique, cool bike! If you mostly enjoy the build process, hunting for parts and want to have a bike to show and ride only once in a while, go full restoration. (Owning a '78 french Régina Sport converted to a gravel bike and a '72 Peugeot PR10, fully and period correct restored) Edit: Coming from a western European country, of course I'm in a better position to find exotic parts (french/italian/swiss BB's/headsets).
I somewhat agree. I'm editing a resto-mod video now. But I still think one's first bike rebuild should be a restoration. It doesn't have to be OEM specs. Then it can be customized as needed. But there is more knowledge needed in changing AND restoring an old bicycle. But once you do either one, you'll surely do the other.
I learned a lot thank you sir🫡
Glad to hear that. Rebuilding bikes is very rewarding.
