I don't know if we're supposed to feel bad for the Gur. In my play through, I was going good and spoke to the Gur with Astarion in the party and they blamed him for kidnapping everyone then told him it was his fault and had to fix it, even after they knew he had literally no choice in what he did.

I wouldn't want to be the Djinni when Astarion makes his way back to the circus. And I imagine that Tav isn't particularly happy, either.

I'm currently doing my second evil playthrough (my first was the dark urge, now just regular evil) and in neither of them I've brought myself to making Astarion part illithid, even though I did it to everyone else in the first one

I absolutely adored this scene. And the character development that comes with it. Rarely does Astarion want to go out of his way to help, but in this scene he's giving words of encouragement of of care for tav. It's why I ship him and resist durge so much!

The way that Astarion's eyes widen, pleading you not to submit and remain Bhaal's slave is so endearing. Your character and Astarion have struggled so much, but have been forged into stronger people, both individually and as partners.

Remember, everyone, that once they mindflyer is born, the person is dead and gone. The parasite is the baby, the adult that bursts forth is the creature. The person body and soul is dead.
