I never have to weigh my vegetables. It’s done at the register in most Dutch grocery stores. I never have to have a receipt to leave a store. There’s always an option to leave without buying something. Even at IKEA! It seems like the west of the Netherlands is a completely different world to my world in the east of the Netherlands (and the north where my dad lives). In the Netherlands we all pay with our debit cards. Credit cards we only use online, expensive items, parking or on vacation. Some people don’t even have a credit card.

You just need to make sure that you're not trying to make the clerks look like fools. If you're obviously purchasing things for private use but deduct them as business expense, just take the responsibility. When in doubt, you can always apply to the National Tax Information that is kind of "above" the Tax Office and ask them for an individual interpretation of you're case (either current or future plan related to business activity and income). You pay like 10 bucks for the application but the clerks are very friendly there and will really help you. Unfortunately, it's the bureaucracy that kills many small businesses in Poland.

Grocery-stores are huge but it's mainly big packages of much the same stuff and lots of non-food items. But only the food, I say Dutch groceries have a greater variety of items, hands down.
