Few of them figured it out later, and now do some exposure. One of the RS fellows I think is no longer with the living due to illness. Due to family shit being so f'd up, didn't spend much time around any of them. This cult screws everyone- some it screws double, especially as a kid. Blast from a past I'm glad to have been kicked out of over 20 years ago.

Mormonism and Roman Catholicism should also be exposed.

When I left the cult I was born into, the JWs weren't allowed to seek outside help such as life coaches and therapists. The elders pretended to be experts at that. Those quacks hurt so many vulnerable people. As Miranda's parents tried hard to keep her under their control, they hired a therapist and it backfired. They wanted her to feel weak and mentally unstable to trust the Botchtower's external guidance but the therapist taught her how to empower herself by trusting her gut and putting herself first. Watchtower's Kill, Death and Suicide themes are global culture that doesn't cause JWs to budge. What spineless dysfunction for a global society!

On my journey out of the JWs, I was a mess and wanted to fit in with "the world" fast. Not good for mental health. Lol During that time, I remember telling my therapist that I threw the baby out with the bath water and I shamed myself for doing that. My thoughts on this now, if you are leaving a cult, maybe there were some things that seemed to be beneficial when still in but at the same time, a cult is a cult is a cult and cults are controlling, harmful and unhealthy for anyone's autonomy and right to think for themselves. My thoughts on community and cultures....there have been sooo many things that have broken down the sense of community and deeply rooted cultures. Colonization, the Jesuits, Catholicism, wealth, greed, propaganda which has influenced capitalism, politics, our food supply and so much more. I personally believe if you want to truly influence change, you have to start with you and your family and your local community, then branch out from there. And the other way to influence change for the better is through education. Such as this conference. Those are all things that start healthy communities. I love your work Scott and all that you do. And all the efforts of everyone else trying to change the way we handle cults and movements that are harmful. Thank you!

There's so much in this, thank you Scott, really fascinating points. I've been out of the jdubs for 30 years now & I'm still piecing myself together. I was an angry atheist but gradually have gravitated toward spirituality but it's a minefield! Are you aware of the work of Joanna Kujath? I believe she is a New Zealander & ex jw. If you haven't already, she might be someone to connect with.... On community, I think a strong community is made up of empowered individuals, whereas a cult seeks to take your energy in every way it can. I haven't really been able to sucessful join any group or form one, as my cult detector radar is probably over developed!! As for government, since the lockdown era, more than ever I see them using the F.O.G method & am dismayed. Some people think Wim Hof is trying to be a cult leader but I actually think he's genuinely trying to get us all to discover our innate inner power. Kind of related to that & something else you mentioned about the lack of white culture - I was glad to hear you acknowledge the destruction of our 'tribal' roots way back. I read a book by Sigrid Undset, a Norwegian writer, I think called Lavransdatter (or something like it) which refers back to the time when the church systematically disconnected the Scandinavian people from the old ways. Sorry for the long message! I really appreciate the work you're doing. I'm respectful of any ex jw's stance on belief & get it but the missing element (from my point of view currently) is a spiritual connection to the universe & a discovery of our sovereignty. Having kooky beliefs and mistreating people go well together. Besides, JWs beliefs at their worst are far from kooky (e.g., blood refusal, shunning, marking, reproving, baptising kids). A dangerous religious group that lives to adorn itself in the language of “calm reason”.

I honed my judgemental skills at a really early age. That comes in handy every now and then, like when I hear of JWs doing really bad things, it’s great to be able to judge them without apology.

To keep the grift going; the things cult-leaders do: While living on your dime in 4-star conditions; they are telling you what to do; what is wrong with this picture? And by the way in this game of flip the coin, heads, cult-leaders win as they’re telling you what to do; tails, you lose because the zombie followers are paying the bills, not the cult-leaders! If the bill gets paid at all; since most of the zombies work for nothing in the long run they are bled quite dry; quite sad! And at the end of the day, the cult-leaders own the property to sell at their leisure as the believer zombies suck their thumbs waiting for new instructions from their cult-leaders God!

I know the shredding of documents was real. My Husband (EX) was an elder on the Service Committee. He told me they were told by headquarters to shred documents , and then the next time I was at the KH there were brothers in the back room with the door closed shredding, because one came out and I saw in the room for a second. And they didn’t clean all the shreds up

Great video! They allowed my jw sister with a 3 year old daughter to marry an older creepy JW man who we feel sure they already knew had been reported on as a child s molesterer to his niece. She eventually took her own life. He then abused the 3 year old, also s abused his own children and physical abuse to my sister. They disfellowshipped her for making the wise decision to flee. I wrote a poem about it. She's still mentally affected to this day over 35 years ago. Ruined her life and the children and he's still running around in the JW kingdom hall.
