Paper entitled "From Planned Obsolescence to the Circular Economy in the Smartphone Industry: an Evolution of Strategies Embodied in Product Features" presented at the 23rd International Conference on Engineering Design, held in Chalmers University of Technology in 2021.

The second part of the shape generation subsystem comprises parametric design models, used to encode the shape grammar in a CAD software. The goal of parametric design models is to assist the designer in the creation of customized variants from each shape grammar topological version.

The shape grammar is the formalism employed to encode the Thonet chair design style. The goal is twofold: 1) to explain the style as a design language; and 2) to enable new designs to be generated according to the established principles of the language.

The proposed model comprises the use of a generative design system and a production system supported by computer-aided design. It enables the characterization, exploration, evaluation and production of custom solutions within a predefined design language.

The goal of the PhD thesis, which proposes a model for mass customization in the furniture design industry, with the purpose of improving the patterns of collaboration between the disciplines of design and engineering during the realization of the design process, and in the definition of the production process.
