I think I would rather be secured to the smokestack not the man lift. You hear of manlifts failing/falling but I have never heard of s smoke stack fall unless intended to do so during demolition.

and you have to be sure to use good nuts and bolts, some are cheap metal and the heads tear off when you horse down on them which is no fun.
while you're up there, it looks like the smokestack could use a little painting - you can choose from many different colors you know. Some colors are considered more "fashionable", others more "traditional". Looks like it might benefit from some Rustoleum possibly. very nice.
