Linville Jailhouse Rescue
Saving Private Huber
(silly captions aside, thanks Bernie. I'm unsure what would've happened if you weren't with us. This is what hard whitewater can dish out. All that fancy stuff you see on Instagram is disconnected from the reality that this sport can kill you. Just remember: it's pretty damn hard to drown in a siphon if you just get out and portage. Stay safe out there folks.)

Rio Melcocho and Santo Domingo Kayaking | Colombia Whitewater
Просмотров 1,7 тыс.2 года назад
The Rio Melcocho, Santo Domingo, Verde, and Samana, provide an excellent 50 miles of steep creeking, epic class four, relaxing jungle paddling, and massive big water. This video was filmed on a day in which we paddled 20 miles on the Melcocho, Santo Domingo, Verde, and upper Samana. The whitewater in Colombia is mind-blowing!

Flooded Green River Narrows- 46"

With about 6" of rain the day before and Lake Summit spilling by about a foot the Green was incredibly juiced up. By our rough estimates, there were about 2000cfs of water compared to the standard 180cfs release. We walked from Boofers to just below Groove Tube. Some of the rapids looked runnable...maybe next time. Level: 20" on Big Hungry 46ish" on The Green Crew: Gibson Kafsky Cashion Porter-...

Thank you for sharing. We can all learn from such situations. It's good to see that you got out unharmed! That was a very nasty pin!
A few inches, forever turning layups into bottlenecks. Awesome safety 🎉
It's a nice day. I think I'll go for a swim. 😋
Good rescue, guys.
if you cannot handle the river DO NOT GO. PERIOD. this could have ended badly.
So hard to tell if it’s sped up or not
Glad you’re safe, good to have a great team with you. Cudos to your buddies for acting fast and decisive.
Stout asf
Glad you're okay. Holes like that can punch your ticket for sure and there's nothing that can be done. Solid work by the crew and all around. I want another braap now. I love some half slices but something about the regular braap spells party but I'm the dd.
UUURRRGHHHHHHHHHHH
3:11 Sums it up...if you dead you dead...but to everyone else its a Fiasco!
Outstanding rescue way to be there for your bro
You run class 5 long enough, this shit will happen to you or your partners.
where is Big Creek?, glad you made it
NC
Huh... when I was paddling class V+ I always knew if things went sideways I would swim aggressively to get out. Course I was generally the first one in the group to drop in. Guess you're what we used to call the "entertainment". Glad your ok. Looked like a small lapse in attention when you floated into that one, premature hooting -> trashing in the next ledge.
Well done. Fortunate to be able to walk that shelf/(riverbed?) and access the sieve and paddler. Unfamiliar with that run. Is that low flow? Thanks for sharing
it happens
dude that right ear dip brace early on with that wood on the right was also such a close call. that wood was in a bad spot. glad all good
Yep, 2 or so feet drift to the right and this would have been a pin video. Better to be lucky than good apparently.
Thanks for this interesting video! Great Kayaking... One question: would it be feasible to try to stick the paddle into the undercurrent to get pulled out of the hole?
Not when the surface currents back into the hole are that powerful and holding your boat that well. As a swimmer yes, you can sub under and find the downstream current. Still in a boat no.
I wish folks would stop running class V in half slices. Literally the only reason this swim occurred.
That’s not true lol, look at the video in slomo it would’ve happened in a full volume creeker also. He just didn’t T-up to it in time. Also halfslice boating forces you to become more aware. It all depends on your skill level and your gut feelings. Don’t make rules for people let them trust their own skills and team.
@@maxboice37 sure bud. I'm sure that 69 gallon, 10 year old rehash of a 30 year old design behaved exactly the same as a modern 90+ gallon creek boat would have. Whatever you need to tell yourself. Hope you don't find out the hard way.
Yikes.
holy shit bro almost died
Ohhh shit where was the line?
Tech asfffff
Great rescue guys, glad he is alright. What Liquidlogic is that? Do you think if he didn't half slicey kayak then he would have been ok?
That half slicey kayak is an Alpha 90. Big ol creeker and that stern probably saved him
WOW
Big Creek that flows into the Pigeon River, TN?
you were doing really well till that keeper. what is that feature you got stuck in and why? good job
The way that everyone handled that situation was impressive. I felt the stress watching it, but except stayed calm. Action was taken so quickly. You are the crew to have around. Glad everyone is ok.
Beater
Lucky schmucky. Hope you bought them boys a frosty beverage of their choice.
Should pick up the bill for the night!
One can hear the confusions, panics, differing approaches that come out in these very stressful moments. There's a lot to learn and review in there. No blame. Thankfully a success.
Super rescue, just a great job realizing that manhandling him out of boat would have broken his leg. Any significant deviation or delay in what was done could have been catastrophic. I have reached an age where, while I love runs like this, I consider the risk reward ratio very seriously. If you can't see the line, don't know the line, are winging it on a run like this, there can be consequences. You can be a bad ass boater ... and still one day be just enough offline to endanger yourself, and your team.
Great crew support!
😬
Legit
Everything worked out great Looks like yall picked a good day when the water wasn't too crazy
One to be proud of
Harsh
Holy shit....just,like that
I'm guessing the creek was a little high that day.
Good job
Holy Fuck is right!!!!! Great rescue guys. Jumped into action, got and kept his head out of the water, and then worked on the extraction. Would have loved to see HR data on the victim and two rescuers. If it went as I would think victim - Z5, Rescuer 1 - Z4, Rescuer 2 - Z3, as it should be. The harder the heart is pumping the less clear the thinking but the more your instincts are in full gear. Of course, both rescuers likely needed a few minutes post extraction to gather themselves because experience has taught me that after the 'fun stuff' is over is when the rescuer's system takes the biggest hit. Bravo to all three of you.
Solid. I would want these guys boating with me everywhere I went
