Hi! Thanks so much for taking a look at my first video on my VSG journey! Here are some stats: Highest weight: 370 Weight at first visit with doctor in July: 330 Weight on Nov. 1: 298
Hey Steve, hope all is going well with you. It's coming up on three months soon since we heard from you. Hope you have a great 4th of July weekend! Take care....hope to hear from you soon. - Mike
checkin in, how are you doing? 2mo silent ... :)
Steve, I guess you are "Ironman" , I had the Light Headiness, it was a fuel issue with me. no Head aches. Hang in there with the BP... it's important. 6lbs... your an animal.. Nice NSV.... enjoy the movies....Keep Posting Brother Blessings Mike Mac
Steve! Welcome back. To repeat what everyone else has said....great NSVs and hope you're back on track now. Keep us updated and enjoy the day. Peace. - Mike
Great NSV's! Well done Steve! D
Glad the iron infusions worked well! Loved hearing your NSV's. You're doing great :)
Thanks Jennifer!! They really did make a difference!!
Nice to see you Steve. Great NSV`s! I had to laugh when you were mentioning the hat, because I got my sister to measure my head at the beginning. She said ``Your crazy``. Glad they got the iron fixed. Enjoy your weather with your new body. Take care :))
Thanks Mary!! Ha! Yeah, they talk about the body shrinking and clothes hanging on us, but I never even gave the head another thought!! Just hope I don't lose what few good brain cells I have left in the process! Take care!!
Sounds like some great NSVs! I saw Noah too and liked it. Have a great week, Steve!
Thanks Pepper!! You're doing some great stuff also!! I've gotta try to work on those questions next!
Steve, Great update on the Bloodwork, You are an Ironman and will be infused with what empowering iron you need. I thought you guys in Texas just got Bigger Pickups to deal with city traffic. Hang in there, Thanks for sharing. Blessings Mike Mac
Ha! thanks Mike!! Yep, just got first infusion today and all went well. This just wasn't the ironman competition I had in mind! Ha! But all the other vital blood stats came in great so smooth sailing -- and weather -- ahead!!
Thank God that there is a type of infusion to get iron into your body. That way you won't always have to be trying to catch up but you will be caught up with your iron. I have heard of the iron infusion before and it seems like it would be boring 2 to 3 hours but Necessary adjustments.
Thanks Adam!! Yep, I hadn't heard of it before either. From what I've seen, it's more common with women to have an iron deficiency, but some guys also get it. All the other vitals turned up great, so my old co-morbidities are now flushed down the toilet!! Hope you are doing well with your recovery!!
Hey Steve....good to hear that your blood labs were great with the exception of the iron. I never heard of iron infusion until now. I didn't know that an iron shot would not solve the problem or taking iron pills for that matter. Perhaps your body, for one reason or another, can't absorb iron as readily, the normal way. I guess an IV is what you need. Good luck with that though.... Oh, and speaking of SA traffic....I hate it! Everyday there are a dozen accidents all over this city and forget about getting anywhere on time...or in a reasonable amount of time, if some f$ckin idiot has an accident. I get impatient fairly easily when it comes to driving. I get pissed off big time... LOL. AnyHOO....good luck to you Steve.....let us know how it all turns out as far as your iron IV goes. - Mike
Thanks Austin!! Had my first of two treatments this morning. Wasn't bad at all. Can't wait that that "jolt" to kick in and give me a little extra energy. Want to take it to the gym and take this stuff to the next level soon!! Loving this S.A. weather today. At least I didn't get blown over!!
Darn that San Antonio Traffic!!! I sometimes wonder where they learned to drive....... Way to go on kicking Diabetes and High Cholesterols butt!!!!! Fantastic job!!!! Keep up the good work. :-)
Thanks Catherine!! Went to another doc this morning in the smooth, spring break-reduced traffic and the numbers were much lower!
The good news is when I went in for my follow-up, my iron levels were good. So no more infusions :)
Thanks Jennifer! I hope that after I'm done with the infusion(s), that it will bring my iron levels back to a normal number. Hope you are doing better also!
Hi Steve! I had to have iron infusions too. Not fun :( I had to have them every other day for 2 weeks. Each session lated about 20 mibutes, so it sounds like they'll be giving you more at one time. It was a very bad experience for me mostly because of my small veins. Hopefully that won't be an issue for you and it will all be smooth sailing :). Here is my video about my last infusion It doesn't always feel good - VSG WLS
Steve good words, "i got myself into this over time and it will take time to get out" I needed that. Great Job. Vote early and often... Keep on Keeping on!! Mike Mac
Thanks for the encouragement Mike!! Sounds like you've seen Texas politics in action!! Ha!!
You are doing great, Steve! You might have to hit the Salvation Army store or a Goodwill to find some new shirts.
Thanks Pepper!! That sounds like a great idea!! I'll bet there's something in there that will tide me over for a little while!! You're doing fantastic yourself!!
Welcome back Steve! I was beginning to wonder what happened to you. I was going to have to put out a Texas size APB out on you dude. LOL. AnyHOO...glad to hear everything is back on track, that you're losing, and all is going well. Keep us posted on your progress. I'll make my goal next week (I'm 174.5 now, goal is 173 lbs) and I'll put out a video then. Take care. - Mike
Thanks Austin! It's good to be back! That's great news!! I always look forward to your "creative" videos!! Have my 3-month visit a week early next week because doc is on spring break. So I'll report back after that. Take care!!
doing good there steeve! thanks for checking in.
Steve so great to see another person from BMI of Texas on here......Thank you for sharing your journey and I look forward to following you to success. My surgery is tomorrow!!!! I can not wait. WISH ME LUCK!!!!
Sounds like you've had some great NSV's. I was also worried about that 3 werk stall. I don't think anyone wants to see a stall after having wls. The good news is it passes :)
Great video! I'm in the middle of pre-op stuff for insurance myself, so I'm busy watching everyone's videos. Love your positive attitude, thank you for your post, stay warm! :)
I totally agree with u on the eating part. I have no issues with anything either! Pretty crazy! U will break this stall just give it a couple days hang in there ur doing awesome!!! Hugs!!!
I thought exactly the same as you about stomach capacity for the first couple of weeks when your on purée foods, "surely I've got a dude sleeve?" It changes once you start on firmer foods and my stomach capacity seems to have decreased as it has healed. You've hit some great NSV's already too. The clothes thing is one of the best parts for me, nothing like fitting into smaller and smaller sizes, wedding rings included. Your going really well Steve, I look forward to your next update!
My advice is to have 6 small "meals" a day...one about every 2-3 hours. 4-6 oz of protein, etc. Eat to the point of just feeling full. If you don't feel full, stop anyway. Keep track of what you're eating. Write it down. Stay in 600- 1000 calories a day. Stay towards the 600 side if you really didn't exercise that day. I average 750 a day. Your weight loss will improve Steve but get that 80 grams of protein in and walk walk walk. Best of luck to you buddy.....have a great day. - Mike
Good advice Austin!! I need to try to adhere to that regime. I think it might be better for me instead of just relying on the 30 gram protein drinks from Sam's. They are good, but I need to get those small meals spaced out over the day to avoid any hunger pains (phantom or otherwise!). Really appreciate the support!!
like you said, it's a common slowdown period especially if you switch food stages at the same time ... I didn't notice it myself because i just didn't weight myself often early out. sounds like you are doing well just the same. protein water exercise! :)
Thanks Pete!! I know its about getting down to the basics and sticking with them. Haven't veered off course, just feel like spinning wheels. But today, out of nowhere, was down 2 pounds. So patience will be a virtue with me! Take care!!
Congrats on getting through your first week. I completely agree about the Chicken broth. I'm on full liquids now until the 10th of January. So I've been enjoying applesauce, and cream of wheat, and pureed oatmeal. Can't wait to start the Pureed/Blenderized stage. Hope you are having another good week and Happy New Year.
Thanks so much Jamie!! Wow!! I'm on the full liquids and didn't know about cream of wheat or applesauce. Seeing the dietician today and will try to get that stuff approved for me also!
You look awesome compared to your prior videos! Congrats on your decision to make this journey. I went through the same thing in Houston on 12/16 and I am down 20 since my procedure and 38 since October. I am also documenting my journey as well if you care to follow. Your story and progress seems very similar to mine. Where did you have your procedure? Good luck...
Thanks Brock!! Had my procedure done by Dr. Michael Seger at BMI of Texas in San Antonio. They've taken good care of me so far. I will be following you on your journey as well. The first couple of weeks can be tricky!! I look forward to getting back to a good low-carb diet of SOLID food!! Ha! Take care.
Steve, Your doing great! Thanks for sharing your journey. Take care
even without the water, 9 lbs is pretty fantastic! sounds like you are doing great with the right mindset to get you far. :)
Thanks Pete! Yep, this is the first time I have really, truly been committed long-term. It was tough to get in that mindset, but the results are motivating me to stay there!
Fantastic job Steve....you're right on track and doing things quite well! There's always one incision that's the most "painful" and annoying and that's the one where they removing the stomach through and stitched up extra strong. In my case it was on my right side, mid-way. It was the last to heal and still feels weird sometimes when I touch it. Perhaps that's the one you're referring too. AnyHOO, glad to see all's going well with you. Have a Happy New Year! -Mike
Thanks Mike!! I guessed that must be what it was. Watch out for stray Longhorns and Ducks this weekend in town!! Happy New Year!!
Steve, your awesome, and doing great. I understand and the wife feeling bad eating in front of you. All the gals in the office i worked in stopped eating at their desks the whole 2 weeks i did preop. I told them they didn't have to but they felt it was the one way they could show support, so i accepted it and appreciated it. You take care.
Thanks Adam!! Good advice. Have a Happy New Year!!
You're looking great. Keep up the great work!
Thanks so much!!
Great first week!!! You look good and great energy! Congrats on everything!
Thanks!! It's good to be on this side of the fence!!
Great loss for the first week, Steve!! So glad to see you doing so well. Have a great week! :)
Thanks Pepper!! Have a Happy New Year!!
Well done buddy! Can't wait to see your progress! Wishing you a speedy recovery. :D Take it easy! :)
Congrats glad you're doing well!
Its all down hill from here. You can do it!
Steve, this is great news! My advice, when you get home, and you get tired, sleep all you want brother! prolly going to have to sleep in a chair for a week or so, but it isn't too bad and feels quite cozy knowing your stomach aint hurting. I wish you the best of luck, and may God bless your recovery.
Hi Adam!! Thanks for the good thoughts!! You are right... Spent the first night in bed, but was miserable trying to get out of it several times during the night. I think tonight I will try out the La-Z-Boy. It worked pretty well during the day for napping! This evening had a scratchy cough after drinking some water. Guess something in the throat must have been bumped during the surgery. It's a pesky cough. Thank goodness for the restrictor wrap, right now. It has come in handy.
Congratulations on making it to the loser's bench. So happy for you!!!! :)
grats steve! glad all went well!
Happy re-Birthday Steve! Glad to hear all went well and you're officially a loser like the rest of us. Rest and recuperate and see you here soon. -Mike
Thanks Austin!! Hoping that after a semi-smooth hospital stay, I won't have too many problems during the recoup process. Was there anything that messed with you during the first couple of days? Got a pesky scratchy throat right now. Hopefully that will pass.
ibelieveinsteve I'll admit Steve, I was lucky I guess. I had no nausea, no dizziness, little to no gas, and little to no pain right after surgery and beyond. The only thing that did bother me was the day after surgery I walked slightly over a mile all at once on the large ward at SAMMC and over did it to the point that I had pain from the largest incision (where they removed the stomach). That's it. I just slowed it down from there, initially. I'm sure you'll have no issues from now on... :-) -Mike
Looking great. Welcome to the other side my friend....
Thanks AJ!! Now all I need is time!! Got out of the hospital about 9 pounds heavier, but just a day and half later, already lost about 7 of those. So, just have to be patient. It's definitely great to be on this side of the solution!! After last night in bed, think I'm going to try the recliner tonight!!
Looking great!!! I'm sooo happy for you!!!!
Thanks Tina Marie!! I wish you continued success on your journey!!
Good Luck on the 17th. =-) you are doing great. your video had a lot of questions and answers that may help a lot of people along there journey.
Great video. Good questions. Are u going there kaiser cause ur stuff sounds similar to mine. I'm excited for u. My surgery is 2 days after u. I am getting nervous. Wishing u the best of luck!!! Please subscribe to me if u wanna follow along :)
Hi! Thanks for the kind words!! No, not a Kaiser in San Antonio, going through Methodist system hospital. Humana required a Center of Excellence for the surgery. Yep, the anxiety does rise as the day draws near, but work helps the days pass pretty quick. But it's almost been an obsession of the mind the past 7 months as I have pursued it. Almost every waking hour, there is some thought about it and what will happen after the surgery. Am I ready to give up pizzas? I think so! Ha! Having the surgery with the hope of eliminating the daily meds for diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, thyroid, to name a few things, definitely outweigh the desire for pizza or burgers!!
Hey Steve, very good update! All those questions you posed were questions that my surgeon and his staff covered as well. They were very thorough on providing answers to all aspects of the surgery, pre and post...and beyond. Sounds like you're ready to go. I wish you the best and look forward to seeing you in your post surgery vids! -Mike
Thanks, Mike!!! I appreciate all the encouraging words. I hope your journey has been everything you've been hoping for, thus far!! Can't wait to cross over to the other side!!
Hi Steve! My surgery is scheduled for Dec 17, 2013. I'm feeling just the same as you. Good to know I'm not alone. Yesterday was my first liquid diet day. I really thought about canceling the surgery. Hoping today is better. Best of luck to you!
Looking forward to following your journey, Steve! Like you, I'm anxious to find out if the cravings really do go away. Fingers crossed for both of us!
Hi Steve - I look forward to watching your journey! Exciting, yes! Scary, a little - but it will be oh so worth it :-)
Thanks Kirk!! Enjoy your videos, especially your recent "conference" videos with the gang! Yep, it's getting closer, so I guess the nerves will start messing with the head a little. But I'm ready and have come too far to not take advantage of this special tool!
Happy Thanksgiving Steve! Great to hear you're doing well this week. We've all had those times where we ask ourselves if this is the right thing to do. You just have to ignore that little voice and KNOW it's a life changing event which will help in bringing about a healthier and happier YOU. Hang in there..... it'll all work out out. -Mike
Thanks Mike!! I appreciate the positive feedback!! I know it's the right move, just waiting for the clock to keep ticking!! Ha!
