    I have a question if anyone can answer So the drain hose on the back, does that go on the side ports at the back or on the middle hole with the plug? I’ve noticed mine doesn’t drip any water out, I followed the book instructions which said to put the hose on one of the side ports.

    • @kingprone7846
      @kingprone7846 4 дня назад

      The unit autodrains via the right sided port on the back. there is a gromitted port in the middle too. I was a bit confused because in the old manual the explanation was kind of vague and did not make sense. In the v1.2 manual it's somewhat clearer but still vague. The unit cools via self evaporation technology and uses condensing water to add to cooling (and reduce poweruse i presume). If the weather is extremely humid then the evaporative tank may fill up too quicky and rather than autodrain it the machine requires manual drainage via the middle port and will display "FL" error. This has not happened to me despite it being humid here in summer so I am not sure how humid it actually has to be for this to occur and how many hours it would take. I also still feel that the manual doesnt really make sense with regards to this but who knows. Im just gonna presume here that people think Darwin or Cairns are bad but southeast asia makes their weather feel dry in comparison.

    Thanks for the video, I was interested in buying this model, so you showing it installed has been very helpful. Can I suggest that you install an awning over that back window. The heat gain from sun directly hitting glass can be shockingly powerful. It is common for a an awning that shades large windows to drop a rooms temperature by 10°c in summer. It may even be more effective than the aircon! Architecture mate of mine has convinced me that awnings are the most underrated (& cheapest) feature for improving temperature.

    DO NOT BUY! Terrible. I bought one and when the compressor kicks in there's a big "thunk" that's loud enough to wake you up. Then it starts shaking and making a rattling sound. I presumed there was a fault with it and they sent me another one. The second unit does exactly the same thing except with the second unit the temperature sensor doesn't work so it will suddenly decide it's 10 degrees celcius and will stop cooling because I've got the unit set to cool to 22 degrees. And on top of that the second unit also won't go into wifi mode so it can't be connected to the app. I've just asked for a refund this time and they've already started in with the "first we have to assess the unit and if we don't find fault you'll have to pay us to assess it" etc. And don't try and blame the installation like they do. The frame in the window does not move at all. I know what I'm doing. It's not hard to install. If you want to hear the noise they make when the compressor kicks in here is a video - and just at the very end you'll hear a thunk when the compressor stops. This is the same thunk it makes when the compressor starts so all day/night you'll hear "thunk......... rattle, rattle, rattle........ thunk". And again - both units they have sent me do this. Admittedly the second one does not rattle as much but the compressor thunk is still there with the second one plus it has the temperature sensor and wifi fault. Good luck if you buy one. Maybe I got unlucky twice in a row? I'm not risking a third. ruclips.net/user/shortsB9_DwLQJhxg

      I was thinking of buying the smaller unit but then I thought I'd get the larger unit you have, until I saw your video that is. I've always had issues with Kogan items. What I find frustrating is dealing with them or trying to contact them to get things fixed or get a refund, but for way less expensive stuff. It's like they don't want to hear any complaints so they make things as difficult as possible, rather than just ringing a hotline to speak to an actual person. I'm pretty handy around the house, but what scares me is that this item is an expensive purchase, and how hard it would be to deal with them for any issues that arise with the unit, and how they might try and blame it on the installer (as you mentioned) Anyway, how did things go? Did they try and blame you for the installation or did you get a refund?

    • @craigo1702
      @craigo1702 4 дня назад

      @@dendennis3053 I only just today got a refund for the second one. Apparently the Teco ones aren't much better. Looks like I'll just run with a good quality portable unit as whilst the vertical window units are a good idea and look good they are just very poorly made and all of them are incredible loud and shake. I'm done with vertical window air cons and I'm done with all Kogan products. too. I'd rather make or but a stand and put a portable one on a stand in front of the window and only need to run very short hoses. That wouldn't take up much more space then the vertical window units and would be basically int the same position. Anyway - that's my new plane. For around a grand I'm fairly sure I'll get a much larger capacity reverse cycle wifi enabled portable unit.

    • @kingprone7846
      @kingprone7846 4 дня назад

      yap, its fucking annoying but its only there for a few seconds. the fix is to set the fanspeed to 1 and then temp to i.e. 16C. If you need more cooling then maybe set the fanspeed to 2. That way the unit will just keep spinning the compressor at a low rate to supply thefan but will never switch itself off which is causing the "thunk". If its only ~22-23C outside and not massively humid after it reached plateau cooling its actually very similar volume to a split system. The thunk just comes from the initial intertia of the compressor starting to work and is a very annoying design flaw. There really should be a night/sleep mode where it just gently spins the compressor.

    • @craigo1702
      @craigo1702 4 дня назад

      @@kingprone7846 That's no fix. I"ve had two of them. Both useless. The noise is ludicrous and constant and whenever the compressor kicks it the huge thunk is insane. The only reason I'm replying to your comment is in case anyone reads it and thinks - "Oh so it's not too bad, I'll buy one." Because it is bad. It's beyond bad. These things shouldn't even be sold it's so bad. Even the repair company that Kogan were going to send just told me there's no fix and they are terrible and they won't even bother looking at it. They'll juts pick up both units that I've had and send them back to Kogan. That's a repair company agreeing with everything I've said about them. If you can put up with it then fair enough but anyone else reading this believe me, there is no chance of stopping the thunk of the compressor or of making the unit any quieter than a Boeing 747 nor of sleeping and if you do buy one make sure you're TV operates at a decent volume or you won't hear that over it either.

    • @kingprone7846
      @kingprone7846 4 дня назад

      @@craigo1702 i mean the thunk certainly isnt any worse than a normal window unit coming on. And as i said because this unit has a variable rate compressor the fix it to just let the compressor never switch itself off which you achieve by using a low fanspeed and low temperature. Its definetly not as loud as an airplane. I have posted the db values below measured with a db meter and the unit was around 63db right in front of it but it is quieter once the room is cold.

    Do the flaps on the frame go inwards or outwards? They are a bit wave-like instead of perfectly flat so what's the best way to achieve a good seal? Do you stick the foam bits to the seal where there are gaps. It is pretty simple to install as long as you're strong enough to lift it into place but these technical aspects aren't obvious to everyone. The video is helpful but if you've got the knack of it then that sort of detail may aid someone less confident. When I've had portable air conditioners I've always wondered if getting it level with a window and limiting the length of the exhaust pipe or giving it a more direct path to the outdoor space for this aspect of ventilation might help in rooms that are difficult to cool because the pipe bit gives off so much heat itself and the PAC can run hot which is simply emitting heat into your room.

I would imagine that with the correct power adapter plug you could use it in the US. www.auselectronicsdirect.com.au/usa-earthed-travel-adapter-with-2-usb-charge-ports?gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwx-CyBhAqEiwAeOcTdXMlIHHXz0TxlRcRELej8mmfQGIBH_3PoadCaHk7C4og6iIKlUd3hhoCohYQAvD_BwE

      No 220-240v, 50hz only (you need an Australian plug and at least a 2000W Step Up Transformer converter from your 120v US to 240 volts for the unit)

      It runs on 240V and uses Australian plug so you would need an adapter. In the United States and Canada, the electrical power supplied to most homes is a split-phase system. That power enters your home at about 240 volts. This 240 volts is split at the main circuit breaker panel into two 120 volt halves, called phases. Make sure you can use 240V.

      I had a window type before and I found the Kogan vertical one to be quieter and it worked just as well

      You’d have to ask Kogan that themselves

      its on the kogan website but if you only wanna cool a bedroom at night you can get the smallest unit. this is way oversized.

    I'm also keen to buy this AC, but my window openning width is 55.5cm. but the website photo says it's 60cm. however, the width of the unit is 41.5cm. do you think it fits in 55cm? from your video the fram doesn't look 7cm wide on the sides.

      If you have a look at the manual it states the minimum width should be more than 46cm, so you should have plenty of room with 55cm.
