Moab, Utah bike path ride-a-long | Gravel Bike | Slow TV | Moab, Utah, USA

Heading up north to Moab, UT, USA. About a 5.5 hour drive from Flagstaff, but basically the first city in that direction! Sorry about the squeak noises in the video, it turned out to be dust in the seat post. I had big climbing gravel race the next day, BIghorn Gravel in Colorado, so I was just taking it easy and didn't have time to diagnose the noise.

Bighorn Gravel 50 2024 | Gypsum, Colorado | Gravel Race onboard video | no commentary!

In a break from my usual, this video does have cuts. I did this because I wanted to gather examples from different points in the course, and keep the video in 4k60fps (massively drains battery). I also muted the audio in sections to keep the vibes positive and keep private conversations private. It's an awesome race and I hope this video helps people thinking about doing it in the coming years ...

Climbing Mt. Elden on a Gravel Bike | Flagstaff, Arizona | Late October - Uncut (Slow TV)
Просмотров 98Год назад
Let's climb (and descend) Mt. Elden on a gravel bike on a windy late October day! Uncut, except for when I need to change my battery and check my phone. My contact kept lifting up on my eye on the way down, so taking things slow on the decent. Gravel bike with 40mm tires. Temperature around 58F (14C).

    Good job. What is the average tire width and tread for this BWR?

      For this race I used 45mm Maxxis Rambler (medium tread) in the front and a 40mm Maxxis Ravenger (big tread) in the back. If I race it again, depending on the course, I'll use 50mm up from and 45mm in the back. Other people used MTBs with big tires all the way to some people on cyclocross bikes with skinny tires. There certainly was no one right tire choice.

    Nice trail sir. What’s this trail called?

      I believe the official name is the "Moab Canyon Pathway". The video shows most of this pathway, but there is more paved pathway that takes you to/from the more central area of the city.

    Omg, we had that problem too! My friend went off the course for a good two miles.

      Defiantly understandable! I had two full stop-and-thinks deciding which way to go during the race. Saw at least two arrows that were pointing the wrong way!

      The course was a blast! Coming back up through the last dirt section at the end did me in.

    Is that normal for the trees to be bare?

    • @FlagstaffslowTV
      @FlagstaffslowTV Год назад

      At the base of the climb the bare pines are mostly from the 2019 Museum Fire. Closer to the summit, the bare pines are from the 1977 Radio Fire. The Radio Fire is why Mt. Elden is bare today. The neighboring TV Hill summit is covered in pines because the Radio Fire didn't reach there. I'll ride to TV Hill in another video. Throughout the ride you'll see bare trees with white trunks. These are Aspen and they're deciduous! They lost their leaves a week or two before this ride (mid-October). I'll be filming this route in each season, so the deciduous tree cover will look very different depending.
