Here’s an explaination as to why MNL48 had a difficult time getting support during the early days of their career: - the Filipino public is a different type of crowd to please, in most ways, demanding. - during the last 2 decades or more, it has been a common knowledge that if you join a singing contest here, if you don’t belt the high notes, you have a slim chance to win. - back to this idol entertainment system, it’s bad enough that a group of 16 or more girls would sport kawaii dresses instead of KPop or western style attire, they also sing in basic vocals without showcasing power vocals which could end up getting snubbed since if they claim to be a singing group in the Philippines, they have to have powerful vocals and can slay the high notes left and right. - the latter above mentioned reason is NOT the group’s fault. They do revised versions of the main group’s (AKB48) hitsongs which are sang in basic regular vocal ranges. They are given a very small opportunity to have an original one. (I so so so LOVE LOVE LOVE their song “Hash Love.” They still deserve more supporters now (2022) as they are very talented and unique among the 48G’s. What do I mean by this? - Sheki - the group’s vocal core and whistling diva, quite a good rapper too. - Colleen - the main soprano blender of the group (she really shone in this performance) - Brei, Belle (graduated now sadly), & Abby - the melody stabilizers in this performance - Lara (not in this performance) - the beatbox diva of the group (and Jamie’s hair protegè) - again Abby - the best dancer in the group IMO (but I’ll be thankful if you would correct me.) as well as the visual core, truly deserving the position of center girl.
