I am not sure I understand the point of this presentation. M.C. like quilts. Likes colors. It is fun to find connections. Here is her collection and observations like "you can see crosshatch" "you can see feather" I guess I needed more concrete examples of what was learned. It was as if she was saying "Pennsylvania German Quilters used only a set routine of colors" but if you want to know more go read a book.
FYI: The first 5 1/2 minutes is quite garbled. I don't know if anything can be done about that.
So fascinating! Bertha was an extraordinary quilter/ sculptor. Years ahead of her time. Your quest for honoring her memory by tracking down these quilts is admirable. I hope you will be successful. Can’t wait to buy your book!
Looks like a good place to meet women.
Agreed! It was totally finding my people!
Thank you for this excellent and informative conversation.
King David. 1 Kings 8:13 I have surely built You an exalted house, And a place for You to dwell in forever.”
Such a fascinating story! Can't wait to hear/read more about what happens! Mary's excitement is contagious. I really appreciated her transparency, and how you can see her passion for this project so clearly in every expression on her face! Congratulations on her scholarship in Texas, I'm sure she'll do a great job! I used to love her show called "Quilty" 😊
'Promosm' 🎊
Great presentation! Thanks so much and great to see you both!
So technically, this coverlet is broderie perse?
Yes, it is completely cutout chintz applique which is the current phrase people use for broderie perse. Broderie perse translates to Persian embroidery, and it isn't Persian or embroidery.
I first met Bets at the 1985 AQSG Seminar. She subsequently became a dear friend. Today is her 100th Birthday and she is still going strong! Happy Birthday Bets!
So informative and interesting! Beautiful quilts!
Thank you ladies for sharing these beautiful quilts. I enjoyed this so much !
Think something might be wrong with the video quality? Could be me.
Video quality not good. It could be my phone.
Thank you Ladies for a very interesting venue topic on Civil War Quilts. Pam I discovered your book as a result of my joining a Civil War Club in Bedford Pa formed by Mary Koval. We are discussing Civil War Women and doing a block exchange of BBrackmans block Southern Cross I think.
In communications with Mary Erckenbrack's (the ceramic artist) nephew - he has indicated that his aunt Mary is not the designer of the Old Glory quilt or the Golden West quilt - but another Mary.
So enjoyed this! Makes me want to make a potholder quilt!
I love these “quilt chats” so much. Such great information.
So hard to listen to, so many "um"s. Will try again, love the info.
Great learning experience! Thanks for this opportunity!
Love the history and knowledge you all share. These videos are so interesting. Thank you so much. One day I hope to make it to the museum.
In discussing the Hembree quilt of Nearer, My God, to Thee, you mentioned that she left out letters and didn't bother to correct them. However, if you will go back to the original hymn by Sarah Adams you will find that she also left out those letters in words like heaven (heav'n) and even (e'en), so Emma is merely copying what is in her hymnbook.
I so enjoyed this interview. I have always found Bets to be so welcoming both when she still went to Seminar as well as her travels to Marion, In.to Quilter’ s Hall of Fame. Thank you both for doing the video! Looking forward to more of these.
Thank you! This was very enlightening and something that helped me understand that I need to stick with my membership.
Thank you, Bets, for sharing your historical experiences as an AQSG founding member!
I absolutely love these quilt studies! It reminds me to take more care in labeling my own quilts, and also start a quilting journal!
I have a few tops that I want to have quilted and finished!
I did that on my quilting road trip in July 2018!
Just found this channel! Subscribed! I’m so excited!!

This was a wonderful podcast! Thank you so much for sharing the information from Susa's quilt. Fascinating!
So very special! Hard to believe that a family member sold it. Thank you for sharing!
I love this!
This is so lovely, flies, dogs and all!! Thank you!
Different program but really loved.can’t wait for next one.Marsha kng
Thank you for a very informative presentation.

Excellent presentation Xenia, thank you for your considerable efforts.
Thank you, Xenia.
Thank you AQSG and Xenia!
Thank you so much.. treasures all of them!
Was there supposed to be audio? Anyway, I loved it. You don't typically see quilts like these. Gave me some improv inspiration!
Learned quite a great deal - thank you, Sue! What really struck me is how everyone came together to support the war effort which I had known, but in today’s climate it just made me wonder if it would happen now.
Thank you for this presentation, Sue! As always, I learn so much about quilt history from you. Well done!
Awesome presentation, thanks!
Great video, so interesting! Thank you.
Excellent presentation ! This adds to the understanding of various dye methods ... and maker's choices. It gives us yet another thing to ponder in our scholarly study of vintage quilts. Lovely examples. Thorough yet concise--a perfect 'snack'. Thank You!
What a great idea, thank you!👏👏👏👏
This little snack was so satisfying. Than you for the "blue" information.
